Nubee Infrared Thermometer.
Came on time and in new condition. I have only used it on the freezer, refrigerator and for room temp. Since my refrigerator, freezer, and house all have digital thermometer readouts, it's easy to compare. So far everything is within a degree or less. Have not checked the settings for different reflectivity/surfaces yet. I'll continue to compare in the next week or so when I go to do some insulation, etc. If anything changes I'll attempt to update my review, which I haven't had any success in doing using my iPhone; a tree branch hit a power line causing a surge and blew-up my PC and iMac :/ One person commented that thier unit was 30 degrees or more off. I wonder if that person forgot to change from Centigrade to Fahrenheit?

Works great. I use it while cooking to make sure I don't go over the smoke point of the cooking oil I'm using. Important thing to keep in mind is that the temperature displayed is dependent on the emissivity of the material you're pointing it at. So pointing it at an empty/clean but hot frying pan will yield a lower temperature reading than the same pan with even a thin layer of cooking oil. That's why you can (and should) adjust the emissivity setting on this thermometer based on the chart provided with it (or look up values online) depending on the material you are trying to measure the temperature of. The default 0.95 setting works well for water and most cooking applications.

Very happy with this product!
Works great! Easy to use, very readable and pretty darn accurate. I compared it to the temperature a more expensive digital probe thermometer was giving and it was only off by half a degree. Being that close I'm very happy with it because it's possible the probe thermometer could be off as well. For what I'm using it for that little difference isn't going to effect anything. Amazed by the quality for the great price I paid. 5 stars!

since I already owned this very same model - I do believe that this was the best one of the several I picked up for him
Another item that I purchased to be a Christmas present to my son, since I already owned this very same model - I do believe that this was the best one of the several I picked up for him, since no sooner than he opened up the package, he exclaimed that he had recently thought about buying one and proceeded to run around the house "taking temperature readings"! While this is not a "must have" item, it does have its uses AND despite the most reasonable price for this model it does "do the job," even if not anything "professional"! At the least, it IS a "fun item" and I endorse it without hesitation or reservations! Enjoy!

Your food will taste better.
These use to be so expensive, at these prices I have no idea why everyone doesn't own one. Here is just a short list of what I use this for. Check the temperature of my oil when I deep fry. Is my pan pre-heated enough (Leidenfrost effect)? The laser works in both my cast iron and stainless pans. Am I going to burn myself if I touch the handle of my cast iron? Is my cooling custard ready to go into the ice cream machine? Temperature of water before I add it to bread dough. Is my food done cooking? What's the temperature in various rooms of my apartment? I've checked the temperature of my heated pet beds. This goes up to a 1000 degrees, I've measured my hated electric coils on my stove. This sits right next to my stove and use it half a dozen times a day. I was able to throw away my nonstick skillets after buying this, because I was finally able to bring my skillets up to the right temperature to prevent sticking. Since I would buy a new teflon skillet every other year this thing basically pays for itself. Find out the smoke points of all the oils that you like to cook with, and use this niffy tool to bring your pans right up to that temperature. You'll see which pans are garbage because the middle of your pan will say 400, and three inches away it will say 200. You'll be cooking like a professional in no time.

What a help to know what temp is.
I got a new glass cook top. The numbers on the heat control seemed low. This lets me check the skillet or pot temps quickly and accurately. Turns out at number 5 out of 10 is 350 degrees. Number 7 is 450 degrees. No wonder I was burning at number 6 everything I cooked.

Awesome tool and toy.
I picked this up on a discount for $14, and it has been fantastic. As a new home owner its really hand to check for major air leaks around the house windows/doors. Its useful in a kitchen to know if a pan is up to temp and even. I found that 1 of my burners was slanted and un-evenly heating a pan with this thing. Another use was my wife wanted to store something in our garage, a quick use of this showed it was 20degrees F, below freezing, and therefore not a good place for her item. Its also a good amount of fun to toy with. Friends have gotten a kick out of checking forehead temp, vs in the mouth temp. LED light bulb temp, vs old light bulb temp (100 vs 350 F) ect. If nothing else, it serves as a better laser pointer for playing with the cat. If you are after a accurate thermometer, this probably isn't for you. At a range of like 10 feet, it is measuring an area something like a 6 inch circle.(it gives directions on range/accuracy). So if you are trying to measure a small area from any range, its not going to work well. But if you want to know how hot it is by your fireplace? - awesome tool and toy.

