I have a 12v Milwaukee. Loud. No speed control and it kills the battery in a single serious cutting session. I also have a corded ... Drexel I think it is... again... no speed control. Had this in my wish list for over a year and finally pulled the trigger. I own a lot of dewalt and have a lot of batteries. Wow! I didn’t even realize that it is variable speed! Soft start with variable speed is amazing! Easy to control, quiet and smooth. I should have bought this a long time ago. You will love this saw!

this tool compliments our other 20 volt pieces (hammer drill, 2 impacts, and 2 regular drills) we already had the batteries from these kits and so a bare tool was a good buy for us we use our plunge cutter every day...window installs, siding, drywall, electrical boxes in hardwood flooring, trim, and the list goes on... we previously had a 12 volt Bosch cutter and liked it but felt it lacked the power and battery life for our daily tasks. This tool did not disappoint. It has more than enough power for even hard woods. The tool feels correct in your hand and though large does not feel encumbering or awkward in any way. The trigger is sensitive but with practice can used for slow starts in most materials. We liked the light but wished it had more spread and was lower on the tool ... Last but not least I will say we did not like any of the adapters we tried to use this tool with other "brands" of blades (bosch, fien,VM). I like the Dewalt blades fine but with volume we can get a better deal on Bosch blades. When using non Dewalt blades you will need an adapter that bypasses the quick connect feature of this tool and screws into the bottom of the head. Which if your familiar with this type of tool is a more common fit. In this case its secondary and we found it hard to get the bolt tight enough to keep the blade fixed. It would loosen and wander every 7 or 8 cuts..more in harder materials. TO BE CLEAR ITS NOT A KNOCK ON THE TOOL. This is an accommodation for people like myself that have other blades to use or may have to use off branded blades in a pinch. LIKE WHEN OUR LOCAL BOX STORE DOES NOT STOCK THE dEWALT ONES. uGH. I've mentioned it as a note as it might be important. We have decided to simply stock our box with more yellow branded blades and take advantage of the quick change feature...but in a pinch or when in rough material that's eating blades we can fall back on the adapter if need be. hope this review was helpful...

Very pleased with this oscillating tool. I thought it would be heavy with my large 20v battery. I was wrong. My cord Porter Cable is heavier. Another plus, you can adjust the blade 90 degrees either direction. One thing to consider when buying the bare tool is it doesn't come with the cutting guide which costs about $30. I don't use the guide so I'll take the savings.

As so many others have said, an oscillating multi-tool is an amazingly useful, versatile tool and once you get one, you quickly realize you should have bought one ages ago. ;-) Within a couple of days after receiving this Dewalt tool, I found myself reaching for it multiple times and had already used it for cutting, scraping, sanding and more. I also quickly realized how glad I was that I'd opted for a cordless multi-tool over a corded one. It was so easy to maneuver and so nice not to have to deal with tripping over and juggling a power cord. I was a bit surprised by how quickly it burned through a 1.3 ah battery but, a 5ah battery kept it going longer than I ever needed it to go at one task, and having at least one other battery lets you keep charging and changing them out for as long as you need to keep working. I liked how quickly the spring-loaded clamp mechanism allowed me to change accessories and the LED headlight is awesome. As for the paddle speed control vs. a speed dial (like on most other brands), I liked the functionality and ability to adjust and fine tune speed instantaneously. I did find that with the paddle switch, keeping an absolutely constant speed was a challenge and required extra attention when changing angles due to unintended changing grip pressure. That said, I never found that a precisely constant speed was critical to achieving quality results. Of course, the lock button gives you to option of locking into full speed, which works fine for lots of tasks. Still, it will certainly be a plus if Dewalt can figure out (for future iterations of this tool) how to engineer the speed controls so you can lock into any speed you choose.

So it is DeWalt quality... That should get rid of all the DeWalt haters, right? This, flat out, gets work done. I love it. Drywall, wood, sheet metal, flesh, and bone, it just doesn't quit. It gets into tight places where a handsaw would cause you to immediately seek chiropractic help. Fine work to light demo, this tool is useful. Once you have it, you will find task after task that it is useful for. The only complaint I have is the cost of the replacement blades, but here's a pro-tip, grab a small file and sharpen them up yourself.

This is a must have tool for anyone that needs a trim and rough planning tool. I remodel and almost all the time the established construction is not square. This tool will trim flush with floor or wall. I have used it to shave down a stud to improve square. Like a plunge cut only at 45 degrees and just touching the surface. I previously owed a Rockwell corded unit for 15 years. I decided to buy the cordless. It is quieter and is lighter as well as oscillates at a higher rate. The variable speed is very responsive. The Quik Release is great no tool is needed to change from offset to straight. If you are sanding with the attachment it works well in the corners on raised or recessed panel doors. The scrapper attachment works well when lifting old tile or linoleum. I have been using the Dewalt for about 6 months still happy and would buy another one if needed. ETC.

