I hate bass. These are magnificent.
I was pretty bummed when I had to replace my old Altec Lansing speakers. In their defense, they were 15 years old before they started just dying. But what I hated about those speakers was the obnoxious amount of BASS pouring out of them all the time. I can't stand bass, it hurts my ears and drowns out the beauty of the music. A little bit of bass, fine; obnoxious booming through three stories? Get that out of here, it's ugly. So I bought these because there's a bass control ("tone") right on the side of the right speaker. And a headphone jack, which is a serious PLUS because I constantly have to switch between headphones and not. And the price was way right. When I took them out of the box I was a little skeptical, because there is *no* subwoofer. None. Just two speakers to plug into my computer. This could either be a sign of total crap, or my bass-free dream come true. It's the latter, people. Totally the latter. I love these speakers *so* much. The bass is nice and low, I can talk to people in voice chat while my husband tries to sleep upstairs without him texting me that he can hear everyone's voice. I can listen to music without shaking the house. And, most importantly, MY EARS DON'T HURT! Getchoo some Logitech bliss.

Good speakers; not quite as good as the comparable speakers they're replacing.
CURRENT REVIEW (5 STARS): FIve stars(different pair). Purchased another pair of these two years later to replace the old Altec Lansings I like, but which are no longer available, and find that I like them better than I did two years ago (I'm using the first pair I purchased in a vacation apartment). Verdict on the new ones: the sound quality is quite good for the size and price--better than I remembered, in fact. This model features a treble-bass dial on the side of the right speaker, but I don't notice much increase in the bass either way. The only problem I have with them is that they don't get very loud even when the volume control is turned all the way up: to get a room-filling sound, even in a small room, you have to turn the computer volume all the way up as well. On the other hand, I don't hear any distortion at high volume, which is definitely an improvement over the pair I bought two years ago. Bottom line: I don't expect a huge sound from computer speakers at this price. These do exactly what they're designed to do, and do it pretty well. Five stars for good quality at a good price. REVIEW FROM 2 YEARS AGO (4 STARS): I had a set of Altec Lansing VS2620 desktop speakers, purchased about 28 months ago, that I liked a lot (small footprint, very full sound for the size with a good bass and not too much distortion at high volume; good value). However, occasionally I was getting brief blank spots, and since there wasn't anything wrong with the laptop they're plugged into and the connections weren't loose, I thought maybe a wire was misfiring inside. Rather than take them apart and try to repair them, I decided to look for a replacement. Since that model was no longer available on Amazon, I decided to get the Logitech Z200s, which seemed similar, and did some testing when they arrived, using classical vocal and instrumental recordings, white noise (a dishwasher), some film scores, and a rock classic to compare them. I played all three sound sources--the speakers, my laptop, and my music software--at the highest volume. The Logitech Z200 speakers are comparable in size, footprint, and quality to the Altec Lansings; bass quality and high-volume distortion are about the same. The bass on the Logitech is a little better than the Altec Lansings when the "tone" button is tuned all the way to the "+" end; the "-" end gives a slightly muffled sound. The acid test was how each of them sounded with an old, poor-quality live-concert recording of "C.C. Rider," which is so imbalanced that I can hardly make out the vocals on my iPhone headset until the very end. Both reproduced the vocals earlier and better than the speakers on my laptop (which isn't saying much), but I concluded that, overall, the sound quality on the old Altec Lansings is superior: fuller, more resonant, and better balanced, even though the bass isn't louder. I debated returning my new Logitech speakers, but they're pretty good, especially for the price, so I've decided to keep them, but will continue to use the Altec Lansings as long as I can.

Excellent speakers for a small home office and for mounting on a monitor stand
Really like these speakers. The range and response is good for movies, music, and video games in my small home office. I went with this 10W powered version over the USB version and was not disappointed. I also chose this speaker for it's good looks, and planned to mount it next to the monitors on my dual display to clear the desktop. This worked out great--please see the photos. I used a piece of aluminum angle bolted to the monitor mounts and screwed into the back of the speakers. I considered adding another bracket at the bottom, but the speakers hang nicely from the top bracket. I will probably paint the angle black but left it unpainted for the photo. NOTE: You can remove the stands as I did by opening the case and removing 4 small screws inside holding the stands in place. To open the case you just need to back out 8 screws on the back of the speaker box. You also have to pull the volume knob on the right speaker and use a socket or needle nose pliers to remove the retaining bolt and washer. The speaker stands really should be easily removable but I didn't think it was worth knocking off a star.

