Excellent Wifi Modem Router. Works excellently on Xfinity.
I am writing this review for NETGEAR N600 WiFi DOCSIS 3.0 Cable Modem. I purchased this Modem wifi router as a replacement to Xfinity Wireless gateway. Xfinity was charging a 10$ rental for their modem. Purchasing this one help me cut that cost. I am writing this review for helping someone who is interested in Buying a Modem router. I dont like reading long essays. So I think who would be skimming through reviews also wont like. So lets see why I would like to recommend this device to my friends :- 1. Price : Its well below the price i had to pay to Xfinity for their device. Its costs 10$ monthly to rent out else buyout is 200$. 2. Purpose : I get 60 MBps almost constant. I am more than happy . My ISP has a top speed of 75 MBps. The only CAVEAT is you need to be on 5GHZ band. Some Things I would love if Improved on :- 1. 2.4 GHz range is very good but speed is low. 5GHz range is less but speed is the best. there should be some way to increase the range in the higher band.

I'll keep my 10 bucks, thank you.
Like many people, there comes a time in our lives when we take a long look at what we're spending our money on, and wondering how we can be smarter with our money. One of the not-so-obvious ways is examining your internet bill, and letting your eyes linger on that $10 modem lease fee. So, yeah, realizing that if I purchase the modem outright, I could save money before the end of my first year. After much research, I came across this baby. Setup was pretty easy with Comcast. I actually had to call the support for them to release my address for use, but since then I haven't had to bother with talking to another human being. I'm not going to get into the technical aspects of this product, just that I have at least 3 devices connected at any given time, and have never noticed a slow-down in my connection. I'm living in a 1300 sq ft apartment, and at the 5 GHz setting, I don't have a problem with connections. My smart tv and video game systems are hard connected to the router, and I haven't had any complaints there (other than I wish it had more ethernet ports). One small complaint I do have with this product, though, is that every time I turn off the usb hard drive that I have connected to router, I have to reset it in order for connected devices to recognize it. It may just be the hard drive that I'm using (a 1TB Western Digital), but I figured it was worth mentioning. Bottom line is that I actually feel like this is one product that I have a hard time NOT recommending to friends and family, trying to get them to see how easy it is to save the $10 per month, with this one-time investment.

EXCELLENT Product as always from NETGEAR!
Upon reading several reviews regarding this product, I was fairly confident on this purchase. First off I am very computer literate, I went to school for IT and have been an avid computer guy since the 80's! and 2nd a huge Netgear fan boy! Well, not really, just that for ALL my networking needs I've only gone with Netgear! When I read the 1 star reviews, at first I was very weary of purchasing this product. However, the one thing I did see regard ALL the one star, is Netgear's customer service as actually replying to every single one star review to contact them! Awesome! Besides the fact that I'm pretty sure the one star reviewers didn't know what they were doing, sorry! Well anyway, this cable modem with an EXCELLENT product for you cable modem only needs! I couldn't be happier with it's performance tagged teamed up with my NETGEAR Smart AC1750 wireless router! I couldn't be happier! For those who ARE interested in the AC1750 router, and have yet to purchase this Cable modem! PLEASE STOP. do not buy this modem! ONLY because, Netgear makes a AC 1750 cable modem router for a very reasonable price!

Easy to set up, reliable, fast.
This modem router combo was very easy to set up. It supports both 2.4 GB and 5 GB, on separate networks, so I can let lower priority devices access on the slower wifi, while other devices get the 5G treatment. Very easy to set up a guest network if you want, and the device has many options available with regard to encryption options and advertising or broadcasting the SSID. Good stuff. My internet provider asked that I install this modem/router so he could try channel bonding on his side. I'm currently getting about 180 MB of bandwidth all the time. And in my neck of the woods that is a hundred times faster than many of my neighbors. Or as we sometimes say at work, it just works, use it.

2.4Ghz vs. 5Ghz... SPEED & DISTANCE TEST
Just got it two weeks ago and this Wifi Modem has worked great so far. BTW, you do have to choose which band you want to use at any given time. I don't think both bands (2.4Ghz and 5Ghz) can work on a device at once. If they can, then I haven't figured out how to do that. I know many of you are wondering about the whole 2.4Ghz vs. 5Ghz dual band thing, so I did some tests for speed and distance. Setting: I am in an apartment building in a major city and pick up 15-30 different wifi signals from neighbors. The Modem is in a living room coat closet on the top shelf. It's about 20 feet away and has to go thru 3 walls to get to my office room. Here are the speed results from my many tests: Results on desktop iMac 2.4Ghz: 20-40 Mbps 5Ghz: 50-58 Mbps ----- Results on iPhone 6 in same location: 2.4Ghz: 2-25 Mbps (sometimes it slows with inconsistent data flow) 5Ghz: 30-55 Mbps (generally very consistent data flow) Results on iPhone 6 standing ONE FOOT from modem with no walls in between: 2.4Ghz: 40Mbps 5Ghz 55-59 Mbps -------- Upload is generally consistent on all devices and distances at around 5-6Mbps, but occasionally slows when there is spotty data flow on 2.4Ghz. -------- Those were my results and I hope they help some of you :)

