Update 3/9/19 -- The brush stopped retracting. I contacted the seller about it and they sent a replacement immediately. Thank you, Servicetags, for your excellent customer service. And yes, the cat now loves the slicker as much as the old brush -- maybe more. Original review -- June 2018 My cat loves to be brushed with an old-school two-sided bamboo brush. Since it's starting to fall apart I browsed Amazon to find a replacement. I'd seen slicker brushes in stores and thought they looked painful with all those metal pins, but the positive reviews here convinced me to give it a try. I just got the slicker a few days ago and started using it. The cat was leery at first but he's gradually warming to it. I hope he eventually loves it too because the retraction mechanism really is a great convenience. No more grubbing through the bristles to get dirty fur out (inevitably sending some of it flying to the floor). I don't think it removes more hair than the old brush, but it's definitely a more hygienic and hassle-free experience (do they make retractable brushes for humans?).

I like the weight of the brush, the easy to grip handle, and the retractable tines. Unfortunately, my newly adopted (last night) rescue cat is hiding under the bed, so I won’t have a chance to use it for a while, I suspect. I will update my review when she emerges and allows me to interact with her. Edit, 3 days later: Kitty has come out from hiding, and I tried the brush on her. Having come from a 2 month stay at the unfortunately overcrowded shelter, she has a lot of loose hair. The brush performed flawlessly and Kitty loved it. I've gently brushed her several times and was happily surprised that how effective it collected the hair and then released it for easy disposal. No more poking myself trying to clean the tines by hand. And my cat didn't just tolerate the brushing; she enjoyed it, so the tines are not irritating. In addition, Kitty is a very small cat--about 5.5 lbs. Though the brush is a bit oversized for her, it was still easy to use, even under her chin. I'd happily recommend this brush and the company to anyone.

This brush is absolutely amazing - and my cat LOVES it!! I was looking for something to keep kitty's shedding down, particularly as we're getting into warmer summer months, and thought I'd give this a try with all the good reviews. I didn't try any other brush so can't provide a comparison, but this one is great. It collects gobs of hair and is SUPER easy to clean with the retractable "bristles" - great design! Kitty was skeptical at first but now gets happy whenever I get the brush out, and will walk all around me and flop over and roll on the floor so I can brush everywhere. She gets a little carried away and starts nuzzling it sometimes when I'm trying to brush her (I'm afraid she'll poke herself in the nose/eye/ear), but so far no issues. I'm not sure that brushing results in a huge reduction of shedding, as it still seems like there's cat hair EVERYWHERE, but it's got to help somewhat!

What an easy way to brush Ur fur baby cat! I was little surprised on how bulky it was, my cat is about 10 lbs and so brushing her was a breeze. She is a short haired muted calico or i refer her as a tortie. I have raised medium long hair cats for awhile now, so it was a big adjustment going back to short hair, since the last I had a short hair cat was 10 yrs ago. Definitely need different brushes for cats coat hair, esp since they can also be sensitive to the bristles. The bristles wasn't as long to scrape my cats skin while brushing, it is actually thin bristles but gentle. Its not as stiff so it doesn't hurt your cat. I received this item on 5.8.19 & used it right away after unboxing the package. No complaints from my tortie.. in fact, she went straight to eating while I continued to brush her! That is how much she enjoyed & tolerated it, with lots of reward purring!

I have 5 cats and one of them is a long-hair. Never had a long hair kitty before and brushing him is essential. This brush works quite well and the fact that the tines are retractable, which makes cleaning the hair out of the brush so easy, is fabulous. I have also used the brush on my other short hair cats (something I confess I never really did because they sort of take care of themselves) and it works incredibly well getting at the undercoat. In fact we were all surprised at how much dead hair we were able to comb out of them plus they love it and purr like crazy. The only reason I did not give the brush 5 stars is that some of the tines bent backwards after using it on the long hair guy, but then again, he's really fluffy and hairy and brings a lot of leaves and other debris from the great outdoors inside on his tail which is admittedly rough on the bush. Update: I have decided to give this brush 5 stars after all because it's holding up really well to a lot of use and "abuse." My long hair kitty is ridiculously hairy and fluffy, especially with his winter coat. I have spent as long as an hour brushing him in a single sitting, and he evens shows me his belly so I can brush him down there. He doesn't like it when I go at the knots, but he puts up with it and purrs happily when I brush the rest of him. I would recommend this brush to any cat owner in a heart beat.

