Great little terrarium for my 8yr old son!!

I bought this for my son as a Christmas gift and he loves it! He put it all together the day he got it and has been so diligent about watering it every day. He'll do that before he does anything else when he wakes up in the morning! It was fun for him to decorate as well as watch his seeds grow. We just put in a second batch of seed, so we'll see how that goes. I think what I like best is the responsibility he's learning (8yr old) from having to water it and make sure it's getting enough light.

Grows fast! Easy to do with a child and a great parent/kid activity for smaller kids.

My son and I had soo much fun doing this together!!!! He has loved seeing these things grow! They grow fast too so the kids don't have to wait for weeks and lose interest! We had growth coming in around 4-5 days and then quick growth each day beyond that so he got a kick out of seeing it growing bigger each day!!! I saved half the stuff to make it again so he can maybe be more interactive with me as he's only 5 so I did most of it while he watched. But all in all this is great!

Survive a 6 year old!

My 6 year old daughter loved this! I was worried it wouldn't grow cause after a week, nothing. Then she dumped it over. I assumed it was a goner by then, but I watered it anyways. Another week goes by and I realize there's growth! This is about 2 1/2 weeks after planting. We also did not use the grow light. Just food ol'natural sun on the windowsill.

A delightful kit for your little gardener!

Our Granddaughter was SUPER EXCITED when unwrapping this gift for her 5th Birthday! Her face lit up and she happily exclaimed: "I can catch firefly's!" And then, it was explained to her that it is a garden in a jar that you plant yourself, and it will glow in the dark at night (Stars/Moon stick-on's) and she was over-the-moon with happiness and couldn't wait to get started on planting. She carefully took each item out of it's plastic as she followed the steps her parent's read aloud to her, (and assisted at times) and she put her garden in a jar (Terrarium) together. This is a very good quality of soil, seeds, little stones, and pretty decorations. It even comes with a little plastic molded rabbit and toadstool which our granddaughter was thrilled to place in her newly planted garden! We can't wait to hear from her on how her garden is growing which should be within a week's time according to the box description. We highly recommend this kit, and will look for other similar kits for future purchase.

Great !!! Great !!! Better than Great !!!

I sent this to a special little girl named Alexa. She just got over a fight with cancer. She loves it !!!! It was delivered 7/08/15 and grew this tall 8 days later. I recommend this to all children as a very special gift.

Easy and Fun!

I gave this as a gift for my 7 year old daughter for Christmas. It was SUPER easy to set up right out of the box. It comes with a plastic jar and silver lid with star and moon cut outs on the top for ventilation. It provides everything you will need and everything is nicely packaged and labeled. It was easy: Top soil, blue-ish sand, rocks, top soil again, decorations (it comes with the small bunny and mushroom pictured), and seeds (chia and something else....). We used the little mist bottle that it came with to mist the seeds and in about 24 hours the seeds were already sprouting! Just awesome to watch! And you can decorate the outside of the jar as well, it comes with some cute little decals and glow-in-the-dark mini stars. I would highly recommend this Grow n' Glow Terrarium.

My great grand kids loved it

Bought these as a birthday present for my great grand daughters 5 and 6. They loved it. They were so excited when they put the soil ingredients in -planted the seeds and watered them and watched the terrariums in anticipation. They expected them to start growing immediately. That would have been something for the Guinness World Records. I explained the growth cycle to them, we put them in a window where they would get some sunshine and lo and behold they started seeing some sprouts. They were so excited! My guess would be that they checked on the terrariums at least a dozen times a day. But in the meantime they learned so much. Wonderful experience for all of us. The plants/grass grew so tall they were growing out of the top of the terrarium.

This was a great gift for my 5

This was a great gift for my 5.5-year old niece, but not so much for my 4 year old niece. The younger one did not seem as interested in it as the older one. The kit comes with all you need to create a terrarium and it is so fun and easy to do it with a child. I suggest to use only half of soil, sand and stones, otherwise there is less room for plants to grow. And also use few seeds, that way you can recreate terrarium later when the first harvest outgrows the jar. The seeds sprung up on a 3-4th day (just as instructions said), the jar was sitting by the window to allow sunlight though the weather was quite gloomy the whole time. Also I like that the jars are plastic and not glass. It's lighter and safer for kids to mess with. It was a great gift overall, educational and the one where kids can have a sense of ownership of their own creation.

Great gift for kids who love nature

I bought this for my five-year-old little brother and he was so smitten with this gift! He loves nature and loved putting this together himself. The instructions were easy to follow and it didn't take too long to put together. Maybe 10-15 minutes. In the weeks following he was happy he had a "job" to do as he had to water the terrarium daily with the special spray bottle included. The different plants popped up in about 2-3 weeks. Very cool!

Great little terrarium kit for kids of all ages. Recommended.

There's nothing fancy here. The plastic equivalent of a mason jar, some potting soil, some seeds. The thing is, all the hard work of making a terrarium has been done for you: - Some ventilation holes punched out of the jar lid - Seed selection made, with seeds that grow quickly and are sized well (with respect to grown size) for the terrarium - Soil and pebbles clean and bright - etc. This lets kids get down to the fun part, i.e. actually putting everything together and then watering and watching, while skipping the parts of the project that might bore them if you did this from scratch (i.e. the adult having to track down a mason jar, matching lid, and then punch holes in it with a hammer and nail, for example). The final result is attractive, the seeds in our kit grew quickly (about 24 hours in we had sprouts) and well, and it was manageable for kids, who were able to take ownership of the project and feel proud of the results. It's cheap, it looks good, it works, and it teaches something about biology/botany and something about responsibility (e.g. watering to keep the plans growing). Easy win all around at this price.
