Let me first say I am not getting compensated in any way for this review. I am writing this because I had such a hard time deciding what to by because of all the mixed reviews for the various brands. I hope this will help some parents with their decision. I currently have 4 different sets of magnet tile toys: - 32 piece set Shape Mags (Purchased Dec 2016) - 2 Shape Mags 12X12 stabilizers .(Purchased March 2017) - 100 + 18 piece set Playmags .(Purchased March 2017) - 8 piece polygons Magna-Tiles .(Purchased March 2017) Our first set was the 32 piece Shape Mags. I put it on the kids' (ages 4 and 2) Christmas wish list. They loved it! Even after 3 months, they still loved playing with it, when most other Christmas presents were forgotten. The only problem was the 32 piece set is too small for 2 kids to share. After lots of research, I decided to buy the other 3 sets at the same time. Playmags had mixed reviews so I opened the set and examined the pieces before showing them to the kids. They were great! The plastic is sturdy and the magnets are strong. Maybe they fixed the problems that got them the negative reviews. Price Playmags 100 piece set + 18 click-ins (not magnetic) sells for $69.99 Shape Mags 120 piece set, including 16 fences and 2 people figures sells for $69.99 Magna-Tiles 100 piece set sells for $119.99 Magnet Strength Playmags, wins, hands down. One of the reviews said the magnets are too strong and caused pinching. Even my 2-year-old didn't have any problems with that. Magna-Tiles and Shape Mags have similar magnet strengths. Both are fine for building tall structures. Playmags just hold together better. Color Playmags and Shape Mags have the same vibrant colors. Magna-Tiles colors are a bit muted. I prefer the more vibrant colors, but it's just my opinion. Compatibility The sets mix and fit together perfectly. Conclusion 1st place: Playmags The price is comparable to Shape Mags. The magnets are stronger, which makes for sturdier structures. I prefer the more vibrant colors. 2nd place: Shape Mags The magnets are not as strong, but still strong enough to make whatever your child imagines. The stabilizers are a great addition. I highly recommend them to complete any set. If you really want the originals and you're willing to pay the extra $50 for a set of 100 pieces, then by all means, buy the Magna-Tiles. Other than that, I see no reason to pay more. Shape Mags are of the same quality and magnet strength. Playmags' magnets are significantly stronger. I plan to keep all 4 sets. If I buy another set for a gift, I would buy Playmags.

Update...I am 9 magnet sets deep! These are so much fun!! My 5 year old daughter loves these! Great toy for parents to play with.....and with the kids if you want to share :) Sustained play...unlike so many other toys she plays with for 5 minutes then rolls to something else. Allows her to be creative and helps her understand gravity, weight...how different shapes can work together...how to build a solid foundation, etc. She is so proud of herself when she makes some crazy looking structures that don't fall :) A great toy for mixing in with other toys...we build houses for her shopkins to play in, amusement parks for animals, and play hide and seek with those toys inside different magnet "homes". It is her go-to toy...and when someone asks her what her favorite toy is she always says "magnets". Hours and hours of enjoyment.

I had heard of these magnetic building blocks but the price tag is a little hefty so I did some research before I bought a set. After reading about 1,000 product reviews I decided on playmags as the consensus seems to be that they are the best made and best priced of the 3 competing brands. I am not dissapointed!! These are wonderful! My kids are lego experts so it takes a lot for a building set to impress them but these have left them blown away. All of the different shapes make it to where we can build on angles that aren't possible with traditional building blocks. And being magnetic has them hold shapes to where we can build slopes, which has entertained us for hours upon hours since the moment we opened the box. It's amazing to watch my 3 1/2 year old twins figure out geometry right before my eyes but that's exactly what happens as they piece together octagons and cubes and cones. I have been able to teach them more geometric design concepts with these than with any other learning tool I've purchased. I thought my husband would complain about the price but I can't keep him away from these blocks, either! He spends the evenings in my boys' room, building castles and chattering away with them about all the different shapes they are creating. These blocks make for true family entertainment and in this time of iPad/tablet obsession it's so nice to be interacting together as a family and using something that doesn't need a cord. These are worth every penny.

