I LOVE my Breville Sous Chef food processor
I LOVE my Breville Sous Chef food processor! I have used the small bowl to pulse onions, which turned out beautifully. Not mushy at all, just nicely chopped onions. I was careful not to over chop them so I did have a few longer pieces in the bowl, but I could not believe my eyes when I saw the results. I have also finely sliced a pound of fresh Brussels sprouts using the slicing blade, and they turned out perfectly. It zipped through them in only a few seconds. I never would have attempted this kind of chopping before, so it's opened up possibilities for more vegetables and many new recipes in my cooking repertoire. I really like that you can adjust the thickness of the slices so easily. What a great feature! I shredded an entire block of cheese using the shredding blade. It was a snap! I love, love, love it and I look forward to using it instead of wondering why I bothered to buy a food processor, as I did with my previous units. I'd use them and put them in the cabinet and forget I had them until I needed to make pie crust. Those days are gone! I have my beauty sitting on my counter so I can have quick access. The one downside to the Sous Chef is that it is quite tall. I have to remove the food pusher so that it can clear the bottom of the 18" space between counter and cabinet bottom. Despite that, I still give it five stars. Wonderful product.

This is an amazing appliance!
This thing is incredible. Comparison to others: This is actually the third food processor I have owned. The first 2 were “the other major brand” and they were ok. Not too bad. The second one was getting to the point where the bowl started needing to be replaced so I thought I'd explore other options. To give you some idea, I had probably used the previous one I had maybe every other week on average. It did ok but with some things the motor would not be too peppy (it would drag). It was a 14 cup I believe. I saw this one and was thinking about it for a while. I've got a Breville microwave that I love, and a Breville espresso maker that is also pretty excellent. This one seemed to have more features even though it was a bit more money, I cook a lot so I thought what the heck. I LOVE IT!!! It is so much more versatile with the different blades (and I haven't even used the variable slicer yet!) and it is build so solid. This thing just chews through cheese like nothing. I've had it now a month and a half and have used it 4 times more frequently than I used the “the other major brand”. Ok I confess the reason is probably the french fry cutter which does a really nice job (see the picture) but wow it does great with biscuit dough (I usually just mix the liquid in by hand to be safe), I've shredded all kinds of cheese with it, both hard and soft. It is super powerful, I can power through like 10 potatoes in about a minute cutting french fries. The bowl is huge and it comes with a mini-bowl. I have yet to use the salad dressing feature but I'm sure I will. The recipe book is actually useful (there's only one other appliance I use the recipe book for and that is the Phillips pasta maker, usually I just throw away the book). I *love* the organization of the blades in the container. That in and of itself is worth at least 50 bucks worth of upgrade not having to search all over for the blades and stems. It does take up space so keep that in mind if you're tight on space, but the organization just makes me so happy. It's even labelled! The outside of the unit is super easy to clean (it doesn't seem to have a bunch of nooks and crannies like my “the other major brand” did so it's an easy wipe down). I actually think the bowl is easier to clean as well because the chute is a single opening (unlike the “the other major brand” that has the double opening which has to be taken apart). A general note about cleaning on food processors...I have run the bowls through the dishwasher but I've found in general if you don't, the parts will last much longer. Granted you can probably get new parts but overall I've found that is a losing proposition because something will break/wear out the day of some huge party you're having and you'll end up chopping a bunch of stuff by hand when you're in a big rush for time. Cleaning up a food processor in general is just a pain in the rear, there's not much way of getting around it. It is very tall and doesn't fit under your average upper cabinet. It's not really a problem for me because I store most of my appliances in shelves but it's something to mention (because gosh I do use it a lot). But in all honesty just leaving the base on the counter doesn't look too bad because it's pretty sharp. So if you're on the fence, get yourself one, a bag of potatoes, and some delicious duck fat, and go to town. YUM. Edited to add: I have used the variable slicer and it works fantastically well, very impressive. Did paper-thin celery and no issues with the strings dragging. Perfect. I also used it to slice ginger root very thin for pickled ginger and it worked beautifully (see picture) Edited to add: I bought the add on dicing unit (along with the extra small and extra large dicing disks) and it works amazingly well. Makes a beautiful chopped salad and salsa, I really enjoy using it. Can't wait for my tomatoes to come in this summer so I can make a ton of salsa!