Works well, paying itself off
Like many others, I bought this to avoid the router/modem lease fee by my ISP. Router setup was easy with XFINITY, though I had to call Comcast to fix a problem with the coax cable connection in my apartment (unrelated to the device). It's been smooth sailing for the last 6 months and I've had no real issues. Tech stuff: I am a programmer and I've dabbled with hosting web pages from my home internet. Unfortunately I have a dynamic IP and I believe I'd need to contact my ISP to change this because setting a static IP through the modem config doesn't work after some amount of time. I've also tried updating the DNS server IP addresses manually and all DNS fails after some amount of time (like a couple days). I haven't been able to easily name devices to connect to them that way. I haven't spent too much time on getting any of this working though. NAT'ing public facing ports to devices works well. Anyways I've also tested NAS and that worked plugging in an external hard drive right to the router (though I've only tried it once). I also have a Raspberry Pi 1B plugged into the router with both an Ethernet cable and USB (for power) and that is reliable. I haven't tested PoE.

Great alternative to Time Warner provided rental box. Saves money long term.
I purchased this as an alternative to renting one from Time Warner. I did not like the idea of having to buy both a modem and a router and was looking for an affordable two in one solution. This was the answer to my predicament. Despite being cautioned against not using the Time Warner supplied product (of course they wanted my $10 additional per month), I have had no problems using it. My iPhone, MacBook Pro and iPad, are all connected to it so I can say that the interface it uses is definitely very Mac friendly. In addition, my Canon wireless printer and two TVs (which use Firestick and Roku to access Netflix, Hulu, HBOgo, Amazon Prime and Sling) are also all connected to it at the same time. Sometimes I am streaming content on both TVs, working on my computer and using my phone or iPad simultaneously. The network never seems to slow or overload. I also live in a two story townhouse. The device is set up downstairs because that is where my cable comes in. The installer said that despite most of what I was using it for would be done upstairs, it was better to keep it downstairs because the signal has an easier time traveling up than down. I believe he was right because I have not had any problem getting wifi upstairs. I also do a lot of computer work outside on my patio and have had no issues with the signal getting past the think outer walls even when the sliding glass door to the patio is closed.

Drop your comcast modem
This arrived today. I'm on a 60mbps plan with Comcast Xfinity. I ran a speed test before changing out the modem. 31 down/ 12.12 up. 31 is great for what I'm used to. I mostly get 22-28 down. I called comcast to add the modem and was transferred...then cut off. Called again and went through the menu...then cut off. You know, the standard, awful comcast experience. If I had another option, believe me, I'd take it. What an awful company. But I digress... I plugged it in, plugged in the router, and pulled up comcast.com instead and was able to activate it from the wifi router. It did require me to reset the new modem. Speed test afterward....59+ down/ 6.10 up. I ran it a few times and I see I've lost some upload speed. But still, I've had two of comcast's new modems and have never seen anywhere near these speeds. What kind of racket are they running there anyway? You pay for more and you get some sort of bottle-necked modem. Maybe it's worth filing a complaint with the FCC. Anyway, get rid of your comcast modem, drop the rental fee, and get the speeds you should be getting with this.

Pays for itself!
I have Comcast for wifi only, and I was trying to get rid of their modem so I could get out of the monthly modem rental fee. I don't have cable - all of my "tv" watching is from streaming or an antenna that I have to pick up a couple local channels for the news. So good wifi is extremely important in my house. I plugged this in on Saturday, easily activated it with Comcast following only the directions in the box, and even changed the wifi name/password within 15 minutes. I have a 1200 square feet 2-story townhouse and the router sits at the very back left corner of the first floor. I have a smart tv upstairs in the front of the house, and after plugging this in I went upstairs to stream an episode of Friends on Netflix to test the power. I didn't have a single glitch. This works great for me and will pay for itself in 9 months!

Only regret having waited to buy!!!
I watched this item for over a year; the price was always around $100 to $110. I was spurred into buying when the price dropped to nearly $80 and so I jumped on it with some remaining reluctance, because of insecurities about compatibility and performance. What a FOOL I had been!!! I have Xfinity/Comcast and have rented THEIR equipment for almost two years at $10/month. I just agreed to another contract extension for an additional two years. If you care to do the math; it is an absolute no brainer when it comes to costs. Performance: WOW, further range than the one I'd been renting and only half the size. Ethernet speed performance test with Ookla showed no difference. Compatibility: after hook up (which took ten minutes barely) Xfinity came on screen to verify my account (be sure to have Comcast email address and password ready) and BAMMM. Done. I will say in another way; I wish I had not waited for a sale or discount.
