Best grass pad for the money
**UPDATE** After using this product for several months I have realized that you have to this away after about 3-4 washes because the smell just doesn’t go away after that much time using it. So I have been ordering about 1 per month. To me it’s still worth the money due to the convenience, but I do wish they would last long than that. **Original Review** This is by far the best puppy artificial grass pad out there on the market for the money. We live on the second floor apartment and we having issues with our new Pomeranian puppy not being able to hold it long enough for me to put my shoes on, put her leash on, and take her down the stairs to go potty. This product was the answer to our prayers! We have a patio balcony and we have set it up outside for her. She started peeing on it right away. After about a week she was only peeing on the grass pad. This is well worth your money. Just an insider tip: the description says to clean with soapy water and I tried to use dish soap and it did not get rid of the oder. I tried it with a bleach and hot water solution in the bath tub and that got rid of the smell. I just ordered a second on to have a back up for when one is being cleaned.

It was used within 24 hours of initial set-up!
I could not be happier with this purchase! I have a smaller than average Pomeranian, with a bladder to match. He doesn't typically make it through the night before he has to go, and his favorite spot in our room to relieve himself was right at the foot of my husbands sink. In the interest of continuing our happy co-habitation, we searched for a quick solution. I'd researched other products like this one, both real grass and artificial turf. The real grass sounded interesting, but expensive over time ($16-20 per patch of grass to be replaced each 2-3 weeks with my size dog + $10-20 shipping cost per patch... Modestly, that's $500 per year on my 4lb dogs potty... I spend less on more important things annually.) That being said, I gave this one a shot. I had read another review that recommended combining this product with a puppy pad for easier clean up, and that's exactly what I did. Others also mentioned their pup had little interest in using it and had to coax their pet to use it by leaving them without an option to go elsewhere. This luckily wasn't my experience. All I had to do to get my little guy interested, was put it in the area of most common offense and wait. I didn't introduce it to him, or make a big deal of its arrival. I unpackaged the product, which was delivered in an enormously oversized box, added the puppy pad below both the turf and middle layer (see pictures), and placed it on the floor in front of my husband's sink. It was used within 24 hours of initial set-up! Also worth noting, we were able to move this potty to a more convenient location so that the hubby could continue hygiene as usual; the dog was unbothered and has continued using his new bathroom, even in its new location. I plan on buying another for my daughter's room because if he, for whatever reason, sleeps with her, he inevitably has the same problem there. I'm sure he'll be happy to have access to a restroom on either side of the house. And at this price, it's totally worth it. Regarding the use of the puppy pad, I purchased the Neat'n Dry pads in the size photographed. Be advised, the seller has the default listed 10-pack for the same price as the 50-pack I purchased. These fit PERFECTLY in the medium sized trainer. The stains photographed are from a couple of days use. I'll likely replace this tomorrow. I haven't noticed any odors from the turf or the pads, even after the time mentioned. I do plan to follow the maintenance care suggested by others: exchange the pad for liquid waste once 1/2 saturated (Approximately 3-5 days for my 4lb dog); remove solid waste as it occurs; and wash all components, the turf, base and middle tray once weekly with hot water and a mild solution on the plastic parts to sanitize between pad changes. I'll be updating my review as the weeks pass with this regiment to comment on the durability of the turf. Examining, it appears to be the same stuff you would purchase from any home improvement store from the bolt. If anything did happen to the grass, it seems it would be easy and inexpensive enough to replace. :)

