There has NEVER been a better product for doing what this does. Every time I use it, I am AMAZED. ALWAYS buy a larger bottle. A Gallon is a great value. I should have reminded myself of that. I took a $ 4000 blown, blueprinted, balanced 350 ci Ford motor and fly wheel that has been left uncovered in the elements for over 2 years. Almost trashed it. But EVAPO-RUST saved it. I tented it, put it in a wheel barrow and ran Evapo-rust over it, using a swamp cooler octopus overnight. End result the flywheel looked brand spanking new as did the motor. Instead of trashing trashing the motor or spending 100's hours sanding and cleaning. Evapo-rust did it in less than 24 hours, No scraping, sanding nothing just the Evapo-rust !!! Best part, our rose garden has awesome flowers. Pour it on the flower bed or lawn after it's reached it's ability to do the thing it does. AMAZING results.

I used this to remove the rust from several antique tools (iron and steel), and it did an amazing job. Clean off any loose rust using a stiff brush, soak a heavy duty paper towel in EvapoRust, and wrap it around the rusted area. Then wrap that in plastic cling wrap to slow the evaporation of the chemical. Let it set for 8-12 hours, remove the used wrap and rinse with water. Wipe dry and put a light coat of penetrating oil or other preservative and you're done. If the rust was very deep you may want to treat the metal again, but I've restored almost a dozen tools (using less than a quart) and I've only used a 2nd treatment once. As with any chemical - PROTECT your eyes and your skin, I've gotten this on my hands repeatedly and never had a problem, but ALWAYS BE SAFE. Googles and gloves are cheap insurance against injury.

I've seen a lot of polarizing reviews for this stuff and I think your mileage may vary depending on what you are using it for / what you expect. Is this the end all be all to rust removal? Absolutely not, and I don't think it's mean to be. I used this product to remove (excessive) amounts of rust from old arcade screws and other metal parts, and I was very impressed! I will say that you have to be patient though. The product recommends soaking rusted parts for 2-12 hours or some such. Just ignore that, it's more like 8-16 hours depending how how much rust there is. Again, this is probably not ideal for everyone, but you literally just drop your rusty stuff into a vat of this and come back the next day to basically cleaned off parts. I am perfectly ok with that. I will also note that after using this, my screws did not re-rust at all (after rinsing and drying thoroughly) unlike when I used apple cider vinegar, so big win there as well. On top of it all, I think the major draw of this stuff is that it's pretty safe (no I would not drink it and yes I am still limiting how much gets on my skin / will definitely wash with soap and water after touching it, I don't care how safe they say it is). But compared to stuff like CLR and naval jelly, this stuff is very tame, and if you get some in your eyes it won't kill you, or do much of anything really. Also, disposal is super easy, just throw it down the drain, done. Love it. If you need something that acts really fast, this is probably not the product for you. If you need something that will work on rust that cannot easily be soaked for long periods of time, this is probably not for you. Otherwise, I really recommend it, and I can say that I tried it and it definitely works. Be patient and follow the directions! (I would venture to say the majority of user issues are from not following the directions).

Treatment: Took an ice cream bucket, put many rusted but expensive tools in there, poured in the Evapo-Rust, mixed around with the hand for coverage, put lid on. Left for 12 hours. Came back and was shocked that most of the rust was all gone (turned to black). Mixed around again and rubbed off black with fingers and/or cloth, put lid on, left for 12 hours. Re-bottled the Evapo-Rust (SURPRISE--it says you can reuse!), washed them all off with water, coated with oil, and voila! WOW!

I don't usually do reviews but this product is simply amazing and needs the attention. I am restoring a 1940's motorcycle with very old and some very small and delicate parts. Many were rusty. I tried many other methods of rust removal, vinegar, distilled water and sand or bbs, chemical strippers etc. Evapo-rust did the trick when nothing else could and saved me so much work! Not only is it safe to use and non-toxic it's reusable! I used the gallon multiple times and it still works great and just cleans up with some water. I simply submerged the parts and left them. Even an hour of soaking a lot of rust was gone. This stuff cleaned up everything I used it on. It worked on steel, aluminum and brass parts! The parts came out of a day long soak looking like new. I just used a brush and clean water to clean them up afterwards. Evapo rust rinsed right off. I used distilled water to prevent more rust when washing my parts. This stuff isn't even expensive and that it's reusable? Amazing! My carburetor is about 75 years old and now looks like new. The aluminum shines again and the brass is bold! Check out my before and after pictures!

Used this on a really old Coleman tabletop camp stove gas tank that was kind of rusty. I couldn't get the burner to light, so I thought I'd try this stuff and it worked. As others have mentioned, I would suggest adding a few BBs or marbles to help break up the rust in the tank. One application and it fired right up. Good stuff in my opinion.

Wow! This really works and it works well. I cleaned up a range of items. Some mild steel items, some high carbon, hardened steel, and some Boron Steel Garden implements. I had some tools that because of their steel type, were very prone to getting a light coating of rust very easily, so a few years ago, I 'blued' them with gun blueing. One of them, a rarely used set of pliers eventually got rusty and became hard to use. I soaked it in the rust remover and it came out beautifully clean - no rust and no blueing either. When I reused the solution on another item, the rust dissolved well but the tool became coated with a black veneer. After a scrub with steel wool, I got off the coating but the metal was darkened.

I've been using this to remove rust spots on my car. It takes a long time (about 12 hours) for it to do its thing, but it won't harm the paint, plastic, or rubber. I'm pretty happy with it.

Time is money and I have money on my mind! I'm all about saving money on the little things and in this case, buying Evapo-Rust saved me money compared to buying the metal parts individually. I checked the metal parts every now and then throughout the day but in total, it's been a total of 24 hours to completely remove the rust. In the first picture that shows the white paper towels (from left to right) I decided to remove the rust that had been taken out. You can notice a bunch if rust had been removed when I filtered out the liquid. The last photo shows the left over rust from the bucket in which I had everything in. All I have to say is I'm impressed. Keep in mind, don't expect quick results with in minutes. Just let it do it's thing and carry on throughout the day.

There are demonstrations of this product, and the competition, on video that show highly skilled machinists completely misusing this. You do have to clean and degrease the part prior to dunking it and after a day or overnight you take out the item and wash and brush it thoroughly. Heavy rusted areas may need another go. Dunking a sizable part does require a lot of Evapo-Rust, but at least it is reasonably priced compared to other such products. You can reuse this for at least several times before its action starts to slow down. There is a gel version, but I have not tried it. It does not smell and seems to be harmless, as advertised. Some dump the spent fluid that is filled with iron particles over their gardens. This may or may not be a good idea... Good stuff and recommended. Deserved of five stars.
