OK...I've used this twice now and it works well. The first time I used this it did not work at all, that was totally my fault. At the top of this bottle is a trigger that you need to push forward, when you do water streams out. What I didn't realize is that the first detent is water only. When you push it farther forward then it sucks the weed killer up. So I have proven now that water does not kill weeds. Once I did this correctly, the Chickweed was turning color by the next morning. Now I've read that some people really soak the area. I wouldn't and that's not what the instructions say. This kills by landing on the leaves and soaking in. It doesn't go up through the root system. It doesn't kill the grass...but it is hard on it. That's why I'd be careful as to how much you lay down on your healthy grass. Kill the weed not the lawn. I've included a picture of 3 days after I applied this. The top corner is new SOD. The poison did touch that aread and you can see it's ok. I didn't soak it, but it got sprayed. It's dying everywhere on my lawn. I'm guessing after it's done I'll overseed and fertilize to get things back to normal. But my guess to the reviews that say this doesn't work, they probably didn't push the trigger fully forward. Because I don't see how I could have 100% success and then someone else would have none. This was very quick acting once I sorted the trigger out.

This review is for the purple label Ortho Weed B Gon Chickweed & Clover Killer. My yard has a terrible time with creeping charlie (ground ivy) and wild violets. They sneak in from a neighbors yard who rents the place out so doesn't care what grows in the yard. This is the ONLY STUFF that will knock back the ground ivy, and it usually takes 2 treatments, 2-3 weeks apart depending on weather & how well the first treatment worked. Regular weedBgon will weaken the ivy & violets, but will not kill it outright. This stuff does. I add a scant drop, basically just enough to wet the very tip of my finger, of a good quality dish soap like Dawn or Joy to a 2 gallon sprayer mix. It seems to help coat the ivy leaves better, as they have a sort of waxy coating that repels sprays.

One heavy application of this weed killer eradicated my Creeping Charlie. After applying it, it took a couple of weeks to disappear completely, but it is gone. And...I had a lot of Creeping Charlie in my yard. It spread fast to my yard from my next door neighbor who does absolutely nothing to maintain his lawn. You can now see the distinct line where his Creeping Charlie lives and my yard that is Creeping Charlie free. I will apply a maintenance coat once again at the end of summer just to make sure it stays where it belongs (in his yard!).

I had creeping charlie spreading through my lawn in three places. I did three applications of this chemical mixed to double the recommended strength. It did not kill the grass, but Charles creepeth no more.

This is some Great Stuff! Finally got rid of my creeping charley in my lawn, been fighting it for years, two applications and bye bye charley. Thanks Ortho!

I've had a persistent clover infestation in my lawn that ordinary weed & feed products don't touch. After putting up with it for many years I tried this product. It works very well and after a generalized application in mid-summer I followed up in fall spotting the patches of clover that were left. I'd say the first treatment got 75% of it and after the spot treatment I only have scattered thin patches of clover left. I plan to follow-up next season with spot treatments.

This stuff is amazing. I do not use chemicals on my property but had chickweed growing on my property and it started to take over. I got to use this product just where I needed it rather than put it all over the property. You can see results in less than 24 hours. Some of the grass around the area might brown a little bit I found it comes back and is where I used the product heavily. I hope this helps.

This works really well to get rid of chickweed - I actually did two applications about a week apart and I couldn't see a single weed remaining. I had tried for years to rid my lawn of the vile chickweed and other odd plants that my neighbour gifted me when he bought the wrong bag of seed (some bizarre assorted turf mix instead of grass!) and spread it all over his lawn, which of course blew over to mine! Did you know that chickweed seeds can lay dormant in your lawn for up to seven years? Fun! I didn't even know this product existed until I began to research what exactly was on my lawn and how to get rid of it. The lawn care companies I hired were totally unhelpful of course and actually told me "we can't get rid of the weeds we just reduce them." The arrogance! Had I known it was so easy to get rid of them using this spray then I wouldn't have spent all those hours pulling hundreds of them individually. Everybody with a lawn should have a bottle of this on their shelf. I did notice it has a distinctive odour and I made sure to wear gloves and apply it carefully to avoid getting any on me.

I have waited to review this product since first using it last fall... If you have Creeping Charlie.. this is the only way to kill it.... BUT unlike many weeds and weed killers.. you have to wait for 3-5 weeks after spaying to see Creeping Charlie slowly start to disappear. CC doesn’t give up easily... Additionally, it is wise to re-treat or spot treat at that point. Last fall Ortho WBG killed large patches of creeping Charlie on our lawn after 3-5 weeks, but some areas did not seem to be affected. It looked “down but not out” . However, the following spring it was gone! So spray and be patient! I also believe I’ve had better results with fall applications vs spring... Enjoy!

Critical Tips for Best Results. 1) Do not apply when too hot or too cold (65F to max 80F is best) 2) Try to make sure the forecast is rain-free for a minimum of 24 hours after application. 3) Do not spray too early in the day (allow dew to dry-off 1st). Do not apply too late in the day (not after 3pm). Best time is around 1pm on a clear day. 4) Be sure to not miss patches - what you dont spray wont die. 5) Do not skimp on the application - if you are spending the time and money - Do it right! If you need an extra bottle - Buy one. 6) If you follow 1-5, you will probably not need to do a second application. However, if after 5-7 days, you still see evidence of bright green unwilted weeds - Whine a little, but get over it quickly and buy some more bottles. 7) Repeat steps 1-5 ASAP and you will be free of the applicable weeds within 3 weeks of starting the project.
