It seems like it would be hard to break this thing
This can opener is definitely more reliable than any other can opener I've had. It seems like it would be hard to break this thing. I get tons of old expired canned goods to feed my pigs so I am not particularly gentle on this can opener, since it's located in a shed in my yard. Sometimes the cans are frozen, or I have a ton of food in boxes, etc and things get knocked around (which led to the death of my last 2 can openers, which were the industrial electric kind), but this can opener handles it all. It's a simple design, so it's hard to break it. My kind of instrument.

Made in the USA!
If you're looking for a heavy duty 'manual' opener that will last years THIS IS THE ONE! I got tired of the cheap foreign made electric openers and finally decided to quit wasting my money! This will no doubt be the last opener you buy, especially if all you do is household cooking, etc. and it is definitely worth the money!!! It is big enough to easily open gallon cans continually and small enough to open a can of tuna if you want. My Wife is 5' 1" and she uses this just fine! Edlund makes an electric opener as well if the manual opener is not for you, if I were going to buy another electric opener it would be from them, Amazon sells them too. This opener has parts which are all replaceable if anything should ever need replacing and the company has been in business for years and years so you won't have a problem finding them! My family has one of the original model Edlund openers which they still use and it's older than I am!

Wow
I had a different model and was very happy with it but then got rid of the table it was attached to and decided to get a new can opener and thought I was buying the same one but this one is so much better, it’s smoother and much stronger, this is so easy to use, it’s smooth and cuts through cans like butter! It is also easier to clean than the last one I had. I’m super happy with it!! I would definitely recommend this!

A wrist-saver, and great for large families
[Update: after using it more than two years, it's still going strong. We've not had to sharpen or replace the blade. All I've done to maintain it is add a little oil a couple of times a year to keep it turning easy. Wipe it down after you use it (especially if can contents slosh out), and it will stay in great shape for years.] Well, if you're reading this review after browsing to the Edlund #1 Commercial Can Opener (with base), then I'll assume you fall into one of three categories: you're involved in food service somewhere (e.g., restaurant, soup kitchen), you have a large family that uses a lot of institutional sized (10#) cans, or you are wondering if something like this might work for someone with arthritis. I find myself in the latter two categories. This opener brought to an end our practice of buying and wearing out traditional, hand-held can openers. We're a big family and open a lot of institutional sized cans. I have no complaints. This opener can handle them all--even little tuna cans. Since we're not a restaurant, our biggest issue was deciding where to mount the base plate. We opted for a corner of one of our countertops in the area with the least foot traffic. Mounting the base plate required drilling holes through the countertop, then installing machine screws and nuts (provided). If we want the extra counter space (e.g., when hosting), the opener can be removed from the bracked and stored in a drawer or cabinet. Turning the crank sure beats trying to turn those little handles on the hand-held openers we've used all these years. My wife has recently been diagnosed with osteoarthritis in her fingers (sadly so, because she is so young), so this is a real hand-saver for her.

Great buy on Edlund 12100 Old Reliable #2 can opener
Ordered the can opener to replace an old one at a non-profit organization that feeds the needy. It is working great and we hope it continues to do so.

Wonderful Product
Like most Americans, we are tired of buying products that don't work or a product that doesn't last! My wife and I have purchased numerous electric and held-hand can openers, most once wearing a proud American name and heritage, but these days, they are stamped-out in China;compared to the older products openers for the most part are pure grade 'A' junk.... I wanted to 'invest in a great product'.... My wife and I cook a lot for our church meals, guy's monthly meetings and the lady's also have their monthly get together.... Sometimes, we easily open a dozen cans at a time... This Edlund,(USA Made),does the job very quickly... The way I figure why spend $40.00 for junk and get a year perhaps two from the Chinese openers? Yes, the Edlund cost about three times that amount but for home use it is there for a life-time. The blade on the Edlund is estimated to last up-to 25,000 cans. And if it does wear out, for about $10.00 you can buy another one and with a simple screwdriver you are back in business. Great Product, Reasonable Price and Fast Shipping... One would make a wonderful gift for a birthday or Christmas for the family that cooks.... Thanks Edlund and Amazon we really like our product....

Aptly named.
Great quality can opener for a commercial kitchen. If you have to rely on a can opener don't buy a knock off, get one of these.

Awesome can opener
This is great especially if you are older or a female with small hands. Ever struggle trying to get a can opened ? No more with this baby. Just set the can, bring the opener down on it and turn handle. No fuss at all. Probably the hardest thing with this is finding a good spot to install the bracket. The main opener component can easily be removed and stored in a drawer or washed in the sink.

Best opener
You cannot go wrong getting and using this. A lifelong product always dependable. Would not use anything else, we tried everything else! This is by far the most excellent

Works great on #10 cans
Works great on #10 cans. Our church used it in our fund raising booth this year. We opened about 50 or 60 #10 cans of chili every night for a week and it held up great. Be sure to clean the blade off when it gets food on it. And don't forget to lift the handle up to release the can!
