Bought 2 of these for work. They brew pretty quick, keep the coffee hot, and the outside of the carafe cool. I noticed some comments about the lids breaking, so I got Squaretrades on these (less than $2/year for 4 years). I don't expect to have problems. I can see someone unfamiliar with the pots twisting the lid the wrong way, but they would have to be pretty persistent to break them. We brew at least 2 pots per day, per pot, washing between each brew. Not issues so far. if you want to save on filters, pick up these from amazon: GoldTone Brand Reusable 8-12 Cup Basket Coffee Filter fits Hamilton Beach Coffee Makers and Brewers. I haven't used a coffee pot for several years at home because I use my espresso machine to make my coffee. I now needed a coffee maker to fit into my 5th wheel trailer. After I received this unit I tested it out before loading it into the trailer and I have to say it made the best cup of coffee that I have made in a long time! Don't get me wrong, my espresso machine makes really good coffee! This coffee maker is truly a keeper! I love the fact that it doesn't continue to cook the coffee. The reason why I got rid of my coffee pots was for just that reason, over cooking! This is easy to use and adjustable as to how bold you really want your cup of Joe! Inexpensive and easy to use you can't go wrong with this great coffee maker! I have worked for Starbucks for more than 10 years and I would put it up against their coffee makers any day! I also don't promote very many of the products that I have gotten over the years and I couldn't resist to put it out there that this is one coffee brewer that is really worth it!

I studied and researched coffee pots for 2 weeks. I wanted a basic machine, programmable with a stainless steel carafe (so I won't break it) that was affordable. The carafe does keep the coffee hot for hours and the machine itself doesn't have a burner. Why? It doesn't need one because of the amazing carafe. Brilliant! Very Happy Customer!

Yes, 12 cups means 12 4oz cups.... this has never been in question with any coffee maker I have ever owned. If you have jumbo mugs as we do in our home, you’ll get 4 mugs worth - give or take. Just unpacked 2 days ago. Received in excellent condition. Did numerous brew cycles yesterday: water, vinegar full strength, water, coffee, water. You kind of have to because of the plastic parts. Anyway, I had zero problems. No leaks, no coffee ground messes. Carafe has a huge opening for easy cleaning, keeps coffee HOT for hours - 3 hours is the longest a pot lasts around here but at hour 3 and the final mug, coffee poured out steaming hot. I like that I can choose a brew strength, though I will likely just use the max amount of grounds and brew it on regular for the sake of time. I hope it lasts. If it doesn’t I’ll update my review.

Bought this with an Assurion-issued Amazon gift card after our old one gave up the ghost. OMG what a great coffee maker! Very well built and a breeze to use. B&D recommends heating the thermal carafe with hot water just before brewing to keep the coffee hot longer. We've found it works well either way so that speaks to the quality of the double-walled carafe. Speaking of which, the carafe is a little heavy but the "dripless" pour spout absolutely works as advertised. The unit shuts off automatically at the end of each brew cycle so you don't have to worry later about whether you turned it off. It has a small batch setting for 1-4 cups as well as 3 strength settings. It can also be programmed for auto brewing for up to 24 hours. It also has a built-in cleaning/de-scaling cycle that alerts you when it's time to run the automatic cycle. Neat! And the most important thing: The taste of the coffee. This unit touts an "even spray" brew nozzle that evenly covers the grounds during the brew cycle. Maybe it's psychological but this coffee maker brews some of the best tasting coffee I've ever made at home. My wife, a culinary instructor, agrees. I highly recommend this unit!

Great coffee maker for those who want a compact unit with a 12 cup thermal carafe. Makes a nice cup of coffee especially when put it on the bold setting. I did a temperature check after two hours - it held at 149 degrees - fine for us. The brewing cycle is quite long. If you are impatient or can't plan ahead using the programable feature, buy something else. The carafe is well balanced, easy to pour from, easy to clean and not too heavy. Be sure to thoroughly wash the manufacturing oils off the brew basket and the reservoir. Then run a few brew cycles with just water before your first true brew. There is an initial plastic odor. But it doesn't last, especially if you do the above. Highly recommended - especially for the price. "Black and Decker" doesn't have the branding cachet of Cuisinart, but this model performs. I have had several of the Cuisinarts at twice the price - only to have the control panel fail.