My long-haired cat has never been a fan of slicker brushes and he doesn't seem to need them anyway, as he has virtually no undercoat. His DSH baby sister though is growing up and stopped adequately cleaning her back right above her tail. I bought this brush and not only is it removing what looks like enough undercoat to knit a sweater, she LOVES it. She runs over when she hears the clicking sound this makes. It did a great job getting out the bit of matted fur that had formed above her tail. Since this is retractable it is very convenient to clean. My only concern before ordering was that fur would inevitably get into the thing when the brush retracts, but it looks like there are four screws I could remove to clean the inside if I ever needed to. Excellent product.

I don’t write a lot of reviews but this brush is remarkable. When I first picked it up I thought it was a bit heavy and bulky and doubted it would do what it was supposed to do. At this point I might mention that I loved my furminator but lost it during the move. I started by brushing my sweet, compliant Momma kitty who doesn’t have a lot of extra hair or so I thought! She liked the brushing and I quickly removed a few handfuls of fur! Moved on to my not so compliant 15 pound, long haired cat who has still not forgiven me for the neuter vet visit several years ago. I knew this would not be a fun job. Casper started squirming after the first two strokes and affectionately showed me what nice long sharp claws he has. Remembering that I had just bought a new box of bandaids I proceeded to try a few more strokes. Much to my surprise he seemed to enjoy the brushing and stretched out his back and tail to make it easier for the brush to travel the full length of his body and tail. I was able to continue this until I had a quart sized zip loc bag full of white fur. He likes this better than the furminator for some reason. It is a little bit heavier than a regular brush but not enough to matter. A little bulkier but not much. I love the way it cleans itself so easily and quickly! I would recommend this to anyone with kitties or dogs that shed. I have no more tufts of what floof floating around and my cats tolerate it very well.

Easy to use and our cat loves it. Best used every few days as a maintenance program to help prevent fur balls, which can be particularly tough on older cats. I particularly like the ease with which this brush can be used indoors. We live in Canada and both the cat and I refuse to go out of doors in super sub-zero winter weather for brushing. Because of the way this brush is designed, the tines of this brush 'grab' the cat's hair, preventing it from flying all over the place in the house. You just press the button and the hair comes off in a tidy wad which can easily be tossed away.

It's true!!! This is the first brush like this I have had. My kitties are just a year old now, & I used to brush my kitties, 2 black short hair kitties, every day with an old round brush of mine. I have no carpet anywhere in my house, and daily there was piles of hair everywhere. Let's just say I spent a lot of time using my Clorox Handi-Mop as a dust mop. This particular design is BRILLIANT. See the button on top? That pushes the bristles through the slits, and then you brush, & push it again and all the hair is left on the smooth front with the slits, and presto-chango, you wipe it right off! I have only had it a few days and already I have hardly had to dust mop at ALL. I am not kidding. There is hardly any hair where they sleep and they both love it. The bristles are metal and sharp, so I was worried at first that it would hurt them, but no. I brushed barely touching at first, but the sister kitty ( we have a brother-sister ) pushed herself toward it more! Both of them look better and feel better, you know how you can just tell. They are all shiny. AND, IT'S ON SALE FOLKS, if you need a brush like this, now is the time. It has a 5 year guarantee, too. When it is time, I tap it on the chair I brush them on and they come running. Anything that makes them happy and healthy is good for me. I recommend this brand of brush to anyone who has a cat. I see it is for dogs too, and I am positive it has the same benefits for them.

I have a part Maine Coon cat that sheds like you wouldn't believe! You can brush this cat for an hour removing, as my daughter says, "Enough fur to knit another whole cat." Then after an hour of brushing you can pat this cat and more fur flies up into the air! This brush had been a life saver for us. I love the fact that the metal tines of the brush are gentle on my cat's skin. I ESPECIALLY LOVE the click to keep the tines retracted in the brush so they don't get damaged if dropped, the click to extend the tines so you can brush the cat, BUT MOST OF ALL I LOVE the fact that while brushing when the tines are full of hair "one click" and every last hair falls away from the brush in a solid pile, letting me get right back to the business of brushing my cat. Oh and by the way, my cat loves the brush too so that alone would make my actual score for this product 10 stars.