We have three children that have fallen in love with this toy over the years. They get it out daily to build castles, cars, houses, and other things to incorporate into their play with their lego creations. I truly feel that this is the best toy that we bought for our children as I have been able to watch their creativity flourish, while they learned to work together with each other. We have one child that has some developmental and physical struggles, who plays with the tiles daily. He first started out making towers, sorting them by color or shape, and now he is building castles, houses, boxes, teepees, cars.... I love watching him sit down to build with the magnetic tiles, as it is helping him to have fun while strengthening his fine motor skills at the same time. This is even a toy for all ages, even parents to get down on the floor to play with the kids at the same time. I love that the toys are durable, easy to clean, do not need any batteries and they unleash unlimited possibilities from our imagination. The only negative thing that I can think of is that the kids end up fighting over them sometimes, but that just proves that they all love playing with the same toy together. Every year we buy more magnetic tiles for the boys to be able to build more amazing things together.

We have 3 different brands for a total of 5x 100+ piece sets. I thought a comparative right up would be helpful for anyone looking to buy a set, and having a hard time deciding. We have 3 boys, ages 7, 4 & 4. 3-4 sets is what they need to be able to build big structures and not fight over pieces. Magnatiles: Pros: Super expensive, quality is great, but the magnets sometimes clash Cons: $$$$$$ Playmags: Pros: Half the cost of the Magnatiles, super durable, works with all sets, strong magnets, and the quality is great, Great value for the price-point Cons: When you buy a 118+ piece set, there are a lot of those letter pieces + inserts (18) that are included in the count, which really means the kids are getting fewer magnetic pieces Children's Hub - Pros: Lots of pieces, good price point Cons: Super thin pieces, I can already see that pieces have cracked and the kids are bound to break more. Magnets are nowhere near as strong. I don't think it was worth it. I would rather 3-4 sets of the Playmags, and buy a few larger support pieces/sets - and the kids will be thrilled. UPDATE: we received a newer set from children’s hub to try out, in response I believe to this post. They told me that they updated them and would like for us to try them out. Kids say: they’re great, they love how many pieces they got with the set. The tiles are still thinner in the center that the Magnatiles and Playmag’s, but they have held up to some rough play. The magnets are ok, but I still find that they don’t always stick as well to the other tiles. Maybe they’re not meant to be combined?!? In any event, we appreciate trying the newer set - and I definitely think take buying this set is worth it. At the $50 price point, you can’t go wrong. Buy 2 sets... they should hold up for normal play. BUT, they are definitely not Magnatiles and are not the same quality.

My kids (3 and 5) got a set of Magna-Tiles for Christmas last year and have been playing so much with them that I wanted to expand their set. I bought the Playmags set because I read reviews that they were completely compatible with the Magna-Tiles. They are definitely perfectly compatible and provide identical performance. I like the extras included with this set -- the click-ins, the small rectangle shapes, the windows. My kids don't seem to care about the letters, but they love building with these! My favorite things about this Playmags set: - hours of open-ended imaginative play - appeals to all ages, 2 through adult - easy to share and play cooperatively - opportunities for education at preschool level (shapes, colors, sorting, patterning, etc.) - comes with an idea booklet (this especially appeals to my 5yo daughter) - magnetic strength equal to Magna-Tiles - compatible with Magna-Tiles - significantly lower price than Magna-Tiles and other popular brands of magnetic tiles - wider variety of shapes than other brands - plenty in this one set for play without needing an expansion

