Two freatures set this apart.
There usually isn't much differentiation pre-seasoned cast iron skillets but this piece is indeed different in two ways that make a difference to me. First, it seems to be a thinner cast iron, making it lighter. It's actually lighter than a "regular" smaller 10" cast iron skillet that I have (weighed them, the Calphalon is about a pound lighter!). Cast iron is never lightweight, to be sure, but this is somewhat easier to maneuver for cooking and cleaning than it would otherwise be. (The product description says 6.8 pounds; another 12" skillet shows at 8 pounds.) Second, the bottom and sides meet in a slope, a curve. Most cast iron skillets are sharply angled at that juncture. The curved corner makes foods easier to move around (fried eggs, for example; also scrapple, burgers, steaks, and grilled cheese sammys) or to stir (stews and the like). The curved corner also makes it easier to clean - nothing gets stuck in the angle between bottom and sides. I've had this skillet for a little over three weeks and it has performed up to my every expectation. It has taken additional seasoning well (the bottom is now almost as slick as Teflon - some of that may be due to using chain mail on it). My only criticism I have is that Calphalon doesn't make 10" and 8" versions of this skillet.

You should own one large cast iron skillet
100% as advertised. I own a full set of stainless steel cookware that I use when needed, but for my single skillet meals this is the workhorse that is left clean and ready to use on my stove top. If you've never owned cast iron do a quick google on the care, the short of it is that the pan needs to have a layer of oil protecting it from water/air that will cause rust(rust is oxygen and Iron, so not toxic, but will reduce the pan's life). If you never owned or cooked with cast iron that might seem high maintenance, but I find it easier to take care of than a pan with a non-stick surface. If you burn something on cast iron you can scrub it quick with steel wool, heat it up, and then just wipe it with olive oil and its back to original condition. Between the stainless steel set, and this cast iron pan, my cookware will last me decades. Whereas all of my non-sticks lasted a couple years before the coating started to flake off into my food(I'm sure the coatings were all non-toxic and inert, but the idea that I've eaten so much Teflon in my life weirds me out). While stainless steel is a litter easier to clean(stainless can be put in a dishwasher, cast iron you should not), I end up using this pan more because it has a lot more thermal mass, which results in the heat being much more even and consistent. I originally bought this just to sear my rib-eyes(if you've never had flat iron high heat rib-eyes, you've never truly lived), but end up using it for most stove top cooking because of heat management and easy of cleaning. I wish I would have gone this route the very first cookware I bought!

Solid, well-made, heavy skillet!
This is a great, HEAVY cast iron skillet. I was worried about ordering online and getting something cheap, but this is high-quality bludgeoning material style skillet. I've cooked with it a few times and had no issues with it in the oven or on the stove. I am in love with the person who added the little tab opposite the handle though because this thing is so heavy that without the little metal tab to hold on to and steady it while moving it, I'd probably have dropped it. Make sure you're using good potholders when you lift it because the entire thing gets pretty hot.

Another great item from Calphalon!
Love this cast iron griddle/grill. I have used it on cold nights when I don't want to go outside, but want grilled food. Works great on gas stove, and is very study and well made. I love Calphalon products, and will continue to purchase this brand of kitchen products. All my Calphalon items are well made and have kept their quality and durability over the years, so I am sure this item will too. You can register this item on the Calphalon website if you want to take advantage of their protection/warranty. I do this for all my purchases, and it's worth it. It's heavy too, so be careful not to drop it or even when handling with heat, as you will get burnt.

It's a basic cast iron skillet for a good price. I know it says it's pre-seasoned
I've been using this skillet consistently for about 6 months now and have no complaints. It's a basic cast iron skillet for a good price. I know it says it's pre-seasoned, but it needed to be seasoned again when I bought it. No complaints, good product, good price.

Absolutely the best cast iron in the market
Own the 10" grille pan for over 2 years. So impressed with uniformed heating and easy cleaning ability, brought the 12" frying pan. All I can say after grilling summer veggies is WOW. Same attributes of the 10" grille pan. Simply the best!

Awesome
Awesome, got it for my hubby after I had I 10 inch skillet and he commented he wished it was bigger. Heavy, came super fast, easy to manage and wash. Just NO SOAP!! Or you will have to re season the pan

I love it! I was looking for large cast iron ...
I love it! I was looking for large cast iron pan and this one is perfect size. Perfect for cooking for the large family. I love the curved edge. It makes it very easy to clean. Yes, the handle is short but I wouldn’t be able to lift it securely by one hand anyways. So , together with the smaller handle on the other side, I have no problem with handling it.

Fantastic skillet. Sturdy, cooks evenly and holds it seasoning nicely. Decent weight. Sears steak nicely.
