Just pull it out of the box, screw in the handle, loosen the breather valve, cycle it 4 times and you're ready to go. For it's size this thing is a beast! Started out with some normal 8" Aspen which was nothing for it. Then we put some 16" in. Finally we put it to the test. We had an old piece of Elm about 18" that we never could split with an ax. The ax would just bounce off. This thing never even groaned. It just went right through it. We then put a piece of 12" Cotton Wood in. Same thing. I'll be building a small platform for it to sit on to bring it up to a more comfortable working height. From what I could see about the extender legs I wasn't too sure about how narrow it was for the height. Looked a little unstable to me. My only regret is that I didn't buy this thing sooner. (The only issue was when it arrived the one wheel was broken but I could see that UPS has run a forklift through the box)

I bought the 7-ton Boss splitter to handle a load of fir logs. The unit is advertised to handle 10-inch logs, 20.5" long. I cut my logs to 16", but they ranged up to ~12" diameter. The ES7T20 handled the larger diameter w/o a problem, unless there were a lot of big knots. Most pieces split easily. I built two small tables to hold the pieces when I split larger logs. I just grabbed the pieces from small logs and put them onto my cart. It was handy to have the tables to hold pieces that required a second split to reach the size I prefer for my stove. I attached a foot pedal to actuate the control valve. That small mod, completely unapproved by the manufacturer, made it a lot easier to use the splitter. I had a hydraulic oil leak from the seal on the control handle. Replacing the o-ring with the next larger size reduced, but did not eliminate the leak. Overall, I believe the ES7T20 is a good value, and I would recommend it to a friend.

I just bought the Boss Splitter a few weeks ago. I live in the mountains in CA and the drought and bark beetles are killing millions of trees here right now. I had to have a 250 foot pine tree cut down because the bark beetles got it. The logs that I have been splitting are very green and full of water. The largest log that the splitter has gone through so far is one that was 16 inches long and 22 inches round and the boss went right though it without any problem. I have split about 30 logs so far all of them were 16 inches long and the circumference varied from 17 round all the way up to 22 inches round. The boss has handled all of these logs without any problem. I have also used the splitter to split kindling all the way down to 1/2 inch wide pieces. I use cedar as my kindling because it splits really good!

I used my new splitter today for the first time. We burn 3 or 4 cords each winter that I cut and split. I split dozens of cords with a 5 ton electric splitter (that was a gift) over the last 6 or 7 years, until it self destructed! The difference between a 5 ton splitter... and this 7 ton splitter is very noticeable! So far I have only good things to say. I've only used it for a few hours... and it is awesome. I researched buying a gas splitter, BUT I had second thoughts about running a gas powered splitter for a few hours at a clip in the neighborhood. So I opted to go electric. And the BOSS is all I need. Granted this is not a 22 ton machine... BUT I have absolutely NO regrets! I also bought the 4 way winged splitter attachment. And if used properly it's a great! You are not going to crack a 12 inch log on the first pass with the 4 way... but once it's halved, the 4 way slips on and it's a great time saver! Yes it rides up a bit... but if it did not ride up and down a little, all that force would be trying to tear your splitter apart! learn to use it! It's great. I would buy this machine again!

I only received this three days ago, but I'm really satisfied! First, it came well packaged and protected. It was delivered three days before I expected it! I had read all the reviews on Amazon about it and also read the manual online. It came full of hydraulic oil, I had bought a gallon before it arrived, because neither the reviews nor the owners manual were clear on whether it came filled with oil. It did. I loosened the vent cap 4 1/2 turns and cycled it through about 4 times. I oiled the ways and anvil with WD40 lithium grease. I also bought, ahead of time a 12 gauge 50 foot extension cord. From looking at the manual, I thought I needed a 10 gauge, but after looking at loads recommended on cords at the store, I bought a 12 gauge and it works fine for 50 feet. I started splitting oak. This oak was cut last winter or the winter before, so it was dry. Our oak in the southwest isn't like eastern oak. They are small evergreen trees with lots of knots, stringy, and very few really straight pieces. This oak was primarily Mexican blue oak and Emory Oak. I believe it's much tougher to split than red oak. However, the splitter did the job quite well. It had some trouble with forked logs, but I was able to try to split them several different ways and it finally got the job done. I also split some Alligator juniper and it splits juniper like butter. I am very impressed! I expected trouble with the oak, but it was minimal. Other reviews mention splitting over a cord a day and some made very outrageous claims. I believe one review mentioned splitting one cord per hour. A face cord, maybe, but not a full 4 X 4 X 8 cord. It took me about 8 hours to haul, split and stack a full cord of oak. The reviews mentioned the need to raise the splitter to a more ergonomic height and I agree. I have a garden wagon that is 48" long, and it worked perfectly to sit the spitter on. Two people may be able to split a cord in an hour, but I don't believe so. I don't know how this splitter will hold up over time, but it seems solidly built and I really worked it hard, so I think it will last a long time. If I was going to buy again, I might go for the 8 Ton one, but right now the 7Ton splitter seems sufficient for my needs. We burn about two cords per year.

