PetAmor Plus An Excellent Alternative to Frontline Plus, which just lost its Exclusive Patent Protection!
I noticed that there are quite a few unfairly negative reviews lately of this product (for dogs and cats), complaining that the product makes the animal sick. This is ridiculous. The product has the same active ingredients as Frontline Plus, which has been selling for more than $10/dose for years! The patents have finally expired and thank goodness competition has moved in to bring relief to pet owners. Check out this recent Consumer Reports article review (excerpt), and don't believe the defamatory reviews posted by scared retailers and vets. "Reviewed: August 2011 August 2011 issue cover This article appeared in August 2011 Consumer Reports Magazine. The big news on the flea and tick front is that the patent has expired on fipronil, one of the active ingredients in Frontline Plus, a leading brand, opening up the market to competitors. In May we found two that were new to the market, Sentry FiproGuard Plus at Petco and PetArmor Plus at Walmart. The savings can be sizable. PetArmor Plus was the best deal we saw: A three-month supply cost $28, compared with $50 for FiproGuard Plus and $62 for Frontline Plus at Petco. When you choose a flea treatment, keep in mind the importance of killing not just adult fleas but also the eggs or larvae, suggests Mike Merchant, Ph.D., a professor and entomologist at the Texas AgriLife Research & Extension Service at Dallas. Insecticides containing S-methoprene, for example, cause fleas to lay sterile eggs and disrupt the larval flea's ability to develop properly. S-methoprene is found in Frontline Plus as well as FiproGuard Plus and PetArmor Plus. "

Works perfectly, but watch where you apply!
Worked perfect for my 4 cats when the new kitten brought fleas in. I will say that I may not have put it up high enough on the shoulders (despite being a pet owner for over 20 years and having applied these things before to old pets years ago) and 2 of the cats were able to get a lick and immediately freaked out and began foaming at the mouth. No reaction from the 2 cats that didn't lick it. I was afraid to use this because of the other reviews talking about foaming at the mouth, but it was my fault that happened and they were fine within minutes after. No reactions of any of the cats after that immediate thing. I was also worried about them licking each other and having a reaction so I applied it in the early morning and watched them closely that day because I have no way of separating them. But, like I said, it worked perfectly for the fleas. Haven't seen one since the day after application and it's been almost 2 months. Didn't have to treat the house, just vacuumed and all is well now. I hated using chemicals on them but this should be a one time thing and it definitely works.

Cost effective solution
Let's face it, life is great, but there are always a few bugs thrown in, so it is nice to find relief when needed. It also helps to be realistic in expectations. I live in a small space, with 8 indoor cats, in the woods... in Florida... and have raccoons and possums and armadillo and deer visiting regularly, so you get the picture. Haven't had a flea episode in some time, but when Spring started the nightmare began. Now it is end of August and I dare to say the episode is over. I am not going to tell you that this product is the reason why, but it was superior to other control products I used, and the price is right, which is why I am rating 5 stars.

a good and effective buy
Since we own 9 cats, yes 9, it's a large number I know. I needed to find the most effective medicine that had the most reasonable costs for the summer flea & tick season. I bought 3 packs and after applying, we haven't seen the cats come in with fleas or scratch themselves as much as they did without the treatment. This is a lot more reasonable to buy than the other leading brands such as Frontline & Frontline Plus. They do make a Plus version of PetArmor, but it's a little more expensive than their basic version such as this one. Our cats are indoor and outdoor pets, we take them outside for fresh air and to let them romp around in the backyard under careful supervision. We also live near a stretch of woods right across the street which have deer in them. So far, I haven't seen one deer tick on any of them since we put this stuff on! Just follow the instructions and make sure you know the proper weight of your pet to make the maximum number of dosage effective. Some cats that have a higher weight constitution will need the other one specially designed for larger breeds. I feel that if I just keep up on reapplying this medicine every month when it's needed, my animals shouldn't have any flea or tick problems this year. It's up to the owner to make sure their animal is safe and has a way to resist the fleas since cats can't protect themselves from them. All in all, a good and effective buy. One cat had a slight reaction to the medicine where he was foaming at the mouth a little, but it cleared away in less than an hour and after that, he was perfectly fine and normal again. Cooper has always had a sensitive stomach, so just keep an eye on your cat after applying the medicine to see if they have any reaction to it just in case a vet visit is needed. :)

Great Product
I have 3 cats, all very different. This worked on all of them! I will definitely purchase again. This is the generic version of Advantage. I couldn't tell the difference in effectiveness. The applicator is not as convenient as Advantage. Just be aware of how it works before you apply it to your cat. I think I will have my hubby hold the cat just to make sure that the product is applied perfectly. I definitely recommend PetAmour. I was impressed!

Works well on our highly allergic cat.
My cat is highly allergic to flea and tick bites and gets terribly itchy dermatitis that he needs a course of steroids to get over. His poor pink belly was licked raw. No trouble now that I keep him protected from that first bite. He is an outdoor cat, or in and out when he feels like it and we have lots of woods etc here in Maine, with notorious ticks. No troubles. We winter on the west coast of Puerto Rico and he is with other cats,... he brings home other strays and shares his food and us with them. No troubles. Well worth the price and far less expensive than some. We do use it monthly, since he is so allergic.

I felt like I wanted to just leave
I found out my cat had fleas in April, and after countless hours and chemicals and treatments I couldn’t get rid of the darn things!! I felt like I wanted to just leave, so frustrating. (My cat has an allergy to fleas so even 1 bite will give her scabs on her back) Prior to this I was using Frontline, purchased from Walmart on my cat and with a combo of daily flea combing, I would still find several on her ever day. I switched to Pet Armor & Pet Armor FASTCAPS and the problem has completely disappeared. I still use the flea comb about every 2 weeks... just to be sure but this last run through I have not found anything ! So exciting.

Great flea and tick control option
I love this product because it works great in keeping fleas and ticks off my 10 pound cat and it doesn't break the bank. I apply it every month with no side effects. We live in a rural, wooded area and our cat is outside 4 to 8 hours a day. He gets the occasional tick just from being in the woods but without treatment he would surley be covered up with parasites. So, regardless of the negative reviews, it works well for me.

No ticks since we started using it!
5 stars from the human, 0 stars from the cats. We live in a tick infested, wooded area, and were seeing ticks on a quite regular basis. After plucking one off one of our cats, I decided to treat them more diligently. I haven't seen a tick on the cats since! Unfortunately, the same can't be said for me! Oh well, I caught the Lyme disease soon enough to treat. Now they need to make one that I can rub on my neck! The cats have been using this treatment for 3 months, spending every day frolicking through tick infested woods, and it's working as advertised. The only negative is that they've learned what the applicator looks like and scurry when they see it.