Makes life easier for us & our dog!
This might be the best doggie "accessory" we've bought so far! We've had the Petmaker Puppy Potty Trainer for just over a month now, and it's proven absolutely invaluable for our 11-lb miniature poodle. We bought this potty -- as opposed to the many other potty options -- because it was the only one that would fit inside of a 48" crate and still leave room for a doggie bed and water bowl. When we're out, we can leave our dog in the crate and not have to worry about making her hold it too long. We also had a problem with our dog getting up in the middle of the night and pottying on the living room carpet, and this has completely solved that issue. TRAINING For training, when she started doing her "potty dance" late at night, we'd set her inside the crate and then physically block her in with our body (instead of closing the door), so she didn't feel locked in. The first several times, she'd wander around the crate confusedly, push at us with her nose in an attempt to get out, and then finally relieve herself on the potty. Each time, we'd give her a ton of praise and petting for using her potty. Initially, she really did NOT want to use the potty and used it only because she was trapped and had no other options, so we spent a lot of time sitting in front of the crate waiting for her to go (takes patience!), but the waiting time got a teensy bit shorter each time. After two weeks of doing this at night (we take her out during the day), she started wandering over towards the potty when she needed to go but she wouldn't actually use it unless we put her inside and waited for her to go. Now it's been a month and she just uses the potty when she needs to -- with ZERO accidents in the house! USAGE / CLEANING The Petmaker potty has a layer of faux grass that sits on top of a raised plastic drainage tray, and both of those fit inside a larger black tray. The grass and the drainage tray aren't "locked in" and could slide around if you push them, but this hasn't been an issue for our 11-lb dog. We put a potty pad underneath the drainage tray, which makes clean-up MUCH easier. Our dog uses the potty multiple times per week and we haven't had any issue with smell. We change the pads every 1-2 days and then clean the whole potty in the tub with a diluted bleach solution about once a week. Our dog has shown zero interest in chewing on the grass or the pad, but she isn't much of a chewer in general. PROS - Fits inside of a 48" crate with plenty of room for a doggie bed - Big enough for an 11-lb dog to sniff around / circle around / find the "right" spot - Faux grass layer is raised and drains quickly -- does not stay wet after use - No issue with smell when using potty pads + cleaning 1x per week - No more spills or misses (compared to potty pads alone) - NO MORE ACCIDENTS IN THE HOUSE! CONS - Grass does "shed" -- we're still finding stray strands all throughout the house - Grass takes a while to dry after cleaning -- we may buy a second one for use while the first is drying - Bottom tray is shallow -- if you're not using pads, it would be very easy to spill pee everywhere when emptying

Finally, a solution!
Quick Review Breakdown: Purchased MEDIUM Indoor Potty for my 63lb Akita X who is 15yo. Pros: PERFECT TRAINING MODEL - for the price and how quickly it comes, this is perfect for testing whether or not an indoor potty is right for your dog. Cons: FLIMSY TRAY - I had to put a rug under so it wouldn't move CHEAP ARTIFICIAL GRASS - I wish it was a bit "hardier", it most likely won't make it through too many cleanings Novel Review: I am professional Canine Behaviorist of 18 years, I have 3 dogs, 2 cats and I foster dogs. In all these years, I've never had a problem with indoor pottying... until now. My old girl is now 15, she has a few health issues and has to pee every couple of hours. She needs my help when going outside due to our deck stairs and the possibility of her falling, and I need better sleep than 2 hours. At least 4. 1st night: I made her "potty spot" by the backdoor, I put a bath mat down (for a more stabilized spot that won't move around) and put the potty tray on top. I lined the tray with two puppy training pee pads to help soak up any urine and placed the grass over that. On her last potty trip outside before bed, I held a paper towel under her for a moment once she started to pee, just to catch a little bit of urine & placed the paper towel under the grass on the potty spot. The first couple of nights I checked on her, making sure the potty spot was being used properly, it was! I can't tell you what a relief it is to have this! It's made my sweet girl's life so much easier, no more going out in the cold night, hurting her old hips having to go up and down those stairs over and over, she isn't stressing, panting, waiting for me to take her to potty. It's made all the difference! With that said, this was the quickest and most affordable one and it most definitely does it's job, but....it's not rocket science and there are ones that are much better quality! Now that I know this is an A+ solution, I will be making a permanent one with better materials and structure.

The best tool for potty training in an apartment
The best tool for potty training in an apartment! We put it on the balcony and it's been working great.

