- STRAIGHT FROM US TO YOU: Other sellers often attempt to sell marimo through fulfillment services that keep your plants in a dark, dry box for 2-5 weeks. If it says "Sold by *** and Fulfilled by ***" under the price, that means the plants are being shipped from a fulfillment center instead of directly from the seller. All the extra time in transit all but guarantees the plants will die in the months following delivery, and is actually illegal since fulfillment services don't have nursery licenses.
- HIGHEST RATED MARIMO ON AMAZON: Unlike other Marimo, our moss balls go through a 3-step quality control process where we quarantine and treat the Marimo to eradicate potential pests and parasites, carefully grade each Marimo to remove low quality specimens, and then each moss ball is gently hand washed to remove most sand and silt. This ensures our Marimo are free of all the common contaminants and pests included with most Marimo on the market. Our Marimo are sustainably harvested in Europe and are 100% natural with no dye, pesticides, or other contaminants.
- THE EASIEST LIVE AQUARIUM PLANT: Marimo Moss Balls are without a doubt the easiest live aquarium plant; they require no special aquarium light, CO2 system, or aquarium plant fertilizer. Marimo also remove nitrogen and phosphate from the aquarium, increasing water quality and removing algae by competing with algae for nutrients. Marimo can be kept in nearly any freshwater aquarium that has a temperature of 78f or less. They are particularly useful in shrimp and snail tanks, as the shrimp and snails love grazing on them for biolfilm.
- BEAUTIFUL AQUARIUM DECORATION: With their deep green color, spherical shape, and easy level of care, Marimo are the perfect live aquarium decoration. Their unique appearance makes them a centerpiece aquarium ornament in any small aquarium, and a wonderful addition to aquarium driftwood, aquarium rocks, and other natural decor of a large aquarium. Marimo are also widely popular for use in terarriums, jars, vases, and other containers. Marimo are a unique wedding gift idea, and they are traditionally given as gifts in Japan to signify love and commitment to a partner.

"these balls are huge!"
The moss balls arrived in perfect condition. My first impression was, "these balls are huge!". I am an amateur fish keeper, with a betta tank and my son has a sea monkey tank (yes, I am aware that they aren't fish, save what you're thinking for another time and get over yourself). I was expecting the nano ball to be tiny but it was about an inch and a half in diameter upon arrival. I plopped that sucker in the sea monkey tank without any casualties, I think. The other four balls are giant and the same size as the ones you find in the chain pet supply stores, for $9 a piece, and these balls aren't even at their full size! I dropped one in the betta tank (about two gallons, no, I don't keep him in a sad little friendless and toyless cup, and actually since you're wondering I picked him specifically because he was the saddest of sad out of the bettas in the store, he was sick and I paid cash money for medicine and he got better) and after my betta asserted his dominance towards the green hairy ball I was able to get it to stay all the way at the bottom under the vast pressure of a fern (live, mind you, nothing but the best for my $7 fish and his 39ยข cleaning crew) he made peace with the object. The cleaning crew (ghost shrimp... if you don't have any, get a couple, they really do an excellent job) are weirdly drawn to the green hairy ball and spent all afternoon exploring it, until finally I had to remind them to get back to work. The other three balls??? Looks like I'm gonna have to make a few more aquascapes to house them, which my husband will be absolutely thrilled about. Until then, I have them sitting in a nice, large container filled with dechlorinated water and aquatic plant fertilizer. They actually look kinda cool on their own. I might toss one in a mason jar filled with rocks and water, just to be weird and irritate my husband. In short, these moss balls are well worth the money, you get four plus a nano for $5 more than what one will cost you in the store. If you've reached this part of the review, just click buy it now and you won't be disappointed and won't have wasted your time reading the rantings of a bored housewife who treats her fish better than herself. I'm not pathetic... really I'm not.

