Would recommend this to anyone!
Love this grill so far. I didn't purchase it from Amazon because they were out of stock at the time. I am always worried about ruining meat on the grill. Overcooking steaks or under cooking chicken. So the fact that it did all of the thinking for me is what had me sold. I have only had it a few days - will update if I find any problems. First night when it arrived, a gorgeous, thick bone-out rib eye. Kind of an expensive piece of meat for a test drive. I put a little olive oil, salt, pepper and Todd's Dirt (love this stuff). Waited for the pre-heating which was about 5 minutes. Threw it on and like probably everyone else who uses this for the first time, I watched the lights change. It took about 7 minutes to get to where I was guessing medium rare would be. It looked and smelled amazing. I put it in a foil tent to let the juices settle. Reset the grill to manual and threw on some asparagus. For those I brushed them with olive oil, salt and pepper and that's it. Put them on the grill and waited. About 5 minutes and I figured they were done. So it was time to eat! It was PERFECT. This was the best steak I have probably ever grilled and I didn't even have to think or guess if it was done. Next afternoon made a turkey, ham, provolone, pesto panini on wheat. Also delicious. And that night I tried a pretty thick and uneven chicken breast that marinated for a few hours in italian dressing. Again added asparagus after while the chicken rested in a foil tent. It was perfect again. Tender, juicy, and thoroughly cooked. It didn't matter that it was uneven, but I will do a better job of that in future. Today, hot dogs. That was an easy one. So far I would recommend this to anyone. If that changes I will update it.

Fantastic Indoor Grill
I've had a number of different indoor grills, and this unit is best one I've had. Some of the best features: * All parts that touch food are dishwasher safe. * The drip tray has an integrated slot in the bottom of the unit - you can't put it in wrong, or out of position. * The unit gives you feedback when the food you are cooking is rare, medium, and well done. It takes into account the type of food being cooked (you tell it) and how thick the food is (it figures that out). I've checked internal temperatures with both chicken and pork at the "well done" temperature according to the machine, and they are all cooked through and at the right temperature, without being dry. I highly recommend this product.

Great until it breaks[updated with reset/fix instructions]
Been relying on this grill for a few months now, a few days ago it decided to stop for no reason, sausage button keeps blinking along with an annoying sound, basically it's bricked. Tefals website is outdated and there's no information about local centers, their support didn't pickup the line after being on hold for an hour. Think about that before buying Update 1/14/2017!! You will need something to use as a 1-1/2" spacer in the recalibration process. An oven mitt or hot pad, a rolled length of aluminum foil, or even a wooden spoon can serve as this spacer. The height of the spacer needs to be at least 1-1/2" and no more than 2" to properly align the plates: For model GC702 1. Plug the unit in. 2. Press and hold for the following buttons at the same time for 3 seconds: Burger + Fish + Manual and release the buttons. 3. The Steak button will flash 3 times. 4. Once the Steak button is solid, open the grill, place the spacer between the grill plates and close the lid. 5. Press the Steak button once and let it go, it will flash 3 more times. 6. Open the Grill and remove the spacer, then close the grill. 7. Unplug the grill for 10 seconds. 8. Plug the grill back in and it should operate correctly. If you have the OptiGrill with Ceramic Plates or the OptiGrill Plus - models GC704 & GC712 – please follow these additional instructions: 1. Press and hold the following buttons at the same time Burger + Poultry + Manual until the unit beeps and shows the blue light. 2. Open the lid. 3. If the unit light turns red open the grill and insert the spacer, close the lid until the light goes off. 4. Open grill and remove the spacer, close the grill and unplug for 10 seconds. 5. Plug the grill back in and the unit will be reset. If in step 3 the light turns off, follow these additional steps: 1. Insert spacer 2. Close lid 3. After 3 seconds the unit light will turn green then beep. 4. Open lid, Light will turn red and the unit will beep. 5. Remove the spacer and close the lid 6. Press the power button 3 times, with each press the light will change from Yellow – Orange – Red. 7. Unplug the unit for 10 seconds. 8. Plug the grill back in and the unit will be reset.

This grill is absolutely the best invention yet!
If I could give this grill six stars, I would have done so! This grill is fool proof! I've already cooked lobster tail, bacon, filet mignon, New York Strip steaks, and pork chops without one bad result yet! I'm still not sure how it "knows" how thick an item is that is cooking, or when to alert you when the item has completed cooking! I love cooking with this grill! Next, I'm cooking chicken breast. I usually avoid chicken because it can become so dry. I'm sure that it won't be an issue with this grill! A great feature is how you can cook frozen meats with the same great results by simply pressing the snowflake button, too, as you program the grill as usual. Clean up is so easy! The metal plates come free in an instant, pop in the dishwasher, and click right back on again. Likewise, the drainage dish for excess fat drainage for once really fits perfectly compared to other grills, and there is simply no spillage. Sure, the grill is a bit costly, but you do get what you pay for. I bought the larger grill so I could have more programming features for bacon, etc., which the smaller model does not offer. If you are concerned about any possible issues down the road, purchase the protection package for four years for repair or replacement at Amazon's great price. Then, you really are risking nothing giving this grill a try!