Beyond thrilled
I have had this food processor for about a week now and I am over the moon with how amazing this thing is. I originally had a great food processor, a Kitchenaid that was about 8 years old. I gave it to a friend when I purchased a new Cuisinart food processor with a spiralizer...it turned out to be a piece of garbage that had really cheap parts so it was back to looking for another food processor. My research showed that a lot of the food processors today are made much lighter weight and are made out of less sturdy material. I was not happy with that as they break easily and can sometimes slide around if they're off balance. I was hesitant to spend this much money on a food processor, especially with the varied ratings on Amazon and a few other sites. The good: Right out of the package, you could tell the device was solid. It was heavy, sturdy, and even the plastic bowl was higher quality than the previous ones I had purchased. I am in love with the slicing disc - you can see the difference in thickness of slices. It's great! I can slice incredibly thin or really thick, which is amazing for various dishes and dehydrating! The slices are consistently the same size, no leftover piece thumping around in there after it has sliced the majority of the veggie or fruit. My previous food processors would leave a chunk of food that it would not slice or grate. The sound. This thing is insanely quiet. I did not think there was such a thing as a quiet food processor but this is it. I was not looking for this feature but it's nice. It DOES make noise, just much quieter than the others I've had. I can continue to listen to the audio book or carry a conversation without yelling while using the machine. It's fast. I mean, really fast. Not that all food processors are not efficient but this will slice through the food much quicker than the previous ones I've had. I like the timer. If I need to blend, whisk, or kneed something for a certain amount of time, I can set it. It also tells you how long you've been blending. I like having the option of a large or small bowl but this is not a unique feature to this machine. They do create a leak proof environment so if you want to make something liquid in the top and then move on to chopping something solid in the bottom, you can do that without any issues. The bowls are pretty sturdy. I have not seen gaps that trap food or water that lead to mold/mildew growing. Will update if I find any. The parts to the chute stay in place without any weird twisting to get parts to lock. I love this as my last one was hard to lock the parts together and the small chute would always fall out and thus broke. The small chute can serve as a small measuring cup as well! I really like the storage for the blades. My first one did not have this and it was always tricky to find a place to store them that would be safe and not result in finely sliced finger tips. The variety of discs is also quite nice. The fry blade does thin strips of fries. I have used both of the s blades and they work wonderfully. I have not used the other blades/discs as of yet. There is a brush included to make clean up easy as the device is not dishwasher friendly. The Cons: Size - this is a large device and would not have worked in past apartments where size is a constraint. Be sure to measure before buying! I'm glad I now have a place large enough to store the food processor and attachment box. I would say the price but I have a feeling long term, this device will pay for itself. I did worry about the price and justifying the cost. However, we use the food processor all the time, hoping this will hold up to years of use. Washing - not recommended to put in the dishwasher. This isn't a huge problem, I just hate washing dishes by hand when you have a dishwasher available. However, it's very easy to clean and there is a brush included. There are no other cons as of right now. Other thoughts: I might have to buy the dicing add on as this food processor is amazing to use and would love more control over diced veggies.

A good product with great customer service
Not only does my Breville food processor work perfectly but I had to contact customer service because a part failed and they provided excellent service. I very small part in the lid failed about 7 months after I purchased this processor. I emailed customer service and they responded immediately. Once I sent them a picture of the failed part so they could ascertain what needed to be replaced they wrote up an order and got the part sent as soon as it was in stock. They really stood behind their warranty and I appreciate that!

BUY IT!
Where have you been all my life??? I have had other brands of food processors, so did some research, for it was time to switch. This was always rated as top of the line, and many reviews said that most cooks don’t need to spend the money on this, buy the next one down.. Well, if you like to cook, BUY THIS. it is worth twice what I spent for it. It has good solid parts, metal where it is needed. Strong shafts. It shreds parmagane as if it were butter. It does a beautiful job of thin slicing vegetables, very thin, if that is what one wants. Let me tell you, I am in love

A Five Star Food processor
Purchased this unit after me 32 year old Cuisinart finally expired. I cook every day and have consulted casual and fine dining restaurants over the years. This has been to date only surpassed by the $1,900.00 commercial restaurant processor. Pluses: 1.Size. The large bowl can handle up to 16 cups and the smaller bowl insert is fantastic for spice mixtures and sauces. 2. Ease of removing contents: The blades and spindles fit over the base spindle, so the blades are removed from the top rather than either digging them out or having them fall out with the contents. Very easy to dispense the product. 3. Ease of cleaning: Super easy to clean after use...just rinse in hot water and wipe. 4. Accessory Bin: While it is large, it is attractive and way better than a bunch of loose discs and blades. Power: Minced four pounds of chicken breast in four very brief pulses! All the power you will need. 5. Liquids: Unlike the old Cuisinart, this has a seal to hold liquids and the spindle center keeps liquids in the bowl (very big deal). 6.Feed tube size: There are two feed tube sizes (the large will accept a medium baking potato as an instance) Minuses: 1. May be larger than you want if you have a small kitchen (I am blessed to have a very large on with tons of counter) 2. French fry disc cutter. I require fries to be 1/2 inch minimum and the cutter is 1/4 inch.

