Works like a charm
Read allot of back and forth reviews so I took it apart, cleaned it, adjusted it and greased it. Works like a charm. One side note, the metal sliding adjuster, I drilled the 2 extra holes for the screws to hold it better, works without a problem.

Great little 4 inch Cross Slide Vise
I read many reviews on this vise but My experience was very good. First all I had to do was tighten everything and give it an oiling well with synthetic 10/30 motor oil and this baby worked just fine. There is a little slop in the cranking of both operations but not enough to bother anything at all. I looked at 20 other versions and this one is the best by far. I recommend it. It is a very good buy and will satisfy just about everybody. Thanks for building a worth while piece of hardware. S Thompson, Oregon

Three inch XY vice is excellent companion for my Economy Drill Press
This vice is very heavy and solid. It is heavly enough to not have to bolt it down on the drill press foundation which is a plus becuase I would not have to use it all of the time and would taking it off and on. As I stated very heavy and built very solid. The X and Y movement was a bit sticky but Added some light oil on the moving parts and it was smooth again. This thing is made of iron, except for the cranks, so don’t let it sit in a heavy humid location; it will rust. I coated mine with just a very thin layer of light oil. If you are looking for a nice XY vice for drill press or lathe don’t let this one get away. The price is fantastic and it comes in 3, 4, 5, 6, inch (the base size plus larger clamping).

Works well right out of the box
The quality is good, and exactly what my husband needed for drilling holes in precise spots in a heat sink for an amplifier. To resolve any question regarding height - the overall height of the unit is 4.75". It's not a precision machinist's device - and anyone who expects to get a $700 cross vise for under $50 is having a dream. Unlike other reviewers, we did not find any problematic grease or paint issues. The vise arrived with the rails in a locked position for shipping, which obviously would require some minor adjustment. But beyond that - this thing was ready to go right out of the box.

Good for the money
I recieved my vise ahead of schedule and in good order. After a bit of sanding, buffing, cleaning and oiling it works fine for the money. The factory had it square, out of the box. I had a bunch of play in the Y axis handle, but found out that measurement dial ahead of the handle crank was out of the screws detent in the worm shaft. So, I just reset and tightened it and was back in business. I am using mine for rifle bolt jeweling, woodworking, and low tolerance aluminum billet millword. If you want high tolerance you should go with a name brand vice. I did have to buff the worm screws and bed, but no big deal. Id buy it again.

Good for what it is.
This works great i needed it for some milling/drilling of AR lowers and it worked fine it can be better but will be enough for that type of job.

It is certainly worth the price.
First like many others, mine was really stiff. The only lube on the threads appears to be the cutting oil from cutting the threads and finishing the sliding surfaces. I took it totally apart cleaned it up and applied proper lubercation to all the moving parts. Other than needing some shims to tighten up the loose spots, it does what it is supposed to. If I had mounted the handles and tried to force it to work as it came out of the box, I would have broken the pot metal handles. It is inexpensive and as such needs a bit of a tune-up. It is useable and I like mine. Number one hint is, lubercate it before you force it.

This is a bargain at $42.50 ! For What It Can Do, It's A Great Bargain
Looking at this vise just out of the box, putting the handles on it, it appears to be a real solid piece of equipment and at $42.50 this is a terrific bargain considering what it can do. You can actually mill a straight cut in a piece of steel or other material with an end mill bit, etc. with this moving vise. What a terrific bargain for what this machine can do! So far so good. Make great slots for bolt action receivers, and can slot an ejection port, etc., make a slot in a flat piece also. Good slotting tool for pen gun makers. No more sloppily cut slots with this machine.

Fantastic for the money
As of 6-21-19 the 3" cross-slide version of this vise is 16.99 shipped -- a steal. It's not perfect - the first thing that one needs to do is completely disassemble it, clean it, grease it (I used white lithium grease) then reassemble it. It works with just a very little bit of slop, but once tightened down, it holds fine. You can't touch this for the price!

Can’t complain for the money, works for what I use it for.
This was the best xy axis vise I could find for the price. I took the advise of others from reviews, and disassembled the entire thing and greased everything that made contact with moving parts. Out of the box it was pretty rough, but now it glides easily with 2 fingers on the handle. If you have a knack for mechanical things you’ll be able to figure it out. I have yet to use it, but I haven’t had any of the problems that others reviews mention. I’ll update as time goes on.