Cooks Meats To Perfection! Nice & Juicy With No Flavor Lost!
For many years, I have been using a George Foreman indoor grill that is about this size and I've always been pleased with the way it cooks. The downside was it was a pain in the butt to clean and wash after using. That is what drew me to this T-fal OptiGrill. It has a few features my other didn't have which I must say I have been loving. I've had this now for several months and have used it many times now to cook burgers, sausage, steaks, chicken, chops, potatoes and more. This is super easy to use and your meats come out juicy still. I know some people think grills like this dry your meat out and remove the flavor but it doesn't at all. This has a different colored light for pre-heating, rare cook, medium and well done. The light illuminates and the grill beeps at each cooking interval to let you know your food is done for that setting. If you do well done, once it's cooked it will change to a warming setting. The drip tray slides easily under the grill to catch any dripping juices and fat cooking. You can cook fresh, thawed or frozen meat on this and no matter which you use, it comes out great every time. The cooking plates are removable which makes washing this super easy. I wash them by hand since I don't have a dishwasher. This comes with a small cookbook too which has some yummy recipes in it. The potatoes I made in my photo are from the recipe book. I have not had any issues with this not cooking my meat just the way we want it. It's nice because my daughter likes rare, my son medium and myself and husband like ours well-done so with this, we just pull it off as the system beeps and leave the rest on to continue cooking. Overall, a great indoor grill that I am glad I purchased. I may upgrade to the 8 serving size in the future as I only purchased the 4 serving size.

Best indoor grill!
The thing I love the most about this grill is it automatically cooks different kinds of food to the right temperature (rare, medium rare, medium, etc.) and let's you know when they gets there via changes in a colored light and an audible beep. It also lets you know when it is pre-heated, can do frozen or unfrozen food and has settings to control all that. You can select both the type of food (burgers, chicken etc.) and the level of doneness for the food, and it autodetects how thick the food is so you don't have to worry about that either. I tested the settings with a thermometer after cooking and it cooked true the internal temperature requested. So if you want a fool proof grill you don't have to hover over when cooking your food, this is it. The grill plates also remove easily for putting into the dishwasher. I've had to struggle with the grill plates and drip pans in some other grills I've owned, but this one is very well designed.

I've had this unit for a few months now and so far I am completely satisfied. I was a bit concerned after reading so many problems with the grill going in to manual mode. The only time that happened to me was due to a misaligned plate. Once I noticed that and reinserted the plate properly I had no issues. The unit cooks perfectly. Steaks, chicken, and pork chops all come out as desired. The only quibbles; thin steaks cook very quickly so it's very tough to have any pink in the middle. Second, the bottom plate doesn't sear as well as the top, so I end up flipping things. No big deal. I highly recommend this grill. I love the fact that I can enjoy grilled meat in the winter. Makes eating right a lot easier.

If it will only cook on manual, try this!
Great grill, but I was disappointed when it started cooking on manual only. Thank goodness, the fix was simple! If this happens, it most like needs to be recalibrated. Have an object ready that is 1.5-2" thick, and that will fit entirely inside the grill. Then follow these steps: 1. Start with a cold grill. Plug it in, but DO NOT turn it on. 2. Simultaneously press the hamburger, fish, and temperature buttons. The steak light will blink, then glow steadily. 3. Open the grill and place your object in the center (I used a cat food can). Close lid. 4. Press the steak button. It will repeat the blinking, then it will glow steadily. 5. Open the grill, remove your object, close it, then unplug it. 6. After waiting a minute, plug it back in, and voila! You can now select the specific food buttons! Note: If the sausage light starts to flash after following this procedure, your calibration item is not contained within the grill. (Don't ask how I know! 😄) If this dos not work, call customer service before you give up and send it back, as they can ensure there is no issue with the calibration procedure.

Great grill!
I absolutely LOVE to grill but sometimes going outside to the grill itself can be a pain with the elements. This is my solution. Perfectly cooked beef and juicy chicken. If your anything like me, you overcook chicken because of the fear of undercooking it. The T Fal grill cooks it perfectly every time. Make sure when using this grill that you do your best to make sure your food is of even thickness. Steaks come out tasting great and cooked to the desired temperature but do not have the same appearance as a traditional grill. Pork chops come out juicy and tender. Cleaning up is easy, the plates are dishwasher safe and all of the food comes off easily. Highly recommended to continue grilling in the winter and all seasons with simplicity.

I bought the OptiGrill XL at the end of August 2016, and have used it mostly for rib eye steaks, chicken breasts and bacon. It has been outstanding in all regards. Bacon from this thing is amazing, and though I was suspicious of the frozen to done capability it worked flawlessly. The grill plates fit in the dishwasher ( Bosch ) and come out clean. I have been looking for accessories for this grill and additional grill plates, but have not found them yet. Prof Mayfield
