When I received this mower, i assembled it (10 minutes) and went to work. The grass, which was wet from rain, clogged the mulch feature so that the engine stalled. The bagger was no better - the grass piled up at the front of the bag and eventually clogged the exit from the mower. The side discharge chute, described in the manual, did not come with the mower. But when I registered the mower online, there was an option to receive a free side discharge chute. I receive mine in 3 days (they promised 4-6 weeks) and solved that problem. Rather than being a pipe that would clog, the chute is a channel with no bottom. Dry grass flies out the side, while heavier wet grass just drops to the ground. The engine is strong. I got the Honda because I have other Honda engines (generator, snowblower) and they are terrific. The one-side height adjustment is convenient. The mower is a little front-heavy and can be tiring to turn when going back and forth. I would avoid sliding it sideways as the plastic wheel assembly looks vulnerable; rather, tipthe mower up on the back wheels and turn it. The automatic choke works great. One pull usually suffices to start. So far this is a fine mower, and very convenient to use. The manual I think has an error. The pictures that illustrate how to put the grass bag on are for assembling the handle. So you are on your own figuring out how to get the bag on.

My last lawn boy lasted over three very tough years; this is the updated replacement. I could have stuck with the old one, which was starting to wear out, but when I mow, I just want to go out, turn the key, and have the power I need to get it done as quickly and easily as possible. The earlier Lawn boy was great, but the wheel height mechanism was plastic and weak. The new one fixed that. The old one's gas tank was a bit small, and easily overflowed; the new model fixed that, a larger tank that's easier to fill. The old one had to be serviced, this new one never needs an oil change. Face it; lawn boy is the standard in dependable mowers, I'll never buy another.

Update 05/11/17...........A couple of times the air filter & cover would blow off this mower when the mower was shut off. I would just put it back on. A 17 yr old used the mower and did not realize the filter had blown off (dog carried off filter). He cut grass and evidently the dust pulled through. When cranked again the mower was smoking. A small engine mechanic said the dust has scarred the cylinder and that it might last a cutting or two. Under the circumstances of there being a problem with the filter and cover being blown off could you warranty this mower? I need to know soon, if not, it looks like I will need to purchase a new mower. Thank you for the consideration. Linda I had a lawn boy years ago and loved it, the mower lasted for years. We moved and had a bigger yard so we only used a riding mower. We now have a smaller yard so I ordered this mower, runs the same. Cranks on second pull, easy to maneuver and I love it. I would defiantly recommend this mower to anyone looking for a push mower. Never had the self propelled but, the 17730 is easy to push and I am 65.

I purchased this mower because a walk-behind push mower bothers my back. I've owned this mower 2 days and mowed weeds (big thick-stalked weeds, not lawn) with it for about 2 hours and believe it's impossible to beat it at this price and possible to better it only marginally at much higher prices. I've owned several walk-behind push mowers of good quality and one self-propelled mower of very good quality which sold for a much higher price, so I have some experience with which to make comparisons. This Lawnboy assembled and started (both electric and pull) right out of the box.The battery box was damaged in transit and Lawnboy's service department (also excellent) is sending a replacement at no charge along with the side-discharge attachment which I failed to order initially. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this mower to any homeowner.(And my back is feeling great.)

I read a lot of the reviews, the negative ones too complaining about wheel height issues and other various issues. I unpacked mine, put the handle on, poured the oil in, fueled it up and it started on the first pull. The battery was fully charged and the electric starter worked I just didn't know how to use it. Have to hold the safety handle down. Electric starter works real nice and smooth. Very happy with the purchase. The negative reviews are all from about two years ago, they obviously resolved the few issues people were complaining about. Plenty of power also, my grass was high and thick, it plowed right through it. Bag is easy to get off and on and collects the grass really well. Pay no attention to the negative reviews, this is a great machine! The only very minuscule issue, when I release the handle for the self propel, it does drag a bit when pulling the mower back, just push it forward an inch or so and it will release. That may be some sort of an adjustment that I'm unaware of, all in all, very happy

I was looking for an easy to use push mower. Well this has been good so far. I bought an electric start mower because I’m not strong enough to pull the cord to get it started. This mower has both options and it says guarantee to start on two pulls so i thought I would try and sure enough I was able to do it so I’m impressed. The only thing that took time to get use too was the self propelled option. You have to get use to how far you want to push it down. If you push to hard it goes fast almost to fast at times but the more you use it, you get use to it. All in all great mower. So girls if you are looking for a mower easy to use, this one is it.