My husband had always used an ax to split wood. I showed him this Boss ES7T20 and said we could return it if he didn't like it. Well, this will not be returned. This little thing is AWESOME! I love it, I can honestly operate it with one finger. We have split so much wood with it and I am so glad we purchased this. This winter is suppose to be a harsh one and so far we have been without electricity for about 4 days and I'm thankful that we had all the firewood split to keep us warm. I know that had we not purchased this splitter we would not have had a nice stockpile of wood handy! Thank you Boss for making a quality product that is simple to operate and at a very affordable price! Oh, and I did not receive a discount for a review, how are so many people doing that on Amazon anyway? It makes me think there must be a lot of fake reviews out there. I have to scroll through all the reviews until I see ones that look like they are actually real. Maybe I'm wrong, but it does seem strange to me that so many people seem to be getting discounted product. Anyway, this is a real, honest review from someone who paid full price for this product. I just wanted you to know. :)

IF YOU ARE THINKING ABOUT BUYING THIS SPLITTER, DO IT. THIS SPLITTER IS BUILD VERY WELL. IT IS TRULY HEAVY DUTY. I HAVE BEEN SPLITTING SEASONED MONTANA DOUGLAS FUR AND LARCH. MOST PIECES ARE 18"X12", BUT I HAVE SPLIT PIECES UP TO 18"X15" WITH ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM AT ALL. THE ONE HAND DESIGN IS GREAT. IF YOU ARE SPLITTING BIGGER WOOD I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THE STAND. FOR ME THE HEIGHT IS PERFECT, YOU DON'T HAVE TO LIFT THE PIECES TO HIGH AND WHEN THEY SPLIT THEY DON'T HAVE FAR TO FALL. THIS MACHINE WAS REALLY THOUGHT OUT. AAA+++ ALL THE WAY. THE ONLY NEGATIVE I HAD WAS SHIPPING. THE FIRST ONE I ORDERED CAME LOOKING LIKE IT FELL OFF A FORKLIFT. I REFUSED DELIVERY. I CALLED AMAZON AND THEY ORDERED ME ANOTHER ONE AND HAD IT SHIPPED ONE DAY SHIPPING AT NO CHARGE. THE SECOND ONE CAME WITH NO PROBLEM.YOU CAN'T BEAT THAT SERVICE.............

Amazing pocket splitter for home use. I’ve been using gas engine splitters for 40 years and all are noisy, heavy, polluting, expensive...etc. I now use about one cord of wood per year. I like it split extra small but always have to re-split about a fourth of the load, which is a pain. I’m 70 and my shoulders and back can’t take hand splitting any more...so this splitter is just the ticket. I built a rugged little table on casters to place it at 36” working height and it’s perfect. I leave in on the breezeway next to the stacked wood and re-split as needed. It has plenty of power, is quiet and non-polluting. I highly recommend this splitter.

I'm 73, dealing with cancer and arthritis, but we live on a wooded lot and access to quite a bit of timber. I bought this because of the positive reviews and just tried it out today. It pushed through all the wood like a hot knife through butter. My neighbor, who pushed me to try it out for the first time was impressed enough that he was going home to order one. I must admit to feeling sorry for the UPS driver who had to dig this out from the bottom of a loaded truck - we couldn't have loaded this item from a store into our car, so I'm grateful for the Amazon delivery service.
