Once you realize that this is slot cars on steroids, it's totally addictive fun! Not only can you control speed and weapons, you can pass as well. These aren't RC cars. You don't have unlimited freedom in terms of where the cars will go on the track. It really is like slot cars that aren't locked to a given path...you have to experience it. You won't be disappointed. The track is pretty large when rolled out. You may need to find that one spot in your house or apartment where you have room for the track...but remember, it's very easy to setup, take down and store. There were some very good Industrial Designers on this product. Everything has been considered and thought about. The packaging alone is worth some serious praise. I have two little ones, and this was their Christmas gift this year. That said, we're all enjoying it and I might be the one who is most excited about it.

This is a great item. I ordered it for my husband for Christmas. Of course my 8 year old wants it more and to play repeatedly. It is pretty cool if you get extra cars like Corax who you must beat to actually use him to play. The cars charge very quickly so that is a plus if you do not have extra cars yet. The only down side is who can not use multi platforms devices together. So basically to put it in a nutshell you must play Ipod/Phone against one another or Android against android. Not every model is compatible so I would check before ordering. We have the Fire HD 7 and that is not compatible with Anki. The multi platform issue does not affect us too much with having Galaxy S4 and L3 but it would be nice to add another car as you can battle 4 cars, 3 of your own and 1 computer controlled. Overall this is great. Videos do no justice. You need to own it to see the technology behind it. The sound effects are super cool, loud. Every car has a distinct personality that just gets more well known as you level up. The best thing they did was introduce Anki to Android, as when this first was advertised about 2 years ago it was only for I- devices. Awesome product for family and for anyone who loves slot cars.

My kids love this. I got it on sale on Black Friday so I got it at almost half the price. I have to say it's really cool. Positives: *It's easy to set up. *The cars charge pretty quickly ***Major Plus---the cars stay on the track!!!! I thought for sure they'd be all over the place and I'd be fishing them out from under the couch. *It's really cool Cons: *The track is pretty long....you need a big space to roll it out. However, it's not super wide. (and it does have a tube to store it in). *It does not work off the iPad. my kids have the older version....It doesn't work. Luckily both my husband and I have iPhones, so they use each of our phones to control the cars. But I was hoping they could use their iPads to control them. *It comes with 2 cars to start, but if you want to add additional cars, they start at $49.99! Luckily I only have 2 kids...so I don't have to worry about getting more.

Greatest race track game I have ever seen. The cars stay on the track so my 6 year old can actually concentrate on racing and battling the other car and the other car is driven by the computer. It is truly amazing how easy it is to play. The set up was a piece of cake for 3 iphones, it only took 5 mins. Once the app was installed it recognized both cars without me doing any Bluetooth connections or anything, it just knew they were in the room and charging. The controls are very easy to use even for a small kid and again, the cars will not leave the track so they can't screw anything up. The track is big, I put it on the top of my pool table, but the floor would work too. I have purchased a lot of slot car tracks for my kids in the past and they had such a hard time keeping the cars on it wasn't fun so for $99 this thing is a great deal. The track looks to be made of a special material to improve traction with the cars and the cars use optic sensors to stay on the black track surface. Great toy, worth the money

This was a huge hit this Christmas. My son is 12 and he didn't know what to expect with this. It combines apps with live toy play. First, the cars are well made. The kit comes with two but we took advantage of an offer and got a third for half price. The starter track is quite large once you roll it out. I can see expansion tracks would be fun but the starter one is quite good. Charge your cars in about 8 minutes. The starter kit comes a three port charger for three vehicles. If you have a fourth racer, you may want an additional charger or you simply wait til one becomes free. When the cars are on the track, they drive themself. It is really incredible!!! The best thing is you can race alone, against the computer(s), or other racers. Everyone needs to download the Anki app on their phone in order to race. Caution: you cannot mix and match phone platforms. Meaning, all must be iPhone or all Android to race each other at this time. Also, you have to ensure you device is compatible to run the Anki app. Some older phone operating systems are not able to run the app. I have an HTC One X and it is not able to run it. While the cars are charging be sure to create accounts on the Anki website. Then you login from your app and race. Races can be as short as 15 laps or longer. You can control your speed, fire weapons and use tractor beams initially. At first you think it is just about going in circles. It isn't, it has alot of strategy. As you race, you aquire points. Points can then be used to purchase vehicle upgrades. Picking the right upgrades definitely makes a difference. As far as racing against the computer, during races, there is race chatter (eg. talk). Some are pretty funny. We played Christmas night with the lights down low and it was a lot of fun. This is a great toy for young and older kids (and adults!)