Since there aren't very many reviews for these Playmags I am going to write one. I usually never do reviews...however, I had a hard time deciding whether or not to purchase these and wished that there were more reviews...so hopefully this is helpful to someone! We have a set of Magnatiles that my son loves so when I saw these Playmags for much cheaper than Magnatiles I was very interested. However, I was hesitant to buy them because I didn't know how they compare to the Magnatiles (I didn't want to waste money I could have put towards another set of Magnatiles). I decided to go ahead and take the risk of buying them because I really like the variety of shapes, pieces, and colors Playmags offer. I bought the Delux Building Set of 100 plus the Add on Accessory set of 50 (4 cars, 16 fences, & 30 squares). I found them for a combined total of $124 plus free shipping on another website. Now that the tiles are here and we have had a chance to play with them and compare them I am very pleased with the purchase. Similarities Between Playmags and Magnatiles: -magnet strength is comparable -sets are compatible and interchangeable -durability seems comparable (time will tell...but so far they seem the same) Differences Between Playmags & Magnatiles: -Magnatiles have a small metal rivet in each corner of the tile (Playmags do not) -colors are different (I actually like the variety of the Playmag colors better) -Playmags offer a more diverse variety of shapes and building pieces -Playmags are much cheaper Overall I would buy these Playmags again. My son loves them just as much as the Magnatiles (if not more because of the fence, car, and window pieces). It also helps that I bought 150 pieces of Playmags for just a little over what a set of 100 Magnatiles would cost.

We bought these for my daughter's children, ages 1, 3, 6 and 8. They already had a set of 100 piece Magna Tile and they love playing with this stuff so much, we thought to supplement the set they already play with. We were a little unsure about mating PlayMags with Magna Tiles, but the value was so much better here that we took a chance. No reason to worry, now they have over two hundred pieces that fit together well and with three kids playing with it sometimes at the same time, no shortage of pieces.

I got these because my two kids (7 and 4) are always arguing over their 100-piece set of magna-tiles. I didn't want to pay for another set because they're so expensive, but really wanted to get them more magnetic tiles that that would still be strong and fun to use. This definitely exceeded my expectations. My kids love these playmags and said they like them as much as the magna-tiles. I also like that you get lots of pieces and there are some interesting ones, like letter tiles and window click-ins. The letters are double-sided, with two different letters on each side, so the words you can make are slightly limited, but it's still lots of fun and my kids enjoyed using them anyway. Overall I'm really happy with this purchase and would get another set in the future to add to their collection.

I have a set of these and a set of the 100 count magnatiles. The magnets in these (with the new stronger magnets) are definitely stronger than the more expensive brand. The colors are a little brighter as well. If you already have a set of the magnatiles, these are compatible. If you're comparing- these are a wonderful set to start with. They come with some extra window tiles as well as some hollow squares. This set also has small rectangles and a car/train magnet base. There could be more of the extra tiles, but I'm not 100% sure. I'm sure the description includes that information, but I just wanted to give an honest review and a basic comparison. The magnatiles come with just the basic squares, three types of triangles, and large squares. As I said previously, the playmags set has a bit more selection with some extra shapes. If you don't have the extra shapes, you won't miss them, and I don't know how much the extra shapes ADD to the experience, but they certainly don't detract from it. That said, I'm 30 and really just making fun geometric towers. A child might be tying to make a house with windows, or they might really appreciate the wagon magnet piece. To me, it's neat and I'll use it sometimes, but I wouldn't have noticed if it wasn't in the set. I have a 10 month old daughter for whom these were actually purchased, but really her primary source of joy with the tiles is knocking down any stucture that I or my husband have built. I expect that will change with time. Anyhow, if I was starting new without having already bought the magnatiles set, I would probably save the extra money and buy the playmags set, knowing what I know now. The appeal for me is how much stronger the magnets are. I will say that the tiles in the magnatiles are stronger than our other set (a random set from target, I believe, that someone had gifted us because they wanted us to see how cool magnetic toys were.) I enjoy this toy and the concept behind it. I bought my daughter two 100 Count sets already (one set of the magnatiles and one set of the playmags) and I will probably slowly add to our collection as time goes on. I will likely buy the playmags brand over the magnatiles brand because of both the cost and the strength of the magnet. I also just purchased a set for my niece's 5th birthday (I purchased the playmags) so my sister And her family can have as much fun as we have here. I intend on buying my other niece (her older sister) a set in August for her 7th birthday as well. I'm a true fan of these tiles, and I'm really excited about my daughter growing up with a toy that encourages foresight and imagination. I know She already enjoys destroying our structures, so I'm sure she'll enjoy building her own. (And I'll enjoy revenge-knocking them down.)
