It seals fairly airtight, you can soak slides in 90% Alcohol and it won't evaporate.
I really like this because it has a screw on lid. The seal is some sort of (styro?) foam plastic so i use this for alcohol/cleaning baths, not iodine or very reactive stains. I keep a jar or two of slides in 90% IPOH so i always have a clean dry slide available. (Pull the slide out of the jar, shake the excess alcohol off and it will dry quickly at room temperature, wipe it off with lens tissue and it is dry immediately.) It really is a handy way to store slides and you need the screw on lid to keep the alcohol inside. I would test the inner seal before using it with iodine, xylene or acetone however.
