Great hay! SO much better and so much cheaper than the uber-packaged $$$ stuff you get at the pet store! I could get hay locally but it's generally sold by the bale - I don't have room for that. I ordered the 20-pound box and it arrived well packaged and quickly. The hay itself looks and smells fantastic, it takes me back to haying when I was a kid (minus the sunstroke). My guinea pigs love the stuff, they go through a rack and a half a day and I can hardly keep up with them! My only criticisms would be how tightly the box is packed, I quickly learned not to open it indoors, and that some of the hay is really long so it's tough to squish into the hay rack for their cage. Overall, though, very minor inconveniences for such a quality product. Will definitely be buying this regularly.

I'm on my 3rd box and it has all been fresh and green, very little waste even with my somewhat picky rabbit. It's less dusty than when I buy it in bags from the pet store and the cardboard box works well for storage - it's easy to open and close and sturdy enough to keep it clean and contained (rabbit has yet to break in before the hay is used up). 2nd cut hay is fairly firm but not as coarse as first cut. If your pet likes really soft hay you probably want to find 3rd cut, but it's not as common. Also in case anyone else is wondering, the 5, 8, 10 lb boxes are all the same size (about 24 x 16 x 7 inches). After I started with a 5lb box I was nervous I wouldn't have anywhere to put the larger sizes but all came in the same box, just packed in tighter.

My rabbit previously didn't care too much for hay. I was buying the cheap stuff at Petco and she never chewed it much. It is important for rabbits to eat hay to file down their teeth, otherwise a veterinarian has to do and I definitely don't want to pay for a vet visit when she could just eat more hay. It's ridiculously hard to get my rabbit to eat anything but bananas and carpet. (Neither of those things are good for her) But since I received this hay, she has about doubled the amount she used to eat. The hay "strands" (Not sure what the actual term is) are long and easy for my bunny to chew. The shorter strands I just use to line her litter box and put in boxes for toys. She actually gets excited when I open the box of hay to put more in her pen. The box itself is actually really durable and great for storing the hay. It's been a month and I still have a lot left. Probably enough for another couple of months. On a separate note: The box arrives with the words "Timothy Hay" and "Small Pet" on the box. Just a word of caution. I had some explaining to do to my landlord when she saw the box on my porch.

We have been buying this hay for over 3 years now. We had two bunnies (but now only one :-( ) and they absolutely adore this hay. It has always come smelling very fresh and high quality. The fresh hay smell seems to last the whole way through the box - we open only to give fresh hay each night. Each night, Jonesy waits patiently in his litter box for me to put out his fresh hay and then he pounces right in. I think that over the years we've only had a few boxes that came with some brown, but that was a while ago and in the middle of summer. A 'bunny sitter' turned us (and our buns) on to this hay years ago, and after that, we simply cannot go back to regular pet store or Oxbow timothy hay. A small amount of seed heads, but totally within reason. What's also nice about the big sturdy box is that the buns can't chew into or open it on their own. (Although we have caught them picking stray bits out of the box.) If my husband didn't have such strong allergies, I'd try to reuse the boxes for something else!

This is sooo much better then I could have imagined! It arrived exactly when it was supposed to & was boxed great, I could smell the hay right off & my Otis Bunz Bogart could to, he was sleeping & all of a sudden popped out from his box sniffed the box of hay & dove into:) he was so happy he was even doing binkis in the box on top of the hay:) I see no dust looking stuff only long & I mean long beautiful pieces of hay! I will NEVER buy the other nasty so called hay from other stores again! Besides I've done the math & this hay actually comes out $2 cheaper if you do it monthly! How can you beat that? My Otis deserves the best & hes going crazy for this stuff so this is what he will get (not spoiled or anything;) THANK YOU VERY MUCH SMALL PET SELECT!! Ps. He also likes the box, he's rubbing that chin all over it assuring everyone knows it's ALL HIS;)

Fresh, green, clean, dry hay!! Our guinea pigs love it!! It came shipped in a sturdy cardboard box. We have nothing but praise for this small company and their product!! However, hay in general can be extremely messy. I found one great tip online that has helped us tremendously, so I thought I would pass it along. When my box of hay comes, I take it outside or in the garage, and I stuff handfuls of the hay into brown paper lunch bags. One box of hay = 30+ lunch bag portions. Then when it is time to feed the piggies, I just stick an open bag of hay in their cage. They love crawling into the bags to find their hay. This has SIGNIFICANTLY reduced the amount of hay that used to get all over our floor. Also, we used to think that possibly my son was allergic to the guinea pigs. Turns out, he is allergic to the hay, not the gp's. Keeping the hay in bags also really reduces the amount of dust and allergens in the air. In addition, we always have a good idea of when we need to reorder hay because we can see how many bag we have left and we know about how long it takes for our 2 guinea pigs to go through a bag.

I'm no expert regarding timothy hay, but my 2 guinea pigs, Jayne Cobb and Kaylee Frye, are huge fans of Small Pet Select 2nd Cutting Timothy Hay. They get extremely excited when they hear me or my wife open the box each day to refill their hay supply. We also use the Small Pet Select pellets as well and being able to get these supplies shipped to us in 10 lb or greater size bags is extremely convenient. Shipping is always speedy and I have had nothing but positive experiences with this company so far. Thanks Small Pet Select! Sincerely, Jayne Cobb and Kaylee Frye.

My guinea pigs LOVED this second cutting Timothy Hay. They get excited, chirp and dance when we open the box. Even our cat tries to eat it. We tried this after the Kaytee brand. They would not eat the Kaytee brand, which I later found out was a 1st cutting. They used 2/3 of the Kaytee Hay as bedding. This Small Pet Select 2nd Cutting Timothy Hay gets almost completely eaten. If you do the math with 2/3 waste factor, this brand is cheaper, and likely much healthier.

Just received this product. It came a day early which came in very handy for me. I was almost out and was worried I'd have to buy something local to get us through until tomorrow. I was impressed when I opened the box. The hay has a very good smell which attracted my baby bunnies immediately. They have never reacted like that to any other brand I purchased. They proceeded to ignore their pellets in favor of the hay. With all other brands I've bought they will eat all of their daily pellets first and then switch to the hay. I think I've found a winner here. This hay is a little dryer than the others I've gotten but from most of the research I've done that is a good thing because rabbits need as much chewing time with their food as they can get to keep their teeth ground to a proper length or it can cause dental problems. I'm pretty sure I'm gonna stick with this hay as long as the quality stays the same.

I love the convenience of ordering this excellent timothy hay. The 12 pound box lasts our 2 female piggies about 3 months and I think it stays fresh that whole time. When first opened, the hay box smells a bit fishy...but that goes away after a day or so. The hay appears to be laid in the box in layers: some with more of the grainy heads and stalks and some with more of the leafy strands. This ensures a good mix of everything as you work your way down through the box. There is only a small quantity of "dregs" left at the end - the dusty shreds our piggies won't to eat. Overall, I think this hay is high quality. Our piggies don't eat ALL the hay we put in their bowl every day (they spread some if the tough straw around on their bedding), but I just dump the leftovers into their bedding and refill. It smells great and is easy to scoop out with the soiled bedding.