Beast mode
I purchased this to replace a much smaller, inexpensive food processor and I am very happy with the decision. Pricey, sure, but this one works much better than what I had before. I've just begun to explore the possibilities, but in the 4 months I've owned it I've made perfect extra creamy peanut butter (tip: helps to warm up the nuts in the oven first), pizza dough, french fries, pasta dough, sliced some fruit and veggies, grated a 2 lb. block of cheese in a snap, and what really impressed my, I was able to make perfect cracker sized slices of cheese using the adjustable slicing blade. They don't really tell you it can slice cheese in any of the manuals, and didn't see much about it in reviews, but I tried it out with some Tillamook Medium Cheddar and it worked like a dream. I cut it down to roughly 1.5 X 3 inch wide block and before I could say "it worked" I had a pile of perfect slices, and none stuck to the top of the cutting disc like I used to get with my other machine. I don't feel like the dough blade is as effective as it could be - but I had great success with just the standard blade. And I read that you could use the whipping disk for milkshakes ... that was a fail, but not enough of a fail to take off a star. All in all, very happy with this purchase.

It's AWESOME!
I bought a cheaper food processor (Oster) and returned it. SO GLAD I DID. This thing is amazing. Makes great nice cream (frozen bananas only, please try them) and also makes great vegan brownies (walnuts, dates, almond butter and cocoa) with no trouble whatsoever. It's great looking and easy to clean. Love it!

Glad I Finally Purchased This Monster
I researched this food processor for weeks and for many weeks I attempted to convince myself I could live with something cheaper. In the end I found this great seller who was offering the Breville for a little less then the $400 asking price and decided I couldn't get anything else. I purchased it and have been in awe of it ever since it arrived. My Breville 16 Cup Monster arrived 3 days ago and yes It is a BOSS. I love this thing. It is a Monster a mighty Beast. Today I used it to make breakfast hash browns in the morning and made up a real nice pie crust for some Epic Apple Pie in the afternoon. 1. I love the way it fits together (feels real solid). 2. This thing seems to weigh as much as a small car. 3. You have to wash it by hand every time you use it because the Breville is not dishwasher safe. In fact it has no respect for your dishwasher. 4. It comes with a handy storage box for all its accessories. 5. I have lots of stuff in the kitchen that requires special treatment and care (ie. cast iron cookware, Staud Cocottes, wood cutting boars etc.) so having one more thing I have to clean a certain way is no big deal for me. I believe the best times are spent in the kitchen creating tasty homemade dishes. This EPIC Food Processor is just one more tool in helping to facilitate my hobby. Oh Yeah and it makes my Full Size stand mixer look like a tiny can opener (by comparison).

A great kitchen helper that is well designed and engineered.
Like some of you, I get a little carried away in researching before buying. This was my first Breville purchase, and I'm going to buy Breville again based on an excellent product experience. Solid (and heavy) product with a number of well thought out touches to make it easy to use, easy to clean and easy to store. I appreciate that the storage box can stand on its side to take up less counter space. it's unbelievably quick, never seems taxed, and the smaller bowl option is convenient along with the large food chute. The emulsion wheel has an imprint stating that it's not dishwasher-safe. Other than that one, the bowls, the discs, the cover and the plunger go into the dishwasher daily on the top rack. Everything seals smoothly sofar. Tonight I made whipped cream using the emulsion wheel (and stevia instead of sugar) to put over organic strawberries, also cut by the Breville. I learned from my first mashed potato-turned-soup experience a few days before... not to then 'turn cream into butter'. Use the Pulse only when first getting started. It seems lightning fast, and it is. For those trying to decide between 12 and 16 cup versions, the 16 cup product is akin to preferring, as I do, a 8 cup pyrex measuring when I only usually need 2 cups in a recipe. It provides a lot more options for bulk food and holiday prep - and is always 'right there'. The 16 cup Breville is used almost every day and does very well with both small and large quantities. The smaller bowl will stay in the cabinet until a job too small for the 16 cup is experienced.