I purchased this tool to help with the installation of a new dishwasher in our kitchen. Since there are many companies out there who make oscillating multi-tools, I should point out that I did not purchase the DeWalt based on any comparison of other brands vs. this, so much as ‘DeWalt brand loyalty’. I have a collection of various DeWalt tools from the 20V MAX system so my motivation for purchasing the DeWalt was because I already have the batteries and chargers from other tools. That said, like all my DeWalt tools the build quality seems excellent and the tool has a reassuring and solid feel to it. Blade installation using the quick-release lever is great (just a few seconds), and does not require any other tools. I also really like the ‘soft start’ trigger which allows the tool to start up very slowly if the trigger is only gently squeezed, as this helps ensure an accurate start to a cut without risking the tool skidding across the surface. Our new dishwasher required an opening in the side panel of the kitchen cabinet next to it to allow for water, drain and electrical connections. Furthermore, the dishwasher needed to be pushed almost flush to the wall to prevent the front of it sticking out beyond the front lip of our worktop, which meant having to try to cut out a hole flush with the back and floor panels of the kitchen cabinet. After trying to do this manually for a few minutes with a small pocket saw and scrubbing my hands against the back of the cabinet, I realized ‘life is too short’ and went ahead and purchased this tool. In the end, this proved to be the perfect tool for the job since no other type of tool can cut a straight hole into a wooden side panel right up against corner (a multi-tool can, due to its offset blade design). I don’t know how long I might have spent trying to fumble around cutting that hole by hand, but with this DeWalt tool the whole job was over in a couple of minutes. A nice neat hole, perfect edges, and exactly where I wanted it. One mildly annoying discovery was that even the bare tool that I purchased does comes with blades. It was not apparent from the pictures on Amazon that this was the case, and so I also purchased the DEWALT DWA4216 5-Piece Oscillating Accessory Kit. In the end, this was a needless purchase, because all I really needed was at least one blade, and the bare tool does come with blades. A friend of mine who does woodworking jobs in his own home came to visit recently and I showed him this tool. One comment he made was that the DeWalt was very quiet and refined compared to the noise of other multi-tools he had seen and used in the past. I admit this is a completely subjective statement, and it wasn’t even me that had the experience of other brands to compare against, but I thought I’d mention his comments if that helps at all. Although this may seem like an extravagant purchase for one kitchen appliance installation job, I have already identified other jobs I can now do with this tool that would otherwise have been done (in a much longer time) by hand.

Purchased after a thief broke into my garage and stole my corded dremel oscillating saw. While I like the dremel, it was a pain to replace the blades and pain to plug in the tool compared to this product. I like the variable speed trigger and LED light that the dremel did not have. But the best feature is an easy to replace blade Since I already had enough DeWalt batteries and chargers, I only needed the tool. This thing is awesome but I have not had a chance to put it through it's paces yet, but it seems like a solid product.

I really like this tool. I bought the "bare" tool because I already have plenty of batteries from other tools. It's really quick and easy to change out the attachments. Literally takes a second or two. Initially I needed it to help me remove old grout from a shower. It was still an unpleasant and tedious job but this tool worked perfectly (with the grout attachment) and substantially cut the amount of time it took to finish over using various other grout removal tools. Aside from the ease of changing attachments, the variable speed trigger is also a great feature. You don't always want this thing running at high speed. The grip is comfortable and doesn't transmit a lot of vibrations to the hand and arm. You can also change the angle of attachments for working on odd jobs or from various positions. Battery run-time has been outstanding. At times I ran it for an hour and a half without the battery slowing down. There are a wide assortment of attachments from various makers available. This is a very handy tool to have around the shop.

If you already have the 20vMax battery system go for it. This tool is incredibly compact and powerful. Used it to grout an entire show stall in about 2-4 hours (1hour to rip the grout out and, another getting meticulous). It only used about 1.5 batteries. Variable speed and smooth; control isn't an issue. Since I already had the batteries I bought just the tool. Batteries are not included but they do include two blades and an adaptor for the old school Dremel blades. Strong points are the precision and control you can get. Not a tile scratched and this thing positively rips through hardened acrylic grout like a buzz saw. The tip quick change head will make you smile the first time you use it. I came over from the old school, get out the Hex key wrench crowd. I literally smiled changing blades. The bad and the only negative I can think of is the bulk of the quick change head. It almost negates using those three-quarter moons, scooped shaped abrasive blades. When using those blades the size of the head won't let you go flush. Get the attachment kit sold by Platinum Supply.