Good for the money
As someone who mixes professional audio recordings, I own a wide range of speakers at all kinds of price points. If you have reasonable expectations considering the price and the size, these speakers will please you. *For the size*, the bass is good. No one is going to ask you where the sub-woofer is hidden. But considering the size, it's not weak sounding like a transistor radio of old. The bottom speaker is not a speaker at all but a passive diaphragm/radiator. This is used to extend the bass frequencies lower than you'd normally get **for a 2 inch speaker**. This is smart design and superior in most ways than bass reflex ports. *For the size*, the volume is reasonably loud. Logitech claims 10 watts, but that's meaningless unless the sensitivity of the speakers are also quoted. It's maybe about 25% of the volume you'll get from a stock car stereo. If you want something genuinely loud, this isn't going to get you there and neither is anything else rated at 10 watts. You need to be looking in the hundreds of watts range before getting any real power. An average club system might be 10,000 to 20,000 watts. Set your volume expectations for 10 watts accordingly. *For the price* the quality is reasonably good. You'd be hard pushed to get something better than this at the same price point. This is a cheap, cut price computer speaker that tries (and succeeds) at being above average. Looks wise, they look quite presentable and clean.

For the price, can't beat em
These speakers are perfect computer speakers, good size, stylish. I have a Mac Mini and dual monitors, neither of which have any sound output so I needed some sound. The one tiny issue with the speakers is they lack that low end bass. But you get what you pay for. I loved the look of the speakers sitting horizontally, I even designed and built a custom riser for my monitors to sit on and that the speakers can sit under.

Best value at $25
Role: cheap , decent-looking AC-powered 2.0 speakers as backup for gaming headset or music while cooking/cleaning/Netflix/etc in a studio apt Pros: >Price < $30 >Sounds great for speakers at this price range. Missing some bass. >Plenty loud. 10W RMS (5W/sat) >AC-powered. - no interference noise from USB power. >Giant volume knob is satisfying to finely adjust volume >Aux in AND out on the front is a nice touch >Green LED isn't too bright >Satellite connecting wire is plenty long for me Cons: >Satellites are hard-wired - non-modular design means you can't rearrange them as easily and you can't separate them - ever. >They're a little bulky if you want compact speakers. Other thoughts: >The "TONE" dial DOES change the sound - it increases bass. These are 2.0 speakers under $100, though, so you shouldn't be expecting a lot of bass anyway. I leave it all the way turned up... People saying they can't hear a difference have no idea what bass sounds like. >The cones being exposed with no cover is neither a pro nor a con - looks neat but be careful with liquids nearby on your desk. >Satellites are clearly marked on the back with an L and R in raised letters with no ink - nice subtle touch >No sub is a pro or con depending who you are. I don't really need one or have a place to put it. However, if you're looking for a sub for less than $50 you need to re-evaluate your price range or just get a nice set of headphones/headset - any sub you get for this little money will be mushy garbage. Comparators: AmazonBasics USB Powered Computer Speakers (A100) >Best-selling AC speakers for $5 less that have only 5W RMS between them, look crappier, and no LED on them. Logitech Speakers Z130 >I don't care how cheap they are they're so /ugly/ GOgroove SonaVERSE O2 Multimedia Stereo Speaker System with Powered Subwoofer & 2.0 USB Powered Design - Works with Acer , Apple , HP and more Desktop and Laptop Computers >More compact, still pretty, but USB powered at 7W RMS, passive sub, but not less than the price of these Z200s. A good alternative. Final: Excellent speakers for the price I paid - $25. If these go up in price to the "original" $40 I'd say you could find a better value for your money.

Good basic computer speakers as long as you don't hase ...
Good basic computer speakers as long as you don't hase your heart set on a lot of bass as you would get with a sub. If you are into listening to a lot of music on your computer or you like to game and want to hear every little sound such as footsteps sneaking up on you and such, you probably want to get something more advanced than these. They suit my needs well but I suspect most people would prefer to upgrade. The only issue I've had is I'm not thrilled with the design - the stand takes up too much room, imo. To make things work for my particular setup I have the one with volume control laying on it's side. For myself, I'd prefer these have a flat base to sit on instead of the stand. Overall I am pleased with these speakers and would buy them again.

Great Sounding Speakers!!
Happy about the Logitech speakers I recently bought. I made the purchase about two weeks ago and I don't have any complaints. I am not an electronic aficionado/ guru but I do enjoy good music played over a sound system that really gets my attention. The Z200 Stereo speakers sound great. Many times I have had to lower the volume so my neighbors won't complain. I have used these speakers with my computers, my Tablet, and the other day I was jamming on the sound of good jazz by the late great Dexter Gordon, I tried these speakers out on my Smart TV with some help from YouTube--I tell you, this was quite impressive. I even use the Z200 with my radio to absorb the Talk Radio/ sports show environment and I cannot complain about how well they sound. I plan to buy another pair soon, the price is excellent. I definitely recommend this product. Shipping was from Amazon and USPS (postal service) my item arrived as scheduled ( 2-day Amazon Prime) very happy.

