I gave it 5 stars and am very happy with the purchase. However, it would not fit the bracket installed from a previous Kidde 1275. The three-wire cable connector did fit like OEM. However, I did have to replace the bracket with the bracket that came with this unit. That only took about 5 minutes to replace bracket. You need a phillips screw driver and something to punch out the holes in the bracket to fit the previous mounting screws. It was a simple and fast replacement. It looks better anyway to see the new smoke detector mounted on the new clean white bracket. It certainly would not let the swap deter me from purchasing. I changed four detectors in about an hour. I also decided to replace the provided battery with a new Energizer. It was an off brand battery. It may have been ok but why scrimp on something that inexpensive and that important?

These units replaced an older model. These fit right into the existing plugs/mounts which made for very easy installation. We have 8 of these hard wired in the house and I like that these have an indicator light which shows which unit is detecting smoke and the ability to push a button to shut them all down in case of false alarms (unlike the older models that would keep going off deafening you until the smoke cleared)

Easy install if you already have the 3 pin connectors wired in. I did change out the baseplate with the new one because the old install had yellowed and was a tight fit but otherwise went smooth.

We built our house 14 years ago and an older version of these were installed. We were well over the 10 to 12 year replacement cycle but couldn't figure out, based on product descriptions on Amazon which model could replace ours and plug into the wiring already in place. I sent an email to the Kidde company support team and had the answer within 24 hours. Amazon had the best pricing on these. They were basically plug & go for installation. Thanks to both Amazon & Kidde.

I had been looking for replacements for my 20 something year old smoke alarms with battery back up and found them here. These were simple to switch and replace. I just took the old ones off and put these one , a few wires to snap and job done. These are the exact ones I replace so I had no issues with anything going wrong. They work great and no false alarms, but do work when they are suppose to. I am very happy with the purchase of the Kiddie i12040 Hardwired Smoke Alarms with battery back up. They are made of sturdy plastic and should last a long time.

Plug and play with the old 1990's vintage smoke detectors that were in this house when we bought it. The old detectors were so yellow and the inside was so filthy I doubt that they would have worked. This new unit plugged into the existing harness and brought the appearance of the house up 20 years. Quite frankly, I've never been able to figure out why someone would not replace a safety device at the recommended interval. These don't last forever, folks..... So far, no falsing...

I had the Kidde model 1275 installed when I bought my house in 1997. After 21 years, 1 had stopped working, and then another fell from its mount (my fault), hit the tile and shattered. Since these things need to be replaced anyway, I bought 5, after reading the claim from Kidde that the i12040 was an exact replacement for the 1275. It wasn't. The new i12040 was maybe 1mm wider than the old mount. It's not a huge problem, they include new baseplate mounts, so all you have to do is unscrew the old ones, and screw in the new ones, only a few minutes per mount. If you have painted since installation, be careful when you take off the old mounts, it might tear paint off with it, so use an utility knife to prevent that from happening.

What's to say. They sometimes go off inappropriately but are generally excellent. Be sure and get detectors appropriate for the location. Steam sets off some but not others, carbon monoxide sinks to the floor-does not rise to the ceiling. We bought many and when a few seemed too sensitive Kidde replaced them without question.

Relatively easy to install and worked right away. I am hoping they are easy to test. My old ones came with a button in the middle to push to test, but these don't. But they did blast off nicely when first installed and kept blasting until every one in the wired-in system in my house was correctly installed, giving me a sense of peace that they will work if they are needed. The one drawback I can see is that, when they need to be replaced, the buyer MUST buy the exact same model if they are all to work together in a wired-in home.

I have 5 of the Kidde 1275 detectors that needed replacement due to age. I read the reviews and decided to get just one and try it. This unit is a plug-play with no effort other that swapping the old unit for the new. I did replace the base since it had aged/yellowed and would contrast with the new white unit. One thing that bothers me (not a flaw or deficiency) is the green 'Ready' light which is rather bright - almost like a night-light! I guess that's it purpose should there be a situation where vision would be impaired by smoke and such. Needless to say I will be obtaining 4 other units to replace the old ones.