Four Month review - Still highly recommended
Purchased these four months ago. All four arrived in great condition; bright green; round; no bare or brown spots (this was also the end of December in Chicago for those concerned about shipping these in colder weather). I washed them well before placing them in the tank and had no problems with cloudy water or any change in any of my tested levels. Four months later they continue to look fantastic. Only attention I give them is to take them out and squeeze/clean them each several times once per month when I clean the tank and do a water change. 8 Month update - Just a quick update; after eight months all four Giant Marimo balls remain in really great shape. All are bright green; no bare spots; and seem to be thriving. I can't really state that they have grown at all; but they grow extremely slowly so I'm sure I would have never noticed. The only maintenance I continue to give them is to take them out and squeeze/clean them each several times once per month when I clean the tank and do a water change. If they seem to be misshaped I just roll them around between the palms of my hand for a few seconds and magically they are again perfectly round. I'd still recommend them.

Like other reviews have mentioned
Holy goodness these are so lovely. Like other reviews have mentioned, I definitely received MORE balls than what was stated. I ordered 6 and received 8. Hopefully for the seller this is intentional and they aren't losing money thanks to an order fulfillment issue! I've had these in my tank for a little less than a week. All are still perfectly green except for one yellowing spot on the largest ball about the size of a quarter. I should note this is also the same spot at which both my molly and my crab are constrantly picking. I've watched my snail moving them around to create herself a little nook. I've watched a fish poke at one until it shook itself loose and started floating. I watched the crab walk on one while rolling it around the tank. Everyeone in my tank seems to love these!

Great addition to a new tank!
the Marimo moss balls arrived a day early packed for secure delivery in the cold temperatures. Simple prep to add to the tank. They added instant life and color to our new tank! Wish I could fit more in our 55 gallon tank but the 4 + 1 bonus balls fit perfectly. The Xl balls are the size of baseballs. The next step is to order a variety of shrimp to populate the Marimo moss balls from Aquatic Arts. Great group to work with. They sank to the bottom after a few hours, just have move them around to complete.

Too Green Too Big
Oh my goodness! I am so furious I can barely type I have to dictate to my phone my feelings on this matter! I ordered 3 moss balls and you have the audacity to add a 4th! And along with that they are lush green and far bigger than any other moss ball I have ever had. How dare you? Even the creatures in the tank can't seem to get over this new invasion of greenery. They are constantly investigating the new life. All I wanted was a small plant to freshen up my tank, not a new center piece! I have absolutely no choice but to give your company 5 stars in hopes to only get you more customers who can also suffer from your ridiculous trickery and sly customer care. Thank you for your time and understanding my complaints.

Gorgeous but Ginormous
Not sure if it was a sharp plastic plant in my tank or that I didn't realize the filter in my betta's 3 gallon tank was hooked up incorrectly for almost a month (first time fish owner), but I noticed some tearing of my betta's fins. After the discovery and a whole lot of internet research, I went down a rabbit hole of purchasing a bunch of fish products so I added these to the order. So first the pros...While these are not prime eligible, they arrived within 48 hours of purchase. They were very well packaged with no leakage in the box. They were bright green and gorgeous and everything one would expect from a quality marimo ball. I even received 2 bonus marimo which is kinda awesome as well. Now my one con...and I'm probably the only person who will ever complain about you this but...they are huge. I received 8 giant marimo balls for my baby Blueberry's 3 gallon tank. I envisioned him pushing around at least one little ball...which is why I ordered the variety of sizes. The tank looks a little ridiculous now because the entire floor is covered in moss balls...and there's even one on the roof of the castle for lack of space. He seems happy so that's all that matters. Just wanted to inform potential buyers that while you should definitely buy from this company, but if you have a smaller tank you may wish to buy a smaller set of marimo.

BEAUTIFUL MARIMOS!
I've bought marimos from a lot of places and I'm pretty impressed with Aquatic Arts. These moss balls came in a nice plastic container and fluffed right up after washing them and placing them in water. Not to mention -- I received one XL one, three L, and one M! I got an extra marimo for free! Super pleased about this. I absolutely love them and will be buying marimos from Aquatic Arts again in the future :)