Not the best, but pretty good for the price!
As others have said, not the BEST or most accurate, but it's more than adequate for the price! Used this for Kydex forming (making a pistol holster) and it's worked just fine for that purpose! No complaints so far, will update review if any issues.

Fairly Accurate And Inexpensive
I have always wanted one of these and was skeptical when I saw this one for 12 bucks on Amazon. But that price proved hard for me to resist. I have a few things around the house that I wanted to use a non-contact thermometer for. For example, I have a betta fish and have to do fairly frequent water changes. I had heard that these infrared thermometers work fine on fluid. Obviously, I don't want to use my digital cooking thermometer on fish water. Or if I do, I have to remember to sanitize it before using it on food again. Occasionally when I cook I wouldn't mind having something like this to use to see what temps I'm getting on the pan and so forth. And it's just a handy thing to have around if you can get one that's reasonably accurate for a good price. I played with it for several hours when I first got it and I have found it to be reasonably accurate and surprisingly decent quality for the price. I don't really think most of it's shortcomings are related to it's low price. For example, it doesn't do well with shiny metal because infrared thermometers typically don't do well with shiny metal. It's a shortcoming of the design. There are probably infrared thermometers that can do it better than this one can but I doubt you can buy any of them for under 30 dollars. So....it's reasonably accurate for most things. It's usually more accurate the closer you are. The real advantage to these thermometers is no contact is necessary. You really probably shouldn't expect great things if you're farther away from something than a couple of feet. You can get a ballpark reading from across the room but it will get more accurate as you get closer to the spot you're trying to measure. The laser pointer is a general guide but the cone gets larger the farther away you are. So if you point it at a window from 10 feet away, you'll probably get something like an average temp in the general area of the window. Which is kind of useful, in some situations. If you want a precise temperature of the window sill, you need to be much closer. Anyway, I'm more than happy with it for the price. I bought this for general household use so I was not going to spend much more than I did for a similar product. You can certainly spend a lot more on a product such as this and probably get better accuracy if you need it for work or you need it to be absolutely accurate. I have two small cons.... 1. The emissivity setting is tedious to change. You have to press the button for each change. You can't just hold it down. It won't move unless you release the button and push it each time you want to make a change. Annoying. 2. The connector for the battery feels a bit flimsy. It's the old 9 volt battery on a wire thing. If anything is gonna go wrong with this thing it will probably be that. Overall, the product does not feel cheap. It doesn't have a bad smell like you sometimes get with cheap electronics. The plastic is thick and doesn't feel like it'd break easily or be brittle. The screen is nicer than I'd have honestly expected for this price. Nice and easy to read. It kind of has a narrow field of readability so if it's turned too far, it gets washed out but that's not a big deal to me. From relatively straight on, it's very good. For this review. I confirmed my readings with a Taylor digital kitchen thermometer and other digital thermometers I have around the house that measure ambient temps. I would not expect absolutely perfect accuracy from anything that wasn't designed for use in professional science. You would definitely pay more. Maybe not a lot more (this is the only one I've tried) but more than 12 bucks.

Scifi utility must have
This thing rules. As an 80s baby I immediately found use for this thing besides my initial intent... fridge? Check. Oven/food? Check. Dog? Check. Guinea pig? Yep. Rats? Why not. Girlfriend? Pew pew yep still hot. For 10 bux you get the coolest laser pointer you could want, a light up blue screen, you can pretend you are in aliens and make lil blip noises as you check the temp across the room, or your dogs butt, bc why not? I hope this thing isnt giving us all cancer... Oh and if you want your dabs at that perfect temp, it gives you fairly acurate readings.
