works as expected- it's the same modem that Comcast uses (has the Xfinity logo...)
So I bought this as a used item around 130$. It's the same one that Comcast/Xfinity uses and it was actually one of their own ones that they sell! But *be careful* to follow the activation instructions sent by the seller since you will definitely face the issue from Comcast service "this unit is registered to another person". And If you go at a Comcast store they might even keep it since you're not the "lawful" owner!! So, don't it. There's a special activation (comcast) phone that you need to call and register the device on your account. THEN the service will be activated. Since I wanted only Internet from Comcast and I will keep it for at least 12-24 months the modem will be paid in 13 months (10$/mo is the rental cost from Comcast if you get a new one). So, for me, it was a no-brainer that after a year, I'll be saving 10$/mo. Now, the technical side. It works just fine for the 75Mbps Internet only service and I have no complaints there. I use the 4 GigEthernet ports at the back to save me from buying a bigger switch than the 8-port Netgear I use. I don't use the Wifi, because I had a Netgear R7000 to do the job as an AP. So, I'm happy with it! Never had to reset it or troubleshoot it but then again I have it for 50 days. Speedtests to Comcast show >75Mbps DL and ~6Mbps UL. Now this is the speed towards Comcast. The modem can do more than that if I choose to upgrade the service to 100+ Mbps which is a good thing. If you only want the Internet service, this is an overkill :) I don't plan on using the 2 phone lines it provides. But the 4 GigEth ports are very welcomed. I recommend it to save money from the 10$/mo rental in just a year. Simple as that. Oh, another thing to note. The listing was saying about battery included but there was no battery in the modem. So, be aware. I have it on a UPS anyways but just FYI.

Does what it's supposed to, but is the only option available if you have Xfinity phone service
Overview: It does exactly what I needed. Works for both my Xfinity phone and internet service. I opted to use my own router, so I cannot comment on the wifi speeds/range of this unit. Sure beats having to pay $10 per month to rent this exact same thing from them. Packaging: - Very easy to open. Just a small piece of tape holding the flap closed. Pros: - Works exactly as described - Don't need to pay monthly to rent the exact same unit from the company Cons: - It's pretty big. Much bigger than other modem/router combos. - It's the only option available if you have phone service through Xfinity Other thoughts: - If you want to use your own router, you should contact Xfinity and have them place the device in "bridge mode" - I suggest chat support as it was very easy to get the process accomplished

Works just fine
Not sure why folks leave such negative reviews on this. I ordered this unit to avoid spending $10 per month in a rental. Once plugged in to the cable connection and plugged into my PC, I logged into Xfinity's portal and activated it. The device rebooted several times and then I was ready to run. I have my own firewall and wireless setup at my home so I simply called Comcast tech support and asked them to put the device into bridge mode. It took all of eight minutes. This had the side-benefit of disabling the xfinity-wifi that folks complain about. No need to build a faraday cage as others have mentioned. Even if you don't want the device in bridge mode, you can still get rid of the free wifi by calling Comcast. Note that this unit did not come with a backup battery. I read that before I purchased it. You can buy one here: Arris ARCT00830 10/12 Hour Battery For ARRIS Touchstone TG8/TM5/TM6/TM7/TM8 Modems While I'd love to retain full control and not have to call Comcast for everything, that's not the fault of the product that I purchased. That is the service that I'm subscribed to.

No Trouble with Comcast
This item seems to be Comcast's way of making items they do not sell available to the public. It came as indicated in a box clearly marked with "xfinity", but much more. When I opened the box there were explicit instructions about how to set it up, with multiple references that if I had any trouble to contact Comcast and gave a "help line" number. I set everything up as indicated and logged on to activate the device. I got an error in the set up process and was told to contact Comcast. Since the main error seemed to be in my phone portion, I had to use my cell phone (which gets minimal service at best) to contact Comcast. Although the whole process took 45 min. the Comcast tech. was courteous, helpful and patient when I had to ask for multiple repeats of instructions, due to my poor cell service. Everything works great, and my initial fears of having trouble with Comcast were totally unfounded.

