Works great with Crucial MX100 500 GB SSD
I have always wanted an external SSD disc via USB 3.0, and for some reason, they just don't exist. Hence, I thought using a generic HDD enclosure with an SSD should be the solution. So I got this Inateck 2.5 inch USB 3.0 Hard Drive Disc enclosure together with the Crucial MX100 512 GB SSD, et voila, it works, and that even lightening fast! However, I stumbled on getting to work under Windows 7 as it didn't show in the Drives window. Thanks to an outstanding Crucial Customer Support team I learned I needed to initialize and partition the SSD first in Disk Management to make it show in the Drives window: Before you can use your new SSD you have to initialize and partition it. 1. In Windows 7 and earlier, open 'Disk Management' by right clicking on 'Computer' and selecting 'Manage', then 'Disk Management'. In Windows 8, move the mouse to the lower left corner of your desktop and right-click on the Start Icon, then select Disk Management. 2. When Disk Management opens, a pop-up should appear and prompt you to initialize the SSD. 3. Select MBR (Master Boot Record) and click OK 4. Right click in the area that says Unallocated and select New Simple Volume... 5. The New Simple Volume Wizard will open, click Next 6. Leave the Specify Volume Size as the maximum (default value) and click Next 7. Select a Drive Letter and click Next 8. In the Format Partition screen, decide on a Volume label (the name you want to give the drive) and click Next The drive is now formatted and ready for use. I am using this HDD Enclosure / SDD combination with my Asus RT-N65U router, as a Media Server. (12/13/2015) Now connected this HDD Enclosure with the 500 GB Crucial MX100 SSD to a Netgear R8000 router for use by the router's media server. Works very well. Am very happy with this solution. 5 stars no doubt!

Works great with Samsung 850 Evo SSD (see speed test results)
Having read a couple of slightly mixed reviews for the Sabrent 2.5-Inch SATA to USB 3.0 Tool-free External Hard Drive Enclosure [Optimized For SSD, Support UASP SATA III] Black (EC-UASP), with one review in particular focusing on subpar read/write speeds and questionable components, I decided to go with the Inateck. Performance is most important to me, and using a USB 3.0 connection, Crystal Disk Mark tests produce results consistent with other reviewers (see picture), which I am very happy with. This drive will primarily be attached to my router, so I don't need it to be ultra portable/durable. Its very lightweight and feels very plasticy, but the connections seem very snug and everything snaps shut tightly...just not I'd expect it to remain intact when dropping on a hard surface (I haven't tested this). Tool-less design is nice for the very rare occasions I'd need to swap drives out. All in all, very happy with the purchase.

Compact and secure HDD enclosure. Great value.
I bought this enclosure for my laptop. One of my internal SATA ports stopped functioning so I moved my secondary internal drive to an external eSATA enclosure. After replacing my system HDD with an SSD, I used the Inateck enclosure to connect my old system HDD via USB 3 as a backup drive. It is very compact and holds my HDD snugly in place. I like the fact it has an ON/OFF switch along with a blue read/write indicator LED. The LED is plainly visible but not overwhelmingly bright. The enclosure is very well constructed of high quality material. The lid slides on and snaps firmly in place so there is no danger of it coming off and the drive falling out. HDD installation was easy and the drive worked immediately with no problems.

Absolutely Great!
This is my second purchase. I love this thing. It's easy to assemble, works great, and because it has an on/off switch you can confidently remove it without going the Windows process - just turn it off and unplug it. The blue LED is another nice feature. Whenever I upgrade a laptop hard drive, I take the old one and put it in an Inateck 2.5 Inch USB 3.0 Hard Drive Enclosure External Hard Drive Case. As long as I'm spending money to upgrade a hard drive, why not spend another ten bucks to make the old drive useful? So far, I have successfully used it with a 220GB SSD and a 1TB SATA mechanical drive. It comes in a nice box, which I label and use to store the drive and cable when I'm not traveling or otherwise using the drive.