What great fun. Simply roll out the mat, download the app and you are racing and battling with the 2 cars that are supplied. Fortunately my wife and I still have our old Galaxy 3 phones to run the apps on. I see that People complain about not be able to use this product but you should read the details and see if your device is compatible with the Anki Drive App. You must also be aware that all devices must either be Android or IOS, there is no cross platform compatibility. Have to say I have had a lots of fun with my 9 year old son racing and battling with the cars. In addition to racing the other car you can shoot the other vehicles and there is also a tracker beam that you can attack the other driver with. Plus it appears that the more you play, you can upgrade your vehicles through the app. Would definitely recommend this. Have had no issues with the software and the operation of the cars. You need wifi at the house and the cars are controlled via the bluetooth of your phone. You can also play for a good amount of time before you have to recharge the cars. The app will tell you when your car battery is getting low. Would definitely recommend this to all. Have fun.

We ordered the Anki starter set for my 9 yr old. I didn't know a lot about it but it seemed interesting. First off as others have said the track is huge, we move things out of the way in the family room, which was fine but it is something to keep in mind. We also had a challenge with keeping our dog off the track and not pouncing on the cars. Once those hurdles were addressed, we got down to playing. The set up was not bad, we starting racing with two cars and two iPads but soon other family members downloaded the app so we tried it on iPhones, android and iPads. All worked well. My 9 yr old and my teenager immediately took to driving as did my 20 something nephew and his friends. In fact I know that they have purchased at least 1 additional car. The track was busy for hours and the fact the cars only take 10 mins to charge is great. The real test came when I rolled up the track and put it away. I didn't know if it would be forgotten or viewed as too much of a hassle to take it out again. The answer is a resounding no. The kids have been playing with it everyday and today the neighborhood kids were in to play. Everyone loved it. I haven't had any kids younger than 9 play so I can't attest to how younger kids will do but this did earn the ranking of best holiday toy this year.

Bought this for our 13 year old daughter and she loves it. A couple things that I can add that I haven't seen addressed in other posts are..Storage is nice as it comes with a "tube" and can be rolled up into the box for storage. One issue we had was we have an iPad and a Moto android phone. We realized that both devices have to be the same - both apples or both android to be able to race the two cars at the same time. This was probably explained but I am not tech savvy so I didn't realize it till we set it up. My Samsung tablet 3 (which I just got for Christmas last year) will not download/run the app. Someone in another post suggested trying to download the app before you buy the ankidrive to see if your device will run the race cars. That sounds like good advice and would have helped us. It wouldn't have stopped us from buying the race set though. We planned to purchase a new phone so we will be sure it is compatible. We are learning to use the track and we have had no cars run off the track. I can see where this would be a BIG advantage if you have smaller children. I was never a fan of the old tracks that you can to connect and constantly put the either the cars back on the track or reconnect tracks that came loose. We don't have cats/dogs in the house so I can't say how that effects the race track but we have moved it from room to room today with no problems. I do the see the need for a "duster" as you can see some fuzz on the bottom of the cars. Yes, you do need floor space. Check the dimensions to be sure you have enough floor space. I know everyone's is different but to give an idea - it is easily the same or slightly longer than our full size couch - probably about as wide too.

This is an incredibly designed product. First, if you don't have a half-dozen ipads/iphones/android/etc. laying around this is probably not a toy for you. You could easily have $2K just to get started. But if you already have numerous ipads/iphones the incremental price is not expensive for what you get. Second, ignore the reviews from Christmas 2013. There have been a lot of software improvements since then (such as levelling). Driving matters a lot -- my son and I together with moderately improved cars couldn't beat my nephew with a single entry-level car. Third, multiplayer is awesome. Although they're expensive, I strongly recommend a third (and perhaps fourth) car. Three allows you to play with a friend together against the computer which is a really nice game mode. It also lets weaker players team up against a stronger player. The only weakness is that you have to stop quite a bit to recharge. But we had cousins, dads, and even a mom playing for hours each day the week after Christmas. No other present had such family appeal.

I ordered this for my kids on a whim and they just loved it. Turned out to be their favorite gift next to their new Samsung Galaxy 4, 7" tablets which also work fantastic with this set up. The manufacturer is very specific and clear on what IOS and Android models this works with. Setup was easy and the software was easy to use anb set up. Even my 5 year old with his very limited reading is able to operate the software and host or join games unaided just fine. The only CON - Amazon Pricing is about 40% to 60% higher than buying directly from the manufacturer. I pointed this out to them a few weeks ago and they matched the price. Now they have jacked it up to the ridiculous level.
