I gave the product 5 stars because in the end it delivered 100% of what it stated it would. I like that the new model now uses AA and not 9V batteries because the cost savings is huge. I've got all Kiddie hardwired alarms in my colonial home and I really don't want to replace them all, but wish that Kiddie would make a smart CO2/Smoke alarm to compete with the Nest or Ecobee's of the world. Thsi would allow me to get a few smart devices for the key areas and still keep the remaining units and system intact. If Kiddie, doesn't get with technology or get integration with a Smart Provider in the future I think I might need to make the investment to start replacing them, Argh!

How do you get excited about smoke and co alarms? Well get alarms that are this tricked out with features. These alarms are so incredible I cannot imagine ever needing another alarm. The features are as stated in the description, but let me go over them in case you missed anything. They talk! So no guessing why the alarm is off, they'll tell you, oh and don't worry about being too far away to hear it, they're networked over your power supply so if one goes off the others know and also go off and all of them tell you why they're going off. It's cool technology and the first time I've gotten to experience such technology. Next up is the combination detection. Fire is the obvious part and there are rules about where smoke alarms need to be, but in this day and age we are also aware that CO is potentially more dangerous. I used to have separate alarms for that, but why? These guys can do it too and since CO floats on air (rises) having your smoke alarms detect it is a no brainer. Given the cost of these isn't that much higher than regular smoke alarms I cannot imagine not getting something like this. Granted you need to have the hookups for the power supply portion, but if you do already then you're golden. Also the connector is universal with other Kiddie fire alarms, so when I upgraded from my old kiddie smoke alarms to these it was real easy, just pull down the old and plug these into their spots. Done. Best money I've ever spent on safety.

When my old product started beeping twice, I assumed that the issue was the need to replace the battery. When that did not work I went online and found the manual. It explained that the detector had a build in chemical decay process to notifiy me to replace the detector after it was 7.5 years old. Hoping for an easy replacement, I discovered that my old detector was no longer made, and it was impossible to tell if the wiring hookup matched my old detector, since what was missing in the pictures is the back of the produce. The connector is exactly the same on both as you can see in my attached pictures. Also you will see that the old one has greater diameter, but they both fit the same bracket. It took me longer to bring the ladder out of the garage than in did to change out the two expired detectors. A nice benefit to the new ones is the ability to replace AA batteries instead on 9v, and that you do not have to take down the unit to replace the battery.

Purchased two to replace the existing two which could no longer monitor the Carbon Monoxide. These new one's are an improved design using 2-AA batteries instead of the more expensive square 9volt type. Additionally this unit allows for battery replacement in the front of the unit eliminating the need to disconnect from the ceiling to access the battery compartment via the back of the unit. They are a direct replacement for my 8 year old ones as they use the same wiring plug configuration as the old ones. If your existing Kidde Detectors are chirping every 30 seconds even after changing the battery the Detector Is probably telling you "my useful life is up". The company I purchase from on Amazon Exceeded my expectations. A really good price, amazingly fast order processing and shipping.

I replaced all the smoke and CO detectors in my house since they were 15 years old. My house smoke/CO detectors system is wired for 115VAC (uses a three wire system to link all the units together so that all detectors go off simultaneously in case of an event). These are easy to install if you have already have an existing system wired in your house. The package includes a new ceiling mount bracket and a power connector that you must use to attach the units to your existing wiring system. These are the same type and brand of detector that were being replaced, so I was pretty confident all would function fine after installation. They did, and now I am confident that we are adequately protected.

I installed these last week. First time I have had smoke detectors with carbon monoxide detection as well. After functioning properly for a week they went off at 4 AM today. I shut them off manually and they went off again. I called the Fire Department who arrived with a hand held monoxide detector and confirmed that our boiler was malfunctioning and spewing lethal amounts of carbon monoxide. The gas company shut our boiler down and we are waiting for service. This saved our lives.

