Good for beach hunts
For not living near a beach I found no desire to buy the expensive metal scoop with handle. I bought this for my one trip a year and it worked great. I dug over a hundred holes quickly. I also ended up with a two ring day! For the harder packed wet sand I pushed the edge down into the sand and stepped onto the back end. That being said this is durable. I would NOT recommend lifting with the handle in the hard stuff. Rather, just pull up from the top of the mouth. Nothing bad happened it just "seemed" as if the handle would bend.

a great product - for many uses
This has been a blessing as I metal detect is shallow waters (streams, creeks, lakes, etc. I was chagrined when I found my granddaughter sifting through the kitty litter box with it. She looked up at me and said, "Look, grampa, I'm metal teetecting. Wife thought it was a hoot. I was speechless. Even the little ones recognize it's worth I guess. But overall, a great product - for many uses.

very nice scoop for sand
I mounted a cup magnet in the bottom with a stainless bolt and lockwasher, even if we are nowhere near saltwater. It has helped on several freshwater beaches hold those terrible bottle caps back when I dump the gravel out. The scoop is light enough so it doesn't weigh me down either, and easy to clean up!

Gold Doubloon's I'm comming for you
lightweight, plastic, and easily carried, very functional to the hobby. good size openings to release the sand. Now all I have to find is the expensive coins, rings and jewelry and other treasures that await those who have patience. easily cleaned and almost indestructible. scoop is quite adequate in volume scooped so fewer times spent bending over. A good scoop for the trade.

Great Product!! Perfectly simple design.
I could not grow grass in a certain section of my front yard. I found out why when I dug down a little deeper and found an old bed of pebbles from what was probably at one time a rock bed. I used the scoop to sort out all of the pebbles and now the ground is ready for seeding. Great price is just a bonus.

Sturdy and functional
Surprisingly sturdy plastic construction, easy to use for a toddler OR adult - our daughter uses it to "help" her dad metal detect, then he uses it for real to make sure she didn't miss anything... The handle is sturdy and the scoop holds an entire scoopful of wet sand without feeling like it's about to fall apart...

Not retired.....yet
This is a nice little shaker compared to my hand made tools or other tools I have purchased. It is small and it sounds kind of strange but is kind of soft andnice to work and with it being plastic it is not sharp and handles well....certainly it makes no sense at all to most, but I like the tool a lot more than the others I have played with. Note--Not to knock going to the shops where they do really know there products and what they are selling but boy you can find some better "deals" if you will shop and look around, beyond a sand scoop. I have bought a few of these before (I guess spares now)....and spent much more money, but look at all your options before you buy. Not to be cheap, because I am, but hook this to a broomstick and a hoseclamp and I can use this with my other underwater equipment in the surf or lake and not buy the $120.00 unit at the shop. Does the same thing I suppose and I can remove the stick and use it anywhere I want. land or water. I suppose you remove some "cool" look from the big treasure find then but at least I think would recover, I hope. Gads getting corny now, nice tool in your hand, sift hole size is right and I think you could use it for many applications if you are creative, possibly beyond treasures even. Shop around, lots of cool stuff, know what you want and find it. This is a nice unit though and I am glad I purchased it, it works the best of all I have found.....so far. Marc Rickert

Loved it for shell searching at the beach!
Purchased this item before a weeklong beach vacation. We love to search for shells in the water, but tend to find that beach nets aren't strong enough to cut into the wet sand and lift anything out that's more than an inch or two under the surface. That is not the case with this item. The plastic is very strong and it held up well. Digging deep into the wet sand under the gulf did not compromise the integrity of the item. This served its purpose very well. Probably the only thing I wasn't 100% crazy about was the size of the holes. They aren't really large, per se, but depending on what you're sifting or scooping, one might consider them to be large. I'd like the option to purchase in various sizes as far as the holes are concerned.

Great little light weight scoop that's much tougher than you would think
This doesn't seem like it would be as durable as the metal sand scoops, but this thing is tough! I have really cranked on it using it as a digger getting deep a couple of times, and it handles it just fine. One really nice thing about it is the metal detector doesn't react to it, so when you are trying to find your object, you can just wave it over the detector coil and see if it's in the the scoop yet. That's a real time saver. I don't do a lot of beach detecting, but this is so small and light, I just keep it in the trunk of the car all the time, just in case. The kids have used it at the beach just to play with too, and it's still in perfect shape.

Works fine.
It works fine in soft sand. Small bits of aluminum slag from campfires pass right through the holes, but that's a pretty good indication the 'find' isn't worth anything. I suppose a diamond would slip right through too, but not a diamond ring. :) Also, not being metal, I can use the pinpointer or detector to see if the find is still in it.
