I've been using this to sand boards, plywood, and also some sheet metal. It does a fantastic job. It's a lot more consistent than a belt sander and a lot faster than a square sheet sander. Just let the thing ride at a consistent speed and only its own weight pressing it down. I shouldn't have waited so long to buy one of these. I considered buying a more expensive sander from another maker, but it's hard to see how it could work better than this one. I see that some people are dinging this for producing dust. Well, the intended function of this tool is to turn whatever surface you press it against into dust. ;) The dust bag works as well as these things ever do, which is to say "kind of." Make sure you buy sanding discs that have holes and align those holes with the ones in the tool, since that's how the dust is sucked out. If dust bothers you, wear a filter mask. Any woodworking power tool is going to put dust in the air.

I have been a big fan of dewalt tools, I have a mix of Black and Decker items like my firestorm chop saw and it works very well and it over 10 years old, so when I was looking for a new sander I thought I'd try out the Black and Decker orbital. In todays world I already have a dewalt and it works well but I wanted a new one. I've attached pics of the black and decker along with my dewalt so you can see how they look. From a performance standpoint, the black and decker is a bit louder than the dewalt but the black and decker actually has a better dust collection process (at least in my testing.). Both sanders utilize the same size stick on sand paper pads that you can buy from your local stores. From a feel, both sanders are actually pretty good in the hand, they utilize a similar palm grip and cord location/power switch location so it's a tie. If you wanted to get a sander and asked for my recommendation, I would say the black and decker is a really good option and at the time of writing this it's half the cost of the black and decker orbital. If you are brand loyal of course you will go with the brand you love, but I would say give Black and Decker a chance, this sander works just as well as my Dewalt.

I used the HELL out of my first B&D orbital sander and after 6 years it finally died. Amazon Prime delivered it to me the SAME DAY even though it was supposed to be 2-day delivery! I'm glad the basic design hasn't changed though the dust collection bag has been improved. Yes, the 5" sanding discs are pricey compared to the consumables for rectangular paper sanders but it makes changing SOOOO much easier and faster. The discs last forever, too. I expect this sander to provide the same excellent performance it's predecessor did and would not hesitate to recommend it to anyone.

wow great tool for the price! I wasn't expecting much but this unit has decent power is not loud and works incredibly well for the price! the bag does load up with dust very fast , you will know this because there will be dust everywhere so just keep on dumping it out every 10 mins and you are all good. I dont know why so many people are nit picky about this sander its under $30.00! Just deal with it or spend 3 times this price and you wont have anything to complain about. If you only need a orbital sander once in a while like me than this is a great deal and sure beats having to call around to borrow one all the time!

For the price, I’m amazed this thing is still running. I purchased this 8 months ago and used it for a fiberglass rowing boat restoration. Sanding down paint and old fiberglass, sanding new fiberglass repairs down, prepping the whole shell for paint, and I just started another fiberglass/carbon fiber repair and it’s STILL working great. On a prior project, my much more expensive craftsman orbital’s motor died and couldn’t take the carbon fiber. This sander has now made it through two glass projects. I’m stoked.

If you are considering buying this, then like myself you are attracted to the cost. I have not been disappointed. it only came with one piece of sandpaper, but that's not an issue because I wasn't even expecting that. I got more from my local Home Depot which was a different brand, but haven't had a problem with compatibility. There's not a lot to say about this sander, because it works so well I can focus on my work and not worry about the tool in my hand. I suppose the issue with going with Black and Decker versus the DeWalt or Bosch you might also look at is perhaps a more expensive tool will last longer. I have only used this a few times so far, and so far so good. It doesn't appear cheap or poorly made so I expect this should last me quite a while with light, infrequent use on my home projects. And I saw some people commenting about the dust collection on this. You can see it is just a little fabric bag. It works well for me. If I sand by hand and make dust and then go over it with this it seems to vacuum it up, so I'd say it works well.

Amazing, Efficient and Inexpensive. I am using This to sand my F150 and it has made quick work in a short amount of time. Only Negative is the vaccuum bag is not that effective and if you wear the edges of a pads down to much you may eat away at the Velcro if you aren't paying to much attention to it.

I have been using this for my wood projects for almost 6 months now, and I could not be happier with this unit. I like the grip and weight of the unit, which makes it easy to handle and manipulate. I have not had problems using it on the edges of boards like other users have claimed to have had problems. If you do not place a lot of force on the edges, it will not jump around. However, using it on the edges of boards does cause uneven wear on the pads. I like how easy it is to change the pads. Velcro holds strong, but releases the pads easy on changing them out. I think the filter assembly is a bit weak around the locking mechanism, and may not hold up over time if handled roughly. But if you are careful, and take care when cleaning the filter, it may last longer. I would like to have this in a battery form as I move around the shop a lot, and dragging a power cord around is a pain, but other than this, I have been pleased with this little workhorse.

Never used a sander before - literally took it out of the box and did not read any instructions. Super simple and self explanatory to use. I know nothing about grades of sand paper? I got the variety pack Amazon recommend with purchase and stick the 60 on there... within a couple hours I had a really old/ugly cabinet that had a shiny coat of varnish on it, sanded down to the bare wood with no problem at all. It's like - step 1. Plug sander in 2. Stick sandpaper on 3. Hit the on button. I can't see this sander having issues completing any normal projects at all.
