Perfect lighting!
What a great device. It does take a bit of practice to use it indoors or outdoors. I hate shadows so when using bare flash or a diffuser like a Stofen, horizontal shots are usually fine for people and groups because the flash goes straight back. When you switch to vertical the shadow goes to the subjects left. This causes a large dark blob behind the person. I have used brackets to eliminate these shadows but it is a hassle to mount the bracket on the camera every shoot. However with the Light Sphere there is hardly any shadows produced. Depending on your location, the best use of this diffuser is in a venue with white ceilings where the light can bounce and also spread the light. With practice you will figure out whether to use the dome or no dome and to bounce or shoot straight on. This thing fits almost all flashes. It does use a lot of battery power but for the what you get in the images it's well worth it. If you want fast recycle times, use an external battery source like a Quantum or the Bolt.

Works as advertised
I take a lot of family photos inside and direct flash either overexposes or creates harsh shadows. I have a radio trigger for using my flash off camera but that setup does not lend itself to casual family get togethers. I read the reviews and purchased the Gary Fong unit and it works as advertised. If you put your camera in "P" mode and follow the instructions, you will get good results.

Best flash diffuser mount
I saw a colleague of mine use this flash diffuer about a year ago and I have since been curious as to how it works. After finally deciding to take my photography to the next level, I researched on it for a year and I finally got one. And this flash diffuser has served me well since then. My photos went from ordinary quality to studio quality in a snap. It is particularly effective for night photography. Since the light is been diffused 360 degrees around the diffuser mount, you still get soft light falling on your subject (even with the flash pointing up). This has truly proved to be a win for me. I am very glad I spent 60 bucks to get this. Amazing product!

very rarely use flash because I do not like how intense the results can be
I prefer to shoot portraits in natural light and very, very rarely use flash because I do not like how intense the results can be. This lightspere might have changed everything...while I still prefer natural light, this product is PERFECT for use in sun that is too bright, indoor settings and evening. It's expanded my comfort level in shooting in less-desirable lighting situations. With this mounted on an external flash (I use a Nikon SB-700), I can achieve near golden-hour lighting perfection in bad sunlight (too overcast/too bright/too many shadows), without having to use any reflectors. It's truly magical to keep in your back pocket (literally and figuratively). I use this, too, in indoor photobooth settings with great results!! No need to mount a soft box or any other lighting--just use your camera, your external flash and this speedlight for awesome, consistent results. Very happy with this purchase.

Worked as intended and was very happy with the results
Purchased this to take some family photos on a recent vacation. Worked as intended and was very happy with the results. Definitely provided better results than the diffuser that came with my external flash. Installation was easy and very fast, the strap held the lightsphere on to my HVL-F60M flash very securely. I appreciated the ability for this to collapse into a compact size, made carrying and storage very easy given the limited space in my luggage. I mainly shot indoors as well as outside under the harsh afternoon sun. This product softened shadows very nicely and provided nice even skin tones to my pictures. Outdoors it worked best when pointed directly at the subject with the dome on.

Worked better than I had even dreamed!
I had seen this at a wedding this past summer and had ordered it for myself after speaking with the wedding photographer. It is as good as she said! I used it this last week to photograph 100 members of the choir on stage in their choir robes (black robes against a black background curtain). Previous photographers had been bedeviled by the lousy lighting on the stage and challenging dark color of the robes and curtain. The spherical shape of the top of the Gary Fong Collapsible Speedlight modifier allowed me with a very wide-angle lens to illuminate the choir beautifully!

Fantastic for indoor portraits - beautiful consistent light.
I've heard from a lot of skeptics that this doesn't work any better than a cheapy plastic cap, however, I find that it does a tremendous job compared to those other less expensive diffusers. I particularly like it for portraits at events, where bouncing off a ceiling or wall isn't always possible (or the wall is colored). The lighting is so much more predictable and so flattering for portraits. I have tried to go without my fong at times, but always come back to it for consistency and beautiful light.

Always stay on my Flash.
Originally I thought this was severly overpriced... Until I started to use it. This thing works wonders. This is a mainstay on my camera whenever I use the flash. I see the difference with this and my pictures vs the pics my friends use. Once I actually watched the Gary Fong Lightsphere dvd it made perfect sense to use the necessary setting he recommends. It also collapses and fits into your bag with no prob. If you take pics of people using your flash then this is a no brainer. Definitely buy

Really Nice Light Modifier
I've heard about these Gary Fong Collapsible Speed Mount Light Sphere (White) light modifiers a long time ago and just ignored them because of the cost and seems a little like a gimmick. While I do sometimes see these used at events by other photographers, it never seemed to be the most popular and so I wrote them off until recently. I had an event where I was going to be using a lot of on-camera flash with possible no light bounce options which I loathe but understand sometimes it's necessary so I decided to try one of these. I had also purchased the mini flash softbox diffuser too and thought maybe this cheaper tool would suffice. My first session I used the mini softbox and while I like it better than the light direct from the flash, it really didn't fill the area as much as I would like. So the next session I used the Fong Sphere and was pleasantly surprised. It did require a bit more light power since some light is lost to the sides and back but the spread of the light on and around the subject was very pleasing. This really made the situation much more tolerable and I was happy I had spent the extra funds to get the sphere. I am sure I will use it more in the future which brings me to another notable point of the sphere. It is a nice thickness of rubber material with hard plastic top and I feel that this material construction will last a good deal of time as long as it is not left out in the sun to bake and dry out.

i was amazed. Makes processing easy
I am all for bouncing light, but with diffuser, the balanced exposure you get for most of your shots, even when subject is close or far, i was amazed. Makes processing easy, and while directional light has value, this thing is what is needed most of the time. Nothing is perfect, so sometimes you have to adjust your exposure, but that is what photography is. If gear could get anyone perfect results every time, then why would anyone need photographers? Only thing I learned from a friend after some experimentation is to stay away from the walls. This can sometimes caste unpleasant shadows behind the subject. Not end of the world, just something to get used to.