MUCH better than I expected...even cleared my tank!
Awesome product! I was skeptical when I first opened the container and the moss balls were so dry, but I also didn't have much knowledge to how they *should* look, so I tossed them in my tank. They floated around for a bit, puffed up and instantly got their beautiful color back, and started to sink to the bottom one by one...looking totally beautiful. Now...my cichlids cant uproot my plants, and I have that greenery I've been craving! Petsmart sells 1...ONE...ball half this size for $11. I got 4 giant and one large for just a couple dollars more? Hell yeah. *sidenote* I had just upgraded from a 45gal to a 125gal...completely new substrate, filters, and decor. It has only been up and running for a few days, and was so cloudy with micro bubbles. I had tried everything to get rid of them...nothing was working. I tossed in these babies not thinking anything about the possibility they may help clear my tank, but they did just that! In about 12 hours, my tank had cleared SO much...total bonus! Don't know why or how, but they did the trick. Totally buying more soon! (To judge size...that Oscar measures from my wrist to my elbow!)

GREAT financial deal, requires some work
This is an awesome deal for what you get! Mine arrived a nice dark healthy green and I got extras too! They were filthy dirty but for the price I don't mind doing some cleaning up myself. As the directions say, rinse, squeeze, rinse, squeeze, over and over again under running water. These things are tough! Rinse and squeeze until the water runs clear and no more sand comes out of ball. This takes awhile but is worth it to start off in a good place. I'm a house wife with a 32 year old daughter and we've both had (still have) multiple Marimos for 10+ years, done a lot of online research. Love these silly balls. Marimos grow in fresh water lakes, not rivers. They are an algae, not moss. They end up in colonies many balls deep. When happy and healthy, the balls produce air bubbles that cause them to float upwards enabling them to get from the bottom of pile to the needed filtered sunlight. Up and down they go. And with the current in the lake, it naturally turns this stringy algae into balls. Yes, in the ball form the tiny, short, hair like fibers look synthetic. They are not. Each hair does have the ability to connect to structures and grow long and stringy. I learned this the hard way by pulling one apart to attach to wood AND putting right back in aquarium. Don't do this! When in the ball form or flat form and actively growing, I've never had an issue. You have to let the algae start to grow to interlock tiny pieces again. Keep your balls rolled tight, (and I mean tight) once a month will do. If you want it on a piece of wood, do it! But to avoid a later mess, be patient. After rinsing throughly, run ur hand over it to dislodge those loose fibers, put the new algae on wood/rock/matting by itself in a separate large jar with good indirect light for a month or 2. When you're changing water and see no more hairlike lose fibers in water you're good to go. A plant with Marimo algae covering roots, all tied onto a wood piece with fishing line is gorgeous after 6 months! Isolatating and a pinch of salt can help revive browning Marimos if they're not too far gone (spots). Research online for correct amounts. Direct sunlight causes browning. Hollow centers with putrid, non circulating water in the center is a KILLER! Think about living in colonies, the weight of your other ball buddies 12" deep rolling around, you're not hollow. 10 years ago when you bought a M Ball it was solid. Now they have pumps, seriously!, to make Marimos appear bigger. Marimos grow exceedingly slow. They are a national treasure in Japan, kept as pets, passed down through family members. Love your balls! Roll them tight even if they are smaller. You'll have no putrid water inside rotting them from the inside out. They'll be funky bumpy for awhile but roll them once a month keep them tight and they will grow. Snails and other unwanted critters? No need to buy spendy specialty products or take a chance on hydrogen peroxide burning your balls. Get the dish soap out. I use Dawn, it's known to be gentle. 1tsp dish soap, 3 gallons of water, 1/2 hour soak. Squeeze the soapy mixture thoroughly through your balls and let soak for half an hour. Rinse and squeeze until no more suds. Let them rest in a jar of water for 24 hours just to make sure any left over soap is diluted. Rinse and squeeze again just to be sure before introducing into new home. Although I don't take responsibility for anyone trying this method, I've never lost a Marimo or aquatic plant yet with this method. And had no pests. Bacterial is covered too with some dish soaps. Gardeners have been using a drop of dish soap in a spray bottle to control garden pests for decades. If treating actual plants: take out of pots, discard old planting material, remove all decomposing greenery, no place to hide! Clean pot and use new planting material. And DO NOT use a tooth brush to brush debris off your balls. Again, it pulls those fibers out and apart from one another promoting the long stringy algae grows. Good luck!