This KN-COSM-IBA is a direct replacement for my KN-COSM-IB which decided to announce it’s “End Of Life” fast double chirp every 30 seconds at 3:30am when everyone was asleep. The next day I ordered this new unit and received it on a cold day so I brought it into the house and let the new unit acclimate to the indoor temperature/humidity overnight. The next morning, per the instructions, I plugged in the three wire (Black, White, Red) connector that went to my old unit into this unit and then added the two AA batteries making sure the red spring tabs in the battery compartment were fitted under each battery. The unit immediately went into test mode. During the initial test, it 1) chirps three long chirps, announces “Fire”, chirps three long chirps.... then.... 2) chirps four quick chirps, announces “Warning - Carbon Monoxide”, chirps four quick chirps.... then.... 3) chirps one last chirp which means testing is done it is now ready to monitor the air in the room. The last thing to do was to mount the unit to the mounting plate that was used for the old KN-COSM-IB unit that was still attached to the ceiling. The whole process took less than 3-4 minutes from unboxing to testing to mounting the unit. I do want to state that this new KN-COSM-IBA unit has a slightly different warning /alarm pattern for Smoke, Carbon Monoxide, Low Battery and End Of Life than the older KN-COSM-IB and it is explained in the new owners manual. This new unit has a 10 year life span from the initial power-up sequence. Mine should be good till February of 2029....... Hopefully it’s “End Of Life” warning will be announced during the daylight hours and not in the middle of the night.......

We have 10 USI hardwired in line smoke and smoke/carbon combo detectors in a house that is just over 5 years old. During the last year the smoke/carbon combo detectors have been giving us lots of problems. The final straw was when we were replacing batteries weekly for a hardwired detector. I heavily rely on Amazon reviews and because of Amazon I purchased this combo alarm. You are supposed to use the brand of hardwired alarms throughout your home. Before replacing 10 alarms that are only 5 years old (half their life span) I wanted to test one out. I am beyond happy with our new alarm! When I started searching for a new combo I saw the terrible review for USI with many customers experiencing the same thing I did with weekly battery replacements. We even had one USI dector cause a 9V battery to explode inside the detector. After purchasing the Kidde combo alarm I waited a few days to replace because I thought I would need an extended period of time. I had the old detector out and the new one in place in under 15 minutes. I flipped the breaker undid the old wiring nuts. Put in the new wire connection with no issues at all. The hardest part was lining up the plate to the old screw holes. After I figured that out I was home free. Everything was now plugged in and I was ready for the ultimate test. I flipped the breaker on ran a test and it did exactly what it is supposed to do. The alarm went off and so did all of the others in our house. I am now going to replace the rest of the alarms in our home with Kidde. I only wish our builder did not use sub par materials.

We started experiencing problems with our old FIREX FADC #120-1182 smoke detectors, hardwired,120v AC w/battery back-up. Well, they were only 16 yrs old, but past the published 10 yr. life span. My search on Amazon revealed that we needed the Kiddie i4618 model, 120v with battery back-up. We have 8 detectors in our house, so I also decided to upgrade two of them to the combo smoke/carbon monoxide models (Kiddie KN-COSM-IBA). Both items arrived on time. This is July 21, 2018, and the smokes were Mfg in APR 2018, the combo smoke/carbon monoxide were Mfg in MAR 2018. Not bad. I also ordered the adapter plugs to go from the old plug to the new detector heads. Don't waste your time with these. (BRK ADF-12 Adapter Plug for FIREX) One end was wrong (the new Kiddie end) and it was easy to change out the wire-to-wire connections using existing wire nuts within the ceiling junction boxes. I wasted 20 minutes on the adapter plug fiasco, then it took 15 minutes per each device change-out. I only needed a ladder and Phillips head screwdriver. You will have to change out the mounting ring/base with new one included in the box, but it quickly mounts to the existing junction box mounting screws in the ceiling. No drilling or new mounts required. Pushed the test button on any device when finished, and all worked perfectly. Batteries are included in each device. I highly recommend incorporating at least one of the combo smoke/carbon monoxide devices in lieu of the smoke only detector. Good looking products, good quality. They look identical to my old FIREX devices. Very happy with the results of this small project.

Exact replacement for older version with 9-volt back-up battery on back (KN-COSM-IB). Didn't need to change connector even though one was supplied. This unit takes 2 AA batteries which were included. Gonna buy another to replace another older unit I have installed.
