Being and avid DIY'er, I do a lot of soldering upgrading components such as Capacitors and resistors. My soldering iron stays on the entire time and without this, that tip would have been a gonner by now. reduces oxidation and give me a nice tip with good flow. Great Buy

I just bought a Hakko FX888D station and wanted to make sure my tips last. I stuck this tinner to the side of the iron holder and just pull the lid off when I'm working. Just dip and turn the tip in the tinner, then clean off the excess globs by dipping and turning the tip in a copper wire cleaning pad. It works like a charm and seems like it will last a while, and so will my tips!

When it gets hot, Tip Tinner gets wet. I started off with just the tip as instructed by Tip Tinner. But Tip Tinner gets so wet so fast that it is tempting to just thrust my entire iron as deep as it can go. But, you can’t do that. Tip Tinner will wear out too fast leaving a pock-marked echo of better days; unable to get wet without artificial help. So, take it from me - If you want the best from Tip Tinner, stick to just the tip.

I have a bar of sal almaniac and use it for both my electronics and stained glass irons, but this performs far superior to it. This is not sal almaniac. Instead, it appears it could be a mix of solder and sal almaniac. Regardless of its contents, it works instantly, giving you a nicely tinned tip the moment you pull the solder tip out. ____________________________ NOTE: It's on me that I was expecting a quantity about equal to the 1/4 pound (113 grams) block of sal ammonicac I purchases for $5.00), rather than 20 grams I got of this product for $7.00. For how well this works, I would buy it again.

I can't believe how well this little thing works. I took some old crappy irons that were disgusting and it cleaned them right up instantly. Seems like a great way to salvage irons when they're beyond the use of a sponge or brass mesh. My only real complaint is that it's so small. I definitely will need to order a couple more because I feel as if i'll go through this fairly quickly.

Great stuff. Very handy-- clean the tip on that brassy scrunchie thingy, dip in this, off you go. Much easier than cleaning the tip and tinning with solder. If I want more on the tip I can just roll the tip in it a bit. Of course, I'm in my 60's and the hand is a bit shaky-- so this makes tinning so easy.

This stuff works really well I'm glad that I saw this I didn't even know it existed. Learning to solder had really messed up the tip of my soldering iron and I did not have an extra tip for it nor was I able to find the part number to order a new one. figuring for the money this would be the best bet if it worked, I pick some up! Well, I can only tell you... It works great! Not only did it work, it made my soldering iron seem like new again! The tip took solder like it did when it was new after using this product as was stated in the instructions! I couldn't believe it! That's chemistry for you! I am so happy! I could not be happier in fact with the results of this product and its effect on not only my soldering iron but on my soldering skills. it's hard to believe how much better you can solder when your tools are working properly! lol I was fairly new to electronics and soldering! Still am but this stuff WORKS!

This stuff and rosin flux has made soldering so much easier. This makes it easy to tin the whole tip just by dipping it in. New to soldering and was finding it hard to tin the tip at times due to it oxidizing I believe, but flux takes care of the oxidization and not sure why this stuff works so well but it makes tinning the tip a breeze. Every once in a while I just clean the tip, dip it in flux, clean it again, and dip in in the tip tinner and the tip is usually perfectly tinned and ready to go. Generally don’t have to do it too often but I usually clean and dip the tip in the tinner every few joints, or when the tip seems to be rejecting the solder (feel like this happens when it gets too hot or I leave it sitting on for too long while I’m doin something else). In any case I’m never soldering without it again and will always have some of this stuff on hand.

This stuff is amazing! I bought a new $30 tip for my Metcal and bought this to keep it nice... I could have saved the $30. This stuff fixed up my old tip that I had accidentally left on for weeks. Believe me I had tried to recover that tip with steel wool and solder before spending the $30 but gave up. I can't say the old tip looks as good as the new one, but it's close. It was COMPLETELY unusable before.

I spend my days building and revising circuits. I hate waiting for soldering stations to heat up, so I leave mine on all day. Needless to say, this eats up tips and corrodes them until they can't be tinned by just adding new solder. This stuff cleans the oxides, tins the tips and brings them back to life. Tips aren't cheap! (5-6 dollars each) I'm glad I have a way to bring them back to life. The only negative is how tight the lid is. The product is in powder form and I have to VERY carefully pry the lid off so that I don't end up spilling the product. A twist-off lid would be much better. It's worth the trouble, though, because of how well it works.
