• Tool to show customer how much brake lining is left that improves customer confidence
  • Increases productivity and eliminates the guess work
  • Green gauge measurement (8 millimeters - .3150 inches) indicates good condition
  • Yellow gauge measurement (4 millimeters - .1575 inches) indicates the need to replace in the near future
  • Red gauge measurement (2 millimeters - .0787 inches) indicates the need to change brake lining

This is a super quick way to check if you need to get new brake pads. Just hold the end of each gauge up to your pad until the gauge matches the pad thickness. That is it, no need to get out micrometers and do some math. If the gauge is green, you are good. If yellow, time to start thinking about replacements. If red, time to install some new pads. The gauges are heavy duty, but are still lite enough to easy use with one hand. Pros: Color coding makes it easy to determine when you should replace your pads. Heavy duty, won't easily bend. Good price. Cons: None yet. Overall I recommend this product to quickly check how much life is left in your brake pads.

I have been working on cars for 15 years going on 16. I know when brakes need to be changed, but when I tell friends and family, they say "I still see some pad left". I like the gauge because of the colors and the thickness. When friends and family see see the red gauge against the brake pad, their tune changes and say "yikes, lets get them changed". Night and day responses. Very well made.

I am a DYI when it comes to brake pad replacement. I am sure that I replaced my pads too early over the years. This tool is ingenious. I can measure the pad thickness without even taking off my wheels. Shine a flashlight through the wheel spokes. Make sure that you are actually measuring your pads. It gives me a peace of mind when it is the right time to replace my pads. Small complaint. The paint on this tool does chip easily but not a big deal though.

If your car has the space between spokes, you can easily estimate pad wear with these. They are a tough tool made from painted steel. Just don't be stupid like me and measure the gap under the chamfer of the pad instead of under the backing plate! I thought I needing pads when I had 80% left. Measuring with the wheel off is less prone to human error. I do not blame the tool though.

My car has a lot of room between the wheel spokes, so I am able to check my remaining brake pad life on the outboard pads without even taking the wheels off, using this tool and a flashlight. I suppose the inner pads (which I can't measure) might differ, but I find that I don't get as many recommendations about replacing my brake pads, when I can tell the service adviser that I just checked them and it looks to me like I still have about 5 mm on the front and 7 mm on the rears. My mechanic checks them every oil change (3750 miles for me) and my measurements generally agree with theirs.

On the snap on truck, this is double the price, but does the same exact thing. I don’t see the point of buying something like this just because it says blue point on it when all it is is metal tabs. Still, very good quality. I tried to write my name in it but it wasn’t very easy because this paint is thick.

I've been working on our cars for over 25 years and always visually inspected the brake pads for wear. I saw this handy little tool and thought to try it out. It works great. Easy to use. It's made of very durable metal that's powder coated. Great addition to any tool box. Will allow you to measure brake pad life as they wear, to see if they are wearing evenly.

The 20 gauge sheet metal gives it a nice solid premium weight to it. The blades are firmly riveted together with a hex bolt. It looks like you can use a M5 allen wrench to adjust the tightness and how easy the blades slides between each other. Out of the box, I find it tight enough to separate one of the blades while prevent the others from moving freely. The markings are legible. It could be sharper or in a higher contrast color but with this type of tool, the red, yellow and green pretty much tells you what you need to know. After a few measurements, you'll probably have the sizes memorized anyways. The paint coating seems to be somewhat scratch resistant. However, with mine, the tip of the blades had color transferred to them from the blades before it. So, I'm not sure how durable the coating is. All in all, I think this is a great tool to visually inspect your brake pad wear quickly.

This is the real deal. Quality construction. Constructed of 20 Gauge Sheet Metal. Durable powder coat finish. Color coded. Accurate measures. Have not tried to use it yet but it looks like it will do the job like any quality brake lining gauge.

Great little tool to keep measurements on the condition of your brake pads during regular maintenance. They operate smoothly, and give you enough length to stick it in the caliper window. I will always on one of these now, perfect little tool.