Works perfectly
Works perfectly as an exchange for the rented model from Comcast. I was able to plug it in and follow the instructions easily. It is nearly the exact same as the one provide from Comcast for the rental, with one very small difference in the lights on the front. Everything else was the same, the cables included, the instructions, everything works perfectly and will pay for itself in about 18 months.

Great Product
Works well with comcast/xfinity....highly recommended Your individual experience with Comcast on this is highly dependent on the agent you get. My experience was both good and bad and very time consuming. You might as well hook up the unit which is the easy part of the entire experience since it takes you maybe one minute to put your connections in. At this point you will have neither phone nor internet and you will be calling Comcast hopefully on your cell phone. They will need some serial numbers from you and then they will 'provision' the device

Outstanding and Hi-quality product.
An excellent product - it seems to be far better than the ones you can rent from Comcast. Connection is fast, reliable and stable. Two ports for land lines. Internet speeds are outstanding. When, I did some speed tests scores were superior to what CC reported You can move a fairly substantial distance from the modem and still have excellent wifi service and connection. Yes, it is pricey, but right at the moment, and for my use substantial use; it was worth the money. Over the long run it will pay for itself. Just make sure you are registered with billing at comcast. For some reason, I had to register it twice - customer service at CC, just could not get it right the first. Thankfully, I don't have a TV, so I never worry or pay for cable. Overall, this is a quality product.

Quick painless set up - zero hassles.
This is packaged as an Xfinity optimized device and the instructions and setup guide work guide you along those lines. It has easy and clear instructions. Connection and authentication to Comcast/Xfinity was a breeze, no hassle at all. At the end of the process a Comcast robocall called my landline to tell me that voice was all set up too and to walk me through setting up VM. (Remember to disconnect the retiring phone connection from your phone service box before starting.) I wanted to keep my downstream wireless router and 16 port router so I immediately logged into the Arris and put it in bridge mode so I can't comment on its wireless strength. I did notice that the wireless is still broadcasting as a 'wireless hotspot'. I understand you have to call or chat with support to disable that. I probably won't bother since I live in a sparsely populated neighborhood and no one would be in range of it anyway unless they were a guest in my house. Logging into the Arris took a little research because the instructions don't tell you how. Most internet posts tell you to log in with 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.100.1 but the correct address is 10.0.0.1 with admin / password. Once logged in the password can be changed. I felt the price was a little high and I was reluctant to buy it at first. It works out to a 18 month breakeven point, however I eliminated an $80/month ATT bill and was able to port my number over to Xfinity. The Xfinity website list of approved devices could be improved if it had a filter for voice or emta enabled devices. I found I had to open every one on the list and check the specs to end up with the short list. The site will shunt you to an Amazon page of their approved devices and I found the price there to be competitive with the market place.

Buy and Install your own Modem for Comcast and SAVE!
I just knew dealing with Comcast for this installation was going to be a challenge. I was wrong! The installation and configuration went so well I had to pause to ensure I didn't overlook anything. Following the instructions, I attached the cable, phone, cat 6 cable and power, logged into my existing Comcast account. The process recognized the new equipment rebooted a few times, then I reset my router and I was in business. Comcast got it right THIS time. This modem is a bit pricey and will take 2 years for me to break even. My last modem cost $75 and lasted exactly 48 months, saving me over $400 from Comcast leasing cost. Buy your own modem and stop giving your money away to Comcast!

Easy Peasy!
Worked like a charm! Just plugged in the cables and phone wires from the $10/mth Comcast rental modem into this new one, powered it on and it did the rest. I didn't even have to call Comcast. The unit restarted a couple of times and in 20-30 minutes it was up an running and listed on my Comcast account in the equipment section. As others have noted, the router speed is about 1/2 the speed of the direct modem (but that was the same with the rental modem). I get the full 100MPS on the direct connect, but it drops to 40-60 on Wi-Fi.