Great!
This is great! We live in a small apartment with balcony. We got a small puppy and needed something other than laying puppy pads all over the house. I noticed he was consistent with going in the puppy pads so once I got this grass patch, he automatically started to pee on it instead. He refuses to poop on it still but oh well, we are working on it. There's NO URINE SMELL at ALL that comes from it. I put a puppy pad between the grass and the base for super easy clean up. He pees on the grass and it goes through the grid onto the puppy pad! I rinse it down in the shower and that's that!

Great for use on an apartment patio
I live in an apartment and these were so useful! I have a 5 month old puppy who is almost potty trained now, and i use these grass mats in my patio. He loves using them, and like many other reviewers, my dog thought it was a toy he could pick up and chew or dig on. But he eventually got the hang of it. I threw some treats on them so he could get used to them at the beginning, and now he scratches and whines at the patio door when ne needs to go. I use pee mats under the grass for easy clean up since i cant get a hose or anything to an apartment patio. The smell is definitely bad when im cleaning it up, but since i use it outside its not a big deal for me. I wouldnt reccommend using it indoors because of the smell unless you clean it often. I have a small (~10lb) dog but i got 2 of the large mats. If you have an even bigger dog, you may want to consider getting more mats to make your pet more comfortable, depending on how your dog likes to pee. I think the only downside to this is that it sucks when your dogs poop is too soft to pick up. I would definitely reccommend this to people in apartments.

Laminated floor saver!!!
I used to use the regular shmegular puppy pads. I even bought a holder to make it easier for my pup to "go" in the right place. He was doing great until I got him neutered. Then everything changed! He ended up refusing to pee on the pads, and only wanting to pee outside. When I would leave for work he would have accidents since I don't think his bladder is that strong (he still pees out of excitement). I decided to give this a try since I didn't want to deal with constantly ordering a fresh patch every other week due to the maintenance and cost. So as usual I come home to a mess, which I cleaned up and ended up using the soiled paper towels under the piece of "grass". When it was time to go, I walked him over and TAH-DAH! like magic he sure peed on the "grass". I continued to train him to pee there using treats and praise and I've had to make sure he goes on his own without the leash and sure enough he has finally realized that this is an acceptable place to relieve himself. It definitely takes some training but with patience and consistency I do believe it will work for most dogs. Based on the reviews, I also put a puppy pad at the very bottom of the tray and it definitely makes cleaning up a lot easier!

Good for times when you can't get back to let your puppy out
This is great for keeping the house clean when you cant be there to let the puppy out. Everyone said to not use puppy pads but if we are gone for a few hours we can't expect our puppy (13 weeks old) to hold it. He was peeing on the hardwood floor but now he can use this while we aren't home. Initially, I went outside and rubbed the mat around in the grass and after he would go outside I would rub the mat on his urine so he would smell it. Now he uses it while we are gone instead of going on the floor. The only "issue" I've had is he does not like to pee AND poop on the pad. I use this pad for pee and lay another pad down right next to it in case he has to poop. So far it's worked great and he will still go outside when we let him out.

was skeptical but it seems working
was skeptical as it looked fake to me and i though even a puppy would knew. my 13 weeks old bulldog has been using one entire floor of the house as her potty when i gave up locking him in cage when nobody is home. i couldn't deal with the stepped over poo on dog etc mess. i would rather carpet shampoo the entire house. I put potty pads all over places she had "gone" to and sometimes she did it on those - it was just random probability i concluded. Anyway, i got this yesterday and she was left alone all day today. i found a poop and two marks of urine (i put potty training pad underneath). i concluded this has a higher probability than random. so i am planning to reinforce it and get another "grass pad" so that i can wash and dry under sun, while the other is serving. hope smell doesnt become a part of the house and we dont realize it. Update. No more potty on floor! It took a week to train the bulldog puppy. The problem is she pees on it even when the dog door is available! I am planning to put it outside when I am around.
