What a scanner! I have had scanners from the day they were presented. This BCD536HD has to be the one that is so impressive. I like the way it hooks up to my PC and the way I can program frequency and favorite channels. Before I purchased this rig I was told that trunk tracking was not in my area. Well the joke is on the one that gave me this info. I hear many trunk frequency's and they use P25. The only thing I don't like is the speaker is underneath. I will purchase an external speaker for a clearer sound. I did purchase the program ARC536PRO and it is a great program for virtual control on PC. I did learn a lot from other users on http://www.radioreference.com/ and video on YouTube.com. If you are thinking of getting this scanner, don't hesitate, it is a great receiver.

FINALLY! A Scanner with the durability of Old, and with the ease of HP-1 Programming! Yes, I do own a HP-1. It is an excellent scanner, but I always thought that the build was just a tad on the flimsy side, and not very durable. I use it primarily as a home base station, as it's all plastic, hollow chassis does not make it a desirable choice for extended road trips. Now, the BCD536HP is my kind of Scanner! It practically screams "Road Trip!" Mount one of these puppies in your Car, Camper, or SUV, and with the right kind of antenna on your vehicle, and it will be the only radio your vehicle will ever need. This thing is built like a Cinder Block, and is just as durable. Of course, you don't want to spill liquids on it, but other than that, it is pretty resistant to road travel, has GREAT Audio, and what could be easier than traveling around the country, and the only thing you have to do to get pretty much ANYTHING you want to hear can be, just by punching in the Local Zip Code! Of course, this also makes a great home Base Station Radio as well, except for one glaring fault: The Wi-Fi Dongle feature is just about as useful as a Zebra on a Bicycle, unless they ever come out with a version of their SIREN App that is PC Friendly. Other than that, this is the most AWESOME, TOP OF THE LINE Scanner Uniden has ever made.

Looking at some of these reviews, you can't tell which Uniden product the reviewer bought. They're all bundled together. Mine is the Uniden BCD536HP. First of all I noticed it was heavy. Don't know if that's good or bad, but I like it like that. As soon as you get it turned on, keep your finger close to the avoid key, because you'll be using it a lot, until you get some of the items weeded out. This is by far Uniden's top of the line scanner. It will take some getting used to, but it's the best sounding, and the best overall functioning scanner I've ever owned, and this one makes number thirteen. This police scanner hobby is kinda like chocolate, you always just want another. You can get by with just a zip code to get started, if that's what you like. but you will have to spend some quality time later with your 536, but you have all the tools with sentinel software, and the cable included in this package. If you just want to plug and play the Uniden Home Patrol is the way to go. Everything you ever wanted to know about a frequency shows up on the Home Patrol screen, but I wanted a challenge so I bought the 536. I know my way around a computer just a little, but I can read and look at you tube. There are a lot of videos that will help, and you might as well get a subscription to Radio Reference as well. It's a great help, and has tons of freqs if you need them. Spend the money, you can't take it with you. .

WE'VE ONLY HAD TWO SCANNERS IN OUR 50 YEARS OF MARRIAGE. THE SECOND ONE HAS NOW DIED, AFTER HAVING BEEN ON DAY AND NIGHT. THIS ONE WAS PRICEY BUT BEARCAT IS A GREAT REPUTATION AND, NOT KNOWING IF OUR CITY IS GOING DIGITAL OR NOT, WE TOOK THE JUMP. TOO TECHNICAL OF COURSE FOR US (75+ AGE), BUT WE HAD A TECKIE GUY PROGRAM IT FOR US. HERE'S TO ANOTHER 50 YEARS. . . . .OR THE ESTATE SALE.

Great radio, I've got another one of these purchase about a year ago and the best of the best, covers everything you need to cover and the ability to program via a zip code is incredible, gone are the days of punching in hundred of freqs manually like in the old days! The only issue? Amazon needs to learn how to ship things!!!! You pay $450 bucks for a radio, and you expect the product box to come INSIDE a box right? Wrong. Amazon ships these in ONLY the the box the scanner comes in and drop's it on your doorstep. Luckily I was home when they rang the bell, picked up the box and said WHOA! I called over the driver and showed him an empty box except for the accessories and manual, he called his office, I gave him back the box and I had to reach out for a refund. Sad...

I am a scanner newbie, I wanted something to listen in to local police and fire and air. My experience with scanners if very limited. I first bought the RS PRO-652 from my local RS store. I had a heck of a time trying to program this, I basically used search and tune and entered one frequency at a time. Very frustrating, even after reading instructions. I thought I'd order this Uniden after reading how simple it was to program. I ordered through Amazon and got it next day. From the time I opened the package and got it working was like 30 minutes. I put in my zip code and it started loading the area database and I was in business. I even found this one picked up distant radios a little better as well. I returned the RS and haven't looked back. I have a Apple iPad and can listen to it using the Siren app and even do some programming and other controls with it. I wish they had the Siren for PC or Android. WIth wifi it should be able to connect to the PC wirelessly. My SSID contains several lower/upper case letters and I was unable to figure out how to do caps lock or lower case. So I created a new one using all upper case password. I still am learning with this scanner but so far it seems to be light years ahead of others with the home patrol software built-in. I am able to pick up radios from two counties away, faintly, but I can hear them. So far I've been very pleased with this scanner.

Very nice scanner with many options really a professional piece of equipment. Unidens sentinel program is a big help programming the scanner and also some very nice instructions on YouTube. I noticed that a lot of people on Amazon go for the pre-programmed option on Amazon this is not necessary with the Sentinel program. save yourself some dough and do it yourself this is my first Scanner and I figured it out The scanner comes with a microSD card whent you install the Sentinel program on your computer you can simply plug the micro SD card into your computer and program it for your area

Confession: I'm BRAND NEW to the scanner hobby. There, now that that's out of the way. The 536HP is an absolute TOP OF THE LINE product! After spending quite a bit of time learning how this darn thing really works, the results are pretty darn amazing. Initially I was quite frustrated at the lack of channels that I could listen to in my immediate area even though I live in a major metropolitan area. A little research helped considerably so I purchased a much better antenna, placed it outside, spent a few hours reading over the manual and watching some youtube videos and actually found some listenable local channels. Spent some more time researching and learned some of the actual features of this scanner and how they work. There are an AMAZING amount of things that can be done with this scanner. If I had to do it again, I would start by doing more research, especially about antennas and proper placement for better reception. This is an unbelievably powerful scanner that quite honestly, with the right antenna, is plug and play right out of the box. FWIW I live in an Apartment with a lot of RF interference. After putting a decent antenna outside it really opened up the reception for me. I can understand the reviews that say that this is a complicated scanner and agree to a point. I've spent quite a few hours getting this thing to where I understand it.

This Uniden is so much more user-friendly over the Whistler that I tried first. The unit itself and the software both are so much easier to use and understand. I really like the siren app the scanner is in my radio room hooked to the outdoor antenna I'm out on the back porch listening to the scanner on my phone through the siren app I can change my search or whatever I would like to do. Very nice good job Uniden!

I purchased two of these units that were shipped via Amazon Prime (VERY FAST). They replaced two older scanners that would not receive P25 Phase II Trunked Radio Systems as our local law enforcement is all changing to a new system. I had previously purchased a BCD436HP so had already developed a basic load that would work in these radios. The reality is that these are much better than the portable - they do not seem to suffer from the VHF/UHF oscillator induced de-sense that plagues the handheld version. Their sensitivity at VHF and UHF is comparable to the GRE units that they replaced. I use one of these in my base station and one in my mobile. So far they are working GREAT!
