Saw is great. Delivery disappointing!

I love this jigsaw and it got delivered as scheduled. What I am not happy about is the fact that it says on my order that "the package was handed directly to a resident." It was not handed to me, but left on my front step. That part is fine. But there was no outer packaging, so anyone walking or driving by knew exactly what was in the box. It would have been easy for anyone to spot the package, see that it was a Black and Decker Jigsaw and run up and grab it. I've ordered many things from Amazon, but this is the first time that there was no added packaging to disguise the contents.

Convenient

My husband loves it and so do I. It's very convenient to have a handy, easy to use quality saw for small jobs that need to be done. We have a few Black and Decker appliances and they are all reliable and good quality.

A VERY SOLID FEELING JIG SAW (BDEJS600C)

This is an excellent buy and tool. I had to cut a lot of varied lines from 360' to straight. I was cutting with a grounded blade. A blade where the teeth are not offset which made the circular cuts slower and harder to do, but keeps the wood from splintering. The variable speed switch is OK for simple lines, but it is hard to maintain a constant reciprocation speed while turning the saw 360'. I made a rheostat by wiring together a receptacle and dimmer switch in a 4 outlet box. That way I could lock the trigger switch and slow down the reciprocation speed. This save the blade from wood burning in tight turns. It also allowed me to move my grip about the saw body to make the turns. This also allowed me to manipulate the oscillator dial on the go. My pencil lines were dim as a result of tracing around a thin paper pattern. So I taped a key chain penlight on the head just above the saw blade to light up my cut.

Black and Decker BDEJS600C 5 Amp Jig Saw

My commercial Skill Jig Saw had died on me and I needed to buy another one to complete a project with. So, when I saw this one, I decided to order it and give it a try. Here is what i found: 1. First, this one is as powerful as my commercial rated skill was. Both have 5 Amp motors. That being said, they also both have variable speed from 0 to 3000 SPM. The only difference between the two is that the skill had the ability to limit the trigger to different speeds while this Black and Decker unit depends upon you to stop squeezing when you get to the speed you want. 2. The Black and Decker unit is much more comfortable to grip over a long period of time. The handle provides some absorption of the saw while the Skill unit did not. 3. The quick release on this for inserting blades is GREAT!!! MUCH better than having to use an allen wrench every time you wanted to change a blade with the Skill unit I had. The system seems to work on all of the old blades that I have as well as the new stye blade that was included with the Black and Decker unit. 4. The bevel plate adjustment is about the same between the two except for two things: A. The Black and Decker unit uses a slot/Philips screw while the Skill uses an Allen screw. If you are going to do any amount of changing of that plate, you will want to get rid of that slot/philips screw and use an Allen. The reason is that the slot/philips screw will get its head messed up quickly making for poor adjustments while the Allen will take a lot of abuse. B. The plate on the Black and Decker unit is larger than that of the Skill unit which makes it easier to use. 5. The large dial adjustment for the blade is easier to use than the lever for the same adjustment on the Skill unit. 6. The wire protective cage makes the saw safer and allows for easy sight of the line that you are cutting. All in all, this is an exceptional tool for home use!! It may not be suitable for commercial use, but then again, it may. So far I am very pleased with the saw (used it to cut out 11 window openings residing a house) and I would highly recommend it.

Love using this saw.

I read the reviews for this saw and some of them were not kind. Some did not like it because it left a rough cut and others did not like it because it was hard to make sure the blade was locked in. If you take your time and make sure, it was not even an issue for me. Read the operating instructions and familiarize yourself with the different settings and play with them on some scraps. I found trying out the different settings gave different cuts: Some rough some smooth. I love the way it handles. Curves are a lot easier on some settings. It fits in my hand really well and it has power to spare. I have only had it a few days and I have already built shelves and other things just for fun. I give this jig saw 5 stars.

I am a female with no experience with saws, and I was able to set this up and safely use with no problem! I have only cut a few 2x4's for practice, but it cuts smoothly and without any problems. cant wait to get started on bigger projects.
