Blissful sounds of silence...
This review is for both the 92mm and 80mm versions of this model, 4-wire units with speed controlled by the motherboard. If you're like many consumers, you accept the cooling fans installed by the manufacturer, and look at fans like this and their cost, and say "meh". Ironically, I'm am/was IT professional in the same situation... However, when I finally got around to buying a new server [versus hand-me-down units] for use at home, the fan noise that I accept at work [in a separate IT room] became unacceptable in our home office. Did some research and found this brand. Admittedly there are other makes/models out there and I'm approaching this as a fan newbie... I can summarize our findings by saying that my keen-eared better half questioned whether the server was actually powered on... that much drop in noise levels. Using the server's built-in hardware monitoring, fans are running at about 50% of top RPMs for the case fan [this 92mm] and at about 70% for the CPU fan [an 80mm] and temperature swings have abated along with the noise. These move the air a lot and with their blade design coupled with the cushioned mounts, do it very quietly. The fans ship with a short power jumper that shifts the fan speeds to an even lower range with a drop in maximum speed, and this works quite well, dropping fan noise to totally inaudible. Due to the presence of four 3.5" spinning drives in the server case [and their heat], I erred on the side of caution and restored the fans to their native speed range, with only a slight difference in noise, and no change in temperature/cooling. Based on experience so far, I can't praise this line highly enough...

Great fan, highly recommended
All the online review I read called this an excellent fan, and I must agree. It keep my case cooler than the old fan, is definitely quieter, and looks and feels like a quality product. It comes with a 4-pin connector, so my motherboard can control the speed (that's what PWM means). It generally runs at about medium speed (1800 rpm), but my making a special effort to load up my system, I can get it step up to 2200 rpm- and it's still silent. In fact, it's so quiet (compared to my old Cooler Master) that I got out a flashlight and crawled under the desk to make sure it was actually running!

and these bad boys help keep the case whisper quiet while still ...
I have a Corsair Air 240 case which had an EVGA GTX 770 2 GB ACX GPU in, which kicked out quite a bit of warm air into the case. I already had two 120mm top-mounted fans pulling air up and out the top of the case, but I wanted to get some back-mounted exhaust fans as well to pull out additional heat. Since the Air 240 is limited to 80mm back exhaust fans, these Noctua NF-A8 fans provided exactly what I needed. I used the ASUS Q-Fan control to tune the fans, and these bad boys help keep the case whisper quiet while still turning up the RPM's when detecting heat exceeding preset thresholds. I'm not a huge fan of the color scheme (since nearly everything else in my case is either black or silver/white), but it's not enough to knock any stars off the product itself.

I'm a... fan
These are one of the ugliest consumer products that people just LOVE. So when I had to replace some completely hidden fans deep inside my parent's prebuilt, I got one of these. The construction on these is just amazing. I mean, I'm blown away. It's like fan art. And things run the risk of looking gimmicky, but then you read the reviews and it seems that the construction detail actually does convert to performance. So, I get it now. I'll never place one where it can be seen. But I'll try to hide as many as I can.

Shhhhhh....
In the morning or when it's quiet in the house, I came to really notice how much my PC fan was throttling up and down and, over time, it really got to bug me. I replaced my stock PC fan today with the Noctua and all I hear is nothing - sweet silence. Had to remove the brown corner pads on one half to fit the snap in Dell design but easily done. If you're a geek like me, check out the Noctua website. You'll get a great background in understanding how and why their fans are so quiet. Little more money - a lot more quiet. Very Pleased !

When it comes to PC Fans, Noctua is the Best!
The Noctua NF-A8 PWM is a nice fan, for usage in PC cases where the exhaust (or intake) is 80mm. While I've purchased over three dozen Noctua fans & CPU coolers, this was my 1st 80mm fan. So far hasn't let me down in a cramped Rosewill FBM-X1 case, pumps out a lot more hot air versus the 3 pin model included. The PWM control allows for auto (as needed) speed, or can be set to whatever desired speed on the BIOS/UEFI menu. Due to small case size, I set this one to run wide open. It's quite possible, in addition to be used as a case fan, to replace the one on some OEM CPU coolers, just make sure that it uses a 80mm fan. Am considering ordering one for my XPS 8700 cooler & use SpeedFan to control speed, otherwise will run at a max of just over 800rpm. SpeedFan will allow for max speed, just have to learn how to work the menu, trial & error will result in a good outcome. At any rate, you can trust Noctua for having the best fans on the market & as a bonus, lots of extras are there, to include a PWM splitter (a $5-8 value alone), plus a low noise adapter for those who wants to reduce speed. I've discovered with Noctua fans (other than the Industrial models), that noise isn't an issue, not only with the NF-A8, also the larger 120-140mm fans. This is due to design & type of bearings used. While there may be some that doesn't like the color & have stated so, really, who is looking at a fan when using their PC? Only if it was sitting on a table for everyone to see the components is this possible & this will apply to less than far less than 1% of owners. Most of us are looking at the screen, not any other part of the computer other than mouse, keyboard & power button. Windowed cases are for show, considering that most are plexiglass, will become scratched over time & won't matter. I have such cases, purchased on promo & not for the window. So it's not a big deal. In fact, many has complimented me on photos I've uploaded (with door off) on builds that included Noctua fans & CPU coolers. However, for those of you who likes to see pictures, am including a few., one from the window.;-) Lastly, a 6 year warranty is included, however I've never had to call Noctua for replacement. Highly recommended for anyone who needs a dependable 80mm fan that'll get the job done.

Pumps out heat when the system is under load and keeps things cool in my elite 130 (using seidon 120V as cpu ...
Purchased this as a replacement 80mm fan for the Cooler Master Elite 130. It did not fit into the side bracket due to the 25mm size being too big. However I took off the side bracket and wedged in between the case and the motherboard and secured it using a wire tie. No worries about it moving around at all, and it is flush against the side panel. First time using a 80mm fan in a case but I was blown away by the amount of air this pushes out. Apparently 80mm fans are notorious for being noisy but this thing is just as silent as any 120mm Noctua, even at full speed. Pumps out heat when the system is under load and keeps things cool in my elite 130 (using seidon 120V as cpu water cooling).

I had to replace my lightbulbs beause they are so silent
These are easily the best 80mm fans you can buy. I bought a couple of them to cool a 750Ti which I removed the stock fans and fan shroud. They are literally silent. They are impossible to hear if they are turned down using the motherboard. I even replaced my standard light bulbs in my room with LED ones because my computer was so silent I could hear them humming and that was starting to drive me crazy... but I'm pretty OCD about things like this. Color scheme is of course opinion but I personally like it because it screams quality and people who know... know. If you're willing to fork out the dough these are well worth it. They will last longer and maintain a higher level of quality when compared to lesser fans. In a way these are more of an investment and they will pay for themselves in due time.

Great little fan
good little fan, for the amount of air it pushes I never would have guessed it was only 80mm. It's a really good fan that sits on the outside of my case and is near silent. In fact at 80% power I hear my quiet GPU fans over this fan. Very impressed. I have this installed in mini iTX setup, so noise is very apparent and this fan does not make any