Ok, true story....when I received the first mower the front end was broken. I contacted Amazon and UPS and UPS came and picked up the mower and Amazon asked me if I wanted another mower or a refund. I requested another mower. I am SO SO glad I did. It was a total fluke. I really really like this mower! It really does start on the first pull (or second). I've had to add half a container of oil (other than the one that came with it) in the year that I have owned it and it's very economical on gas. It is a true mulching mower. My son is 13 and started mowing with this mower (supervised) when he was 12 and it has been so easy for him to do, and for me as well. I love the thing! My dad has HIS dad's old Lawn-Boy and that's what I was using before it died! He was shocked to find that Lawn-Boy was still making lawnmowers and was proud to find that I had done my research and bought a good lawnmower, whatever the brand.

People have had problems with this mower because of some malfunction in the upper right wheel causing it to not be adjustable to the blade length of the grass however this had no impact on me and in fact I can change the cutting length of the mower with no problem at all so I think it was a malfunction for certain versions of this. It is a self-propelled powerful gas powered mower with a bag and in my opinion this is the best option considering the price. I would buy a ride-on mower if I could but this has been great it does exactly what I hoped

My Grandfather had a Lawn-Boy that he passed down to my dad. When that one finally died, he bought another Lawn-Boy. I thought it only appropriate that the first mower that I purchased be a Lawn-Boy as well. I bought this to use on the lawn at the house that we just bought. It was delivered quickly. (Thank you Amazon Prime!!) Was sturdily packaged, easily assembled and easy to use. A note on assembly, you definitely need to make sure that the front axle's are "clicked" in all of the way prior completing setup and firing up the motor. A sharp tap with a rubber mallet should do the trick just fine. As others have stated, the mower ships with a bottle of oil. It will take the whole bottle on the first fill. I plan on saving the bottle and re-filling with oil so that I have a bottle with the proper amount of oil, ready to go for the next fill up. Its so awesome to be able to start a mower with only one or two pulls and not have to prime or choke the engine. I looked at the other Lawn Boy models, but settled on this one because of the Honda engine. I'm willing to pay a little bit more for a quality engine. Briggs engines work, but tend to be loud and somewhat heavy. This mower is extremely quiet and the larger rear wheels make this a dream to push. So far I've used the mower twice, once with the mulch option and once with the optional side discharge chute. It mulches normal length grass just fine. The grass on the side of my rental was extraordinarily long and while it did mulch, there was a bit of push and wait, push and wait. Side discharge or bagging would have been a better option here, but I didn't have the side discharge chute yet and I didn't really want to bag because I have nowhere to go with the clippings. If you register the mower on Lawn-Boy's website, there is an option to have a side discharge chute delivered to your home free of charge. I think my chute came within 2 or 3 days, even though it said to allow a few weeks for delivery. The side discharge option is unique as it sits in the bagging area and discharges clippings out the left hand side of the mower near the rear wheel. This actually turned out to be a great design because you don't have to allow the extra space for the chute on the right hand side of the mower that you typically see. I can get as close to obstacles on the right as I can on the left. All in all, I'm extremely happy with my purchase so far. Its nice to have a good, quality mower to go along with my new lawn. :-) **Update: 5/17/2016** This mower is still going strong. Got it ready for the season last week by swapping out the spark plug, air filter, new cutting blade, and oil change. She started right up on the first pull, no fuss. I can still highly recommend this green machine. **Update: 11/1/2017** Three seasons under her belt and she still starts on the first pull every time. Can't beat this Honda engine. Simple maintenance and she will treat you right. The spark plug was remarkably clean this spring so I didn't even bother to change it, still no issues starting. Oil change at the beginning of each season, spark plug and air filter every two seasons and she will keep going. I'll report back next season with an update.

this is the best starting mower I've ever used, UPS dropped it off, I tore into the box, pulled out an awesome looking mower, installed the handle and grass catcher, checked all the nuts and bolts, filled it up with oil that was supplied in the box and poured in some gas, pulled the rope one time and she fired right up....mows great too :) easy to maneuver, not too heavy, it is a fine mower but I still hate to mow LOL
