We bought this pTrumpet for our four-year-old son. He loves musical instruments and was always begging us to get out Daddy's brass trumpet--but we were worried he would damage the it. This plastic trumpet can withstand his...uh...energy, so he can play whenever he wants now. Because it is so lightweight, he can easily carry it around and play with more-or-less correct posture. He also loves the red color. The sound is not quite as good as a brass trumpet, but it is still surprisingly good. If our son's interest in the trumpet continues, I expect this will be more than adequate until he is big enough to hold a real trumpet and mature enough to take good care of it.

Doesn't SOUND like plastic

Plays quite well and "blows" easily. Recipient has a trumpet degree and loves this nice little horn. His gold mouthpiece weighs more than the trumpet itself.

Perfect for a novice

My Kidlet is a novice trumpet player and rents a pro trumpet during the school year. We bought him this one to use during the summer and weekends as a practice trumpet and he LOVES it. We had some of the minor "sticking" issues that others have mentioned but a bit of cleaning and a drop of oil sorted them right out. Now the Kidlet can play to his heart's content (also because it fits his mute perfectly!). He adores the catchy color schemes and all his friends are jealous. Now we're looking into custom painting an old brass trumpet to be as cool as this one!

It sounds 99% like a metal one

I've been really impressed with this trumpet so far. It sounds 99% like a metal one. I don't think I could tell a difference if I had my eyes closed. I recommend getting a metal mouthpiece because the sound is much better that way.