I was shocked at how hard it was to find a coffee maker on Amazon that met my needs. All I wanted was a simple drip coffee maker with a thermal carafe and NO HOT PLATE. I don't want to cook my coffee for hours after it's brewed and a good thermal carafe should keep the coffee plenty hot all morning without a hot plate. While there are a good number of coffee makers like that on Amazon, the majority have well over 20% 1-star ratings. Most are in the 35-40% 1-star. That's frustrating. This B&D coffee maker bucks that trend. It's very inexpensive and works great. The carafe is huge (a bit too big...more on that later) and keeps coffee hot for HOURS. I made coffee at 5:30 am and it was still warm 13 hours later. No exaggeration. The thermal carafe that comes with this coffee maker is awesome. The controls are simple to use. I was able to brew and set the timer for automatic brew without opening the instructions. The internals look fine and the basket and "sneak a cup" feature work well. And it makes HOT coffee! Pros: - Inexpensive - Simple to operate - Awesome carafe keeps coffee hot for a whole day - Carafe is huge - easily makes 12+ cups - No hot plate! Cons: - Carafe holds more water than the reservoir! If you fill the carafe to the top and pour it all into the coffee maker, you'll overflow a least a cup of water. - It's a bit slow to brew. It takes about 20 minutes to brew a full pot. Not that bad but other coffee makers I've had were far faster. None of these cons were significant enough to drop a star. Given the number of horribly reviewed and expensive coffee makers on Amazon, I think this one's a winner.

This is basically a straight-forward coffee maker with a handy programmable feature. Where it shines, for me, is the carafe instead of a glass pot. With a glass pot, the coffee maker has to keep a heating element hot and those use a lot of energy. After a while, you get that burnt coffee taste we've all not enjoyed. This coffee maker heats up, makes the coffee, and then shuts off. The sealed carafe keeps the coffee hot. To give you an idea of how well the carafe works, I made a 12-cup batch of coffee at 8am and poured a 24oz cup. The carafe of coffee sat on my kitchen counter until 3pm, when I decided to see how warm the coffee still was and poured another cup. Blew me away... 7 hours after the original brew, the coffee was steaming and still just under hot. Not "sip" hot, but much hotter than "warm." The coffee at 3pm still tasted fresh-brewed. For straight-forward coffee drinkers, this is a great coffee maker in my opinion.

I love this thing. It's simple, small, looks clean, and gets the job done. I'm not sure what happened, but when I bought it I paid $25 and it looks like the price has more than doubled by now. That aside, I love Black+Decker products the ish just works! It seems so stupid to be overjoyed with a product completing its intended purpose, but with all the crap on the market that has every feature you'll never need AND the kitchen sink, functionality and durability have suffered. So, yeah, I really like that my coffee maker just makes coffee! If there's anything I've learned about small kitchen appliances, it's that anything that has too many features and costs too much isn't worth it. I've noticed this to be true specifically with coffee makers and toaster ovens. Both of which I've started off with very expensive versions as wedding presents and then incrementally downgraded over the years to the cheapest most reliable models I can find. I've had big, expensive, very pretty, very fancy, several-hundred-dollar appliances, but something always fails. Whether it's a flawed feature or a broken part, there's always a problem too soon. In my opinion, if the appliance does more things, there are more things that can break. And trying to fix something with replacement parts is both time consuming and stupid expensive. It's infuriating when the cost of replacing a coffee pot is 2/3 of the entire coffee maker!!! This one is super compact and fits very nicely on my kitchen counter. I love the thermal carafe because the metal not only insulates the heat really well, but if you drop it, guess what.... it doesn't break!! Lo-tech is awesome. It makes no difference that this thing has no heating element to keep coffee warm because the carafe will keep it hot for hours after it's done brewing. That's also great because it won't slowly burn your coffee, it's one less part to fail over time, and it makes the unit smaller profile. Beyond all that, it's just simple, lightweight design that that's easy too clean. I can't really find anything negative to say about it.

Thanks everyone, for all the help! I carefully read the reviews from others to narrow down what I wanted. This model won because we wanted a thermal carafe, large capacity and reasonable price. The carafe keeps the coffee hot for hours, really amazing. Since one of our clients is a coffee company , we are becoming snobs, without the budget to match. We have learned that keeping the coffee on a burner 'cooks' it, not good for any coffee. This is way better than any thermal carafe I have used, EASY to pour. My husband, who is religious about NOT reading directions, found this simple to use, and had none of the spillage problems others reported. Maybe because he checked the filling gauge on the side? Thanks also for the tips on running it a few times with hot water to remove the "new" flavor. The only question now is how long this item will last, which only time will tell.