Takes a minute but they're awesome
Quick pros and cons 1. The cable between the two speakers is ~5ft long. This is great for me I have a 2-monitor set-up and I needed to find a pair with a cable long enough to put them on either side. These do that with room to spare. 2. The sound is clear. It actually took me by surprise. My last pair were a little more bassy so I thought something was off but really it's just better sound reproduction. I do a lot of audio recording (voiceovers for videos, podcasting) and my voice sounds good on these. It also captures reverb very well (damn reverb, need to upgrade my audio set up next!) 3. These sound nice. The highs aren't bad, the mids aren't bad, and the bass isn't bad. I mean they're not like amazing great but these are also $25 speakers. This is probably the best noise I've ever gotten out of $25 speakers. 4. My last pair of speakers were USB powered and I grew to hate that. These are AC powered (6ft long power cable) and that makes me happy. 5. The volume has a good, high quality feel to it. 6. The speakers are deceptively light and made of plastic, but they look really nice with my whole set up. 7. The 2.5" drivers per speaker definitely do their job. Also, these speakers can get pretty loud before getting all nasty sounding. Not like rattle-the-windows loud, but definitely louder than you'll need them to be. Cons 1. The tone knob is rubbish. Put it in the center and use your computer's system equalizer if you need to mess with it. 2. These things are huge! Easily the size of my forearm. I wasn't expecting them to be that large. It ended up not being a problem (hence no stars removed). 3. Read other thoughts Other Thoughts These things take a bit to "burn in". I had them shipped and it's winter time so they may have just been cold but the first couple of hours I spent tweaking every setting on my computer trying to figure out why everything sounded so muted. The bass sounded fine, but the mids and highs sounded a tad muffled (like the sound you get when you put your hand over a speaker. I turned the music off, reset everything to default (where I had started from) and let them chill for a few hours. Then, while I was out, I put them up on moderate volume and, without messing with any equalizers, put some music on and left them playing for 5 or so hours. Once they warmed up and got a little burn in, they sounded much better. For most cases I use default on all the system noises but in Winamp I chose a preset that boosts the bass and treble a little bit. Even when burnt in, the lows and bass need a little boosting to keep up with the mids. Now I'm quite happy with how everything sounds. They require a little work, but once you get them settled in these are a fantastic pair of speakers and probably among the best you can get until you start getting into 2.1 speakers. *****Update August 1st, 2014***** I bought a second pair of these speakers. My girlfriend's speakers died and I gave her the original ones I bought (still going strong after 7 months) and I bought myself another pair. This time it was shipped during the summer so the speakers weren't submitted to the harsh, frigid cold of winter time like the first pair. Thanks to this, the problems I experienced the first time around were much less pronounced and much easier to fix. The "burn-in" wasn't really required at all and once I got the volume and such configured everything worked pretty well. It took me about a day with the first pair but this time around it only took a couple of hours of use before they sounded good. I guess that means most of the problems were simply because they were cold when I first plugged them in. It keeps its 5 star rating. I have bought two of these and would buy a third. I'll update if either of these break down but until then, I'm still happy with my purchase. Still gets my vote on the best $25 speakers around. I'd say I'd buy them again but I just kind of did so yeah I'd probably buy them a third time. *****Update May 6th, 2015***** Happened to be goofing around notice that this was the highest rated review. Cool! So I thought I'd do an update. Both sets of these speakers still work flawlessly (my girlfriend's pair that I gave her and my current pair). They both still sound great. If these broke, I would still buy these over again (unless, of course, I had like some serious cash to spend on a serious set of speakers). I still do my audio recordings, albeit on much better hardware than before. My recordings still sound great on these. I've had no problems with them whatsoever. They survived moving without breaking and a fried motherboard without flinching. I still recommend these to people :) *****Update December 18th, 2016***** Still the best ~$25 speakers out there. Both pairs still work after years of use. These days I have to keep the sound down as my roommate works night shift so these actually didn't get used for about 10 months (been using headphones). Turned em on and cranked em up a bit and it's the same old speakers I remember. Again, I proclaim, that unless I'm spending serious money on serious speakers, these are still my cheap go-to speakers. So happy they still sell these. *****Update December 16, 2017***** Still own these. They still work now 3 years later. They're basically permanent placements on my desk. I would still recommend these to anyone looking for good, cheap speakers.