Simple solution to make my older SSD more practical.
After building a new system with an Adata SX8200 Pro 1tb as my OS drive, I had no real reason to keep my old SSD hooked up and running all the time. I ran an 840 Evo (same as what they give speed ratings for in the description) as my OS drive for years. Was ran on a Sata 2 port because the Sata 3 controller on my old X58 board was pretty notoriously bad. So from day one my write speeds were capped at 250mbs, the drive is rated for up to 550 read/write if memory serves correctly. With this enclosure my read speeds are on par with what Inatek advertised, my write speeds... 250mb/s. It's almost like it's burned into it, or perhaps it just degraded that much over time. Samsung does make a utility that can wipe an SSD back to factory spec, however you have to 1. make a bootable usb to complete the process and 2. it won't start the process while in this Inatek enclosure. So maybe I'll give that a try at some point and see if it makes an improvement. Regardless the enclosure works great for what I needed it for.

Inateck VS Sabrent
I first purchased the Sabrent due to price and its aluminum constuction regardless of problems some of the users experienced. I did a fix on the case, taping the metal connector that sticks out as some users suggested. I even grinded off a bit of it. Regardless of the fix, I ran into a lot of problem with this Sabrent case, idle, won't connect, flashes endlessly until shut down. I gave up and spent $15 buying the Inateck. It is SO much better, yes it's made with plastic but doesn't have any shortage due to non-metal design. The chip is also covered, unlike the Sabrent one exposed to air. Love the on/off switch and smooth design. I did a speed test and it is noticable faster on the Inateck. See attached image, what else do I have to say...

Quick and easy to use!
I don't normally get enclosures too often because I feel they can be a hassle and most hassle-free ones can get pricey. Saw this for the price it is at and just had to give it a try. All I can say is perfect as it fit my needs and no issues with it at all.

Fits old PS4 hard drives perfectly!
I got this to house the old hard drive that was in my Playstation 4 (I replaced it with a 1 TB hybrid drive, which is a little faster and allows me to store more games, so I highly recommend doing this especially if you buy digital copies of your Playstation games). I formatted the old PS4 hard drive and stuck it in this Inateck USB enclosure and now I have a 500 GB backup drive which I use to backup important photos and documents. It seems really well-made for the price, and transferring files at 3.0 USB speeds is much preferable to USB. 2.0 (as long as your PC has USB 3.0 inputs, of course). This is exactly what I was looking for when I bought it, and it has lived up to every expectation.

Easy and Inexpensive Solution to Get Data from a Dead Laptop
My Win 7 laptop died, and when the tech quoted me an insanely high price for transferring its data to my new laptop, I started checking out drive enclosures. I settled on the Inateck model because of the price and (generally) positive reviews. Inside of ten minutes from the time I opened the box, I'd extracted the WD Scorpio Blue 500 GB drive from my laptop, popped it into the enclosure, snapped the cover on and was up and running. It fit the drive perfectly, so I didn't need to use the foam pad supplied. I now have access to all my old data for a fraction of the cost. Since my new laptop has a USB 3 port, the data transfer was amazingly speedy. It hardly got warm at all while I was transferring massive hunks of data. And once I've retrieved everything I want to salvage, I can re-format it and have a nice little half-terabyte portable drive for backups. I mean, what's not to like? Now, I wouldn't call this enclosure "rugged". Though it seems sturdy enough, it is plastic and I definitely wouldn't want to drop it on a hard surface from much of a height. But what do you expect for the price? This was so quick and easy it's got me thinking I've got another old drive or two that might be worth transplanting ...

Product recommended
My laptop died and I desperately wanted to retrieve my files that were on it. I am not very tech savvy, but a little bit of research showed me that I could easily pull the hard drive from the dead laptop and turn it into an external drive by putting it into an enclosure. I decided on this one, which arrived timely, and I ordered an Inateck pouch to store the unit in also, since both items were so nicely priced. It was super easy to convert my old laptop's hard drive into an external drive. This case was easy to slide open and easy to slide shut again once I placed the drive into it. There were no screws to mess with (like some of the other enclosures out there). The Inateck Enclosure came with a nice quality, sturdy USB cable for transferring data from the external drive to my new pc. It has an on-off switch and a blue light that comes on when it's connected to another device. I am happy with my purchase and I feel like my 'new' external drive is safe and secure in it's new casing and I'll get so much more use out of it for years to come.
