absolutely good for 4+. My daughter loves to do this!! she is 4 and half years old. Attached my daughter's work of cutting and pasting

My four-year-old makes me pull this activity book and scissors out at least twice a day, only to get frustrated and break down once he realizes he does not yet have the fine motor skills to operate the scissors efficiently. However, he's so engaged with the book that he won't just put it away. He instead requests that I "help" him, which translates to me ending up doing all the activities. So, overall, this is a nifty little book to help kids develop their scissor skills, and it includes really cute, high-quality pictures. My child just isn't interested in it yet, but he wants all the pages cut out anyway, so we'll probably have to purchase another one once he is able to better operate the scissors and realizes he has nothing left to cut... I can also see this being a useful tool in my classroom with students who need additional fine motor development!

Holy thank you Amazon Reviews and Questions for putting my mind at ease!! I was looking for toddler scissors for my 2 year old but I was hesitant about introducing a new "toy" that could potentially be used for hair cutting of her nearly non existent hair. This scissors is ALL plastic and no metal blade!!! My husband looked at this thing and gave me the "what you paid $8 for plastic scissors, it won't cut" look.... and to his surprise, CUTTTT and it even made the noise that a normal scissors would make when cutting- AND it was a sharp straight cut! BOOM, win for mom!! The kiddo has to work to open it with one hand, but she's slowly getting the hang of it and guess what... it works for left or right handed kiddos because mine is still working out the kinks on which hand she wants to use, both ways cut nicely! The pages are a little thicker and are colorful and fun with lots of different things to cut, changing directions, different shapes and it's perfect for the beginner. Melissa and Doug brand, we are huge fans!!

Awesome book for little ones! My daughter is 3 and has expressed interest in trying to use scissors. The scissors that come in this activity book are made out of plastic and have no real blade which is both good and bad. Kids can’t get hurt, but they also can’t cut as well as with real scissors, only adding to the their frustration. The activities themselves start off easy and get more complicated as you go along. My advice is to make copies of all the pages so you can reprint certain activities if they need the practice. My daughter went through the book fairly fast and now she’s stuck on some harder pages and gets a little frustrated when she can’t cut on the lines. Overall, still a great way to teach kids about how to safely use scissors.

I was bummed when I opened this and saw that the scissors didn't even have a metal edge... and then I USED THEM on the paper and was pleasantly surprised at how well they cut! We have a set of regular pre-K scissors that do have a metal edge and these are definitely easier to use with this workbook. I love how colorful and modern the pages are! What we like to do is have my daughter cut everything out, and then I give her construction paper and a glue stick and have her put it all back together how ever she wants to. REALLY great scissor skills book!

This is a beautiful, well-done cutting book. The pages are so pretty that we have kept several of them to use to make greeting cards to mail to family and friends. I love the variety of shapes that my 3 year old son is expected to cut around. I am very pleased with this cutting book. I actually did not know that the scissors came with the book, and I was surprised that my son was very interested in these. I had just "upgraded" him to his very own (round tipped) metal scissors made for children, while he had previously had similar plastic ones. I am not sure if it was the glitter in these scissors or just because they were new and different, but my son definitely enjoyed using these.

Size: She is a tiny two year old and although the scissors are slightly big I think it's fine and she will grow into it. We work on scissor skills daily because she thinks it's a blast. She doesn't care too much to cut on the lines and follow the book just yet so we are mostly just using the scissors and cutting magazines. Sharpness: The scissors will not cut skin (or would be very hard to). You literally have to hold it perfectly perpendicular to the paper to get it to cut. Great product. Great for toddlers with supervision! Workbook: The workbook is great! starts with basic lines and then moves into shapes. I would say the workbook will be used more when she turns 3. Quality: Overall impressive with the quality and value. Great gift to give to someone as well.

I bought this for my 2.75 year old to play with on vacation. She's a smart little thing and very curious. She loved using the scissors to cut along the lines. I had to help with as she is not old enough to do it on her own, but she really enjoyed it and it was a fun activity for the two of us. It did frustrate her some since her hands are a bit too small for the scissors, but it was a mostly fun learning exercise. The scissors don't have a blade so I wasn't concerned with her cutting herself or anything else besides paper. She could also play with the cut outs when she was finished (assuming they weren't cut too terribly which did happen to some of the more complicated sheets). I don't think she would have enjoyed it any earlier than 2.75, so I'd recommend it for that age and older.

I think this is a super cute activity book. I got this knowing that for my kiddo, I was going to be having to do hand over hand for pretty much all of it because of where he's at developmentally. What I think is cool about this is that the items cut from the pages can be turned into other things once they are cut out, like matching games or puzzles. I have seen other cutting activity books when my daughter was younger that didn't have that kind of double use. The plastic scissors included with our set also do cut paper well, which isn't always the case with the plastic ones. For us, having these come with a plastic set of scissors was a real selling point, because of the nature of our son's disabilities it's not really safe to work with him on these skills using a metal pair. I also think the pages in the book do a good job of progressing in terms of cutting difficulty. However, for kiddos who have more difficulties with fine motor, this book alone isn't going to be enough practice for each type of line to be cut to progress to one page after another in this. In our household with our little man, this is going to be a skill that is going to take much more time to progress, and this certainly isn't something he enjoys doing or using because it feels so difficult for him. So I've based my review on how useful or enjoyable I think this item would be to a more typically developing child.

I am amazed at how well the scissors in this set work! I figured that bc they are plastic their abilities would be limited. But that is not the case. My 3 year old twins have been wanting to learn how to cut with scissors but obviously adult scissors would be a bad tool to learn with. So I ordered 2 of these sets and i couldn't be happier. Each set comes with about 20 pages of pictures (trains, foods, faces etc) that have dotted lines on them so my kids can cut along the lines and make puzzle type pieces out of them. The scissors are higher quality than I realized they would be. They work really well yet are safe for toddlers to use. I am very happy with this set and recommend it to anyone wanting a fun way to teach kiddos how to use scissors! Oh and if you keep the pieces in little baggies you will have homemade puzzles to play with:-)
