Idk about the negative reviews, how they have been using, but it worked PERFECTLY for my horse's water trough. I have a 150 gallon Rubbermaid trough that is always in the shade, and during summer I have issues with mosquitoes that decide to have their little nasty families in my horse's water (I live in FL). It was driving me crazy. I seriously considered buying minnows or a gold fish, but after giving this a try, I'm very happy to say that there are ZERO larvae in the water. ZERO. It is a huge win. of course I still have mosquitoes from time to time (it is Florida after all) but I'm proud to say that they are not reproducing in my horse's water anymore, and that the total # has decreased to less than 10%. I put one dunk every month, and I scrub the trough every 15 days.

I was able to place this dunk on the end of a wire and put it into the street drain near my home. Water was not draining properly due to debris build up, allowing mosquitoes to prosper. When the dunk had dissolved, I replaced it with another on the end of the wire. Could not do this without the donut shape. Pellets wash away with each rain so the dunk allowed me to keep the anti mosquito chemical in place longer.

I have ruts and huge puddles in my driveway -- live in the humid, mosquito filled south. I use these when it rains, and it cuts down on mosquitos in my yard tremendously! I've reordered since first trying last summer.

I have used mosquito dunks for years. This was my first time purchasing through Amazon since I couldn't get out to the pond supply store. These little gems work! I have a 3,000 gallon pond as well as smaller ponds for various turtle enclosures. Mosquitoes think I'm awfully tasty and with all the water features on our property, mosquito control is a must. These organisms target only the mosquito larvea. I have frogs, tadpoles, salamanders, turtles, fish, aquatic bugs, dragonflies ... all are unaffected by these dunks. BUT the mosquito larvae die quickly! If you have a smaller area with standing water or smaller water feature, just break a dunk into pieces. Love this product!

This stuff works -- I cut em in half and place em in my skinny under-pot saucers on my balcony. I've seen a GOOD reduction of skeeters on my balcony -- even after torrential rains that flood the pots and saucers (I have since put baffles on the pots to redirect the rainfall -- that helps a great deal too). The donuts are long-lasting, and the price is right-- I would pay whatever I had to, really -- to get those buzzy brats off my balcony.

I've been breaking off about a quarter of one of these and keeping it in my watering can filled with water about a fourth way up. I've been watering all my plants with this brew since I discovered fungus gnats. It seems to be helping. I have tried everything, and it seems a multi-pronged approach is the only thing that helps. So tired of... Spending more money on solutions than on the plants. Monitoring w yellow sticky sheets and seeing my plants look like some monstrous tree. Doing hydrogen peroxide dunks. Watering from the bottom. Using these mosquito dunks. Pouring sand on top of the soil. Using a plastic bag with a rubber band to cover the bottom of the plant, BTW, the plastic bag is key. The SOBs have learned to hatch from the bottom, since the top is covered in sand. So I quickly take off the bag, tie it and put it in the freezer and send these suckers to a quick, cruel death. I probably should have bought the bits rather than the dunks -- I have to break these up -- but the formula is the same. I hope my handy hints help you. And may you never know the annoyance of the fungus gnat!

If you get lots of mosquitos, you need these dunks! I have cut our Mosquito problem down by at least 70% by using these. I am one of those people where 10 people around me won’t get 1 bite but I will get 10 bites all over me on a good night or everyone will wear shorts and I will wear sweatpants and I will get bites through my pants! Yes, I am that person, the mosquito feeder! That is what my husband calls me. I had WEST NILE VIRUS, so I am serious about mosquito control, even though you are not suppose to be able to get it again. I check for standing water in our yard constantly. I take these dunks and add to areas that collect water because of drainage issues. I will break some apart and crumble them near outdoor drains in my front street area. There are some areas of my lawn that dip down and may collect water and I put some crumbled up in those spots too. My neighbor behind me has a pool that drains extra water down the side of my backyard sometimes. I crumble them up and sprinkle down the side area that gets that water. It is like night and day. These have changed our lives. I pretty much stayed in all summer, they were all over the place. Now I don’t really see or feel the Mosquitos much. I can actually sit on my patio with a little spritz of all natural repellent on me and enjoy the evening. I love it!

Update: Yes, it worked, but I think it's killing my plants! I put one dunk in my 25 sq pond (2 feet deep). Within about 2 days, I noticed fewer living larvae. Give it time, it will work. So far, my water hyacinth and hornwort are fine, too.

They work perfectly...have killed thousands...maybe millions of mosquitoes. One AG consultant recommends putting water in a shallow container and placing a dunk in it. The females will lay their eggs in the water and everything will die.... I did it and it works...

Works great in the fountains in my garden -- the BAD news is that the local squirrel has developed a taste for them. He eats them and hides what's left for later. Found one under a bush with bites out of it. So I need to tie them to the fountain, I guess.
