A great booster set and also works well with LEGO Minecraft sets
An awesome starter or booster set to your LEGO collection, the medium creative brick box offers a wide variety of the 'classic' bricks in various colors. We picked this up for my son to actually boost his LEGO Minecraft sets a bit more since they relate so well together. He's loved it and it's a perfect set. For those that are just getting started with LEGO too, you'll find that the box is a perfect started storage system and that there is a great variety for making simplistic creations.

great for a supplement or a starter set
This set comes with a variety of 484 Legos. They are separated into bags and placed into this yellow plastic bin. Once you open the bags, it would probably take up one fifth of the bin. Do not think this bin is coming filled to the top, that would be hundreds of dollars. The bin itself would be great for storage if you needed. I am planning on saving it for their Lego themed birthday party to set up paper plates or silverware in. This is a classic set nostalgic to the bins I had as a child. I am a fan of Lego in general, I like their kits because they allow my 5 and 3 year old to create trains, cars, etc that look cool and are fun to play with. These classic kits allow for their Imaginationon to run wild as they dig in. This set came with 35 colors. I was happy with the assortment of pieces, some of the smooth finishing pieces, ramps, dot pieces, grated pieces. It had a selection of wheels and hubs, tiny size and medium. Without the tires you can create train wheels. There were several small black windows, without shutters or panes. And one tiny arch window that is pictured on the front. There's also the smooth dot eyeballs. This kit contained a few base plates, the largest was 8x16. Also a brick separator, which is really cool device so you don't have to use your teeth. Right now we are getting these classics sets to bulk up my kids collection for free building. I do like this medium set for the variety it contains. I have read that you shouldn't pay more than ten cents per Lego (accounting for differences in variety of sizes). This kit retails for $30, so with that little thought in mind it is a great price and variety. I also recommend the the $20 Lego classic bright box. It contained great colors, and didn't have wheels or windows- mostly building bricks. if you are just getting started with Legos- buy it. If you need a gift for a Lego lover- buy it. If you want to add on to your/your child's collection- buy it. Getting more Legos can never be wrong, especially when they build your child's imagination and keep them busy for hours!

Great set of legos
I have actually now purchased two of these sets. It is a great medium size, comes with a nice selection of blocks, tires, etc. to build with in a nice size and at a price that is also very reasonable. The box is also great because you can fill it with other sets as well that don't come with any storage ability. Oh, and these are also stackable like the legos themselves and interlock so that they store really well too. I will probably order another set of these in a few months for my daughters birthday as they make such a nice extra gift since you can never have too many legos, and at less than $30 it's cheap enough to grab whenever.

Good product, one complaint....
I got this box of legos for my students to use during indoor recess. The container is sturdy which is great for how many students will be handling it. The lid attached sturdily. My only complaint is that the size of the box is very misleading. If you look at the photo I attached, the pieces it comes with barely even fills the container halfway. I still think it's a pretty good deal for the container plus the pieces. I guess it leaves room for me to fill with more lego pieces as I buy more.

Great starter set for learning to follow intructions.
I bought this for my four-year-old, his first set "real lego set" since using duplos. Its great for a very specific thing: following the book to build what's in it. There are lots of special blocks: eyes, curved, slanted, various wheels and windows. There aren't that many standard bricks. If your child is already experienced with handling special bricks or you want to help guide them (or they are a bit older) this is a PERFECT set. Of course, it's legos and you can get as creative as you want to, but if you don't know how the tires work and the pieces they connect to it can be a little difficult to just dive right in. With my son, I sat with him as he built along with the guides now he's getting he can connect things in all kinds of ways. Give the tiger roller blades? Check. There are five picture build guides in the booklet and five more that can be found on the lego website on this box's page. I wish there were more, but each of them introduces a different technique. The train is just the wheels without the rubber, the car has both. The toaster shows how you can create a moving part within a build without special moving pieces. The ghost shows how you can build out and then connect with a long flat piece to create a gap. In the back of the workbook is a list of recommended products to go together. This (10696), the smaller lego box (10692), the classic creative supplement (10693), the classic bright supplement(10694), the gray baseplate (10701) and the green baseplate (10700). The items pictured on the last plage, including a dinosaur my son REALLY wanted to build need the other kits. That's how they get ya. ;) (The dino comes in the classic creative supplement) If you want the standard bricks I recommend going to a Lego store.

Nice large lego set in a self-contained container.
My 4.5 year old loved this set! She quickly got thru the items included in the instruction booklet. Don't forget to go on to the Lego website to get additional instructions for other items to make with the set. I wish there were even more things to make with instructions...but I guess it's time to let the imagination take over!! I love the container - it's roomy enough to put other smaller sets inside and contain the explosion of Legos in our house.

Legos are timeless fun
The box comes with plenty of pieces to get some simple creations done and comes with a little book of ideas (step by step instructions for things you can make with the included bricks). Some may be confused by the size of the box, it's not chock full on purpose, it's intended to supplement an existing collection (or serve as a starter box for a new one). Will definitely be ordering more of the other mixed kits like this one.

Great buy, Classic Lego set.
A True classic! This Lego set is perfect for beginners. We just started diving into the world of Lego's and this set includes several sets that you can choose to build ex. ghost, flower, farm etc. or you can just build it like you want to. They come in bags separated by color and it has a large variety of different types of Lego's. The price is extremely reasonable and I am considering buying it again just because the huge Lego container that it comes in is very sturdy and will be worth it for more Lego's that we purchase in the future! Very happy with this buy.

The "just right" size
My 8-year old son bought this with his own money. He saw it in the store and immediately wanted to buy it. We told him to wait until we got home so he could read reviews and think about it. The added bonus with waiting (besides making sure he still really wanted it) is that Amazon had a better price. He has many Lego sets that come with kits but he likes this so he can create what he wants from his own imagination. This kit isn't too small or too big. I recommend it. What also might be nice to get is one of the flat Lego surfaces you can mount things on. They are called Building Plates and come in a few sizes and colors although I mostly see green which looks like grass.

and there's a good mix of colors
I bought this for my 6-year-old daughter's birthday. It has a decent amount of pieces and a book with instructions on how to build a few simple models. Most of the bricks are generic shapes that will work well for building, and there's a good mix of colors. With all the special themed kits with odd, one-off pieces, it's nice to see the option to buy the "classic" sets with more typical pieces. It reminds me of being a kid with a big box of assorted pieces that you can do what you want with. We've had a lot of fun building different things. The box is big--there's a lot of space for more pieces if you end up buying more. It also looks like it's stackable with other similar style boxes. Overall it's a great value.
