Bought these to replace expired detectors and so far they work. I ordered the adapters to reduce the install time but you may still need to change the mounting plate. See attached pictures.

Quick and easy to put up.
Our neighborhood is 12 years old and a bunch of neighbors are having their detectors fail on them (usually at a very inconvenient hour of the early morning) so I figured I would get ahead of it and replace my detectors before getting a 3am panic wake up when the old ones decide to revolt. These were very easy to replace and took less than 5 minutes each. Stepladder, screwdriver, and basic electrical knowledge (or just watch a quick YouTube video) and you are good to go.

Worth a Look!
A while back, we decided to replace our hardwired smoke alarms with these Kidde models. We've been very pleased with them: the price was pretty good, installation was relatively easy, and they seem to work well. In fact, we've not had any of the false alarms that some reviews mention. These don't seem to be overly sensitive, but I've found that we've set them off a couple of times with smoke from broiling, but that certainly was not the smoke alarm's fault!

These smoke alarms are great
I purchased this smoke alarm to replace one that had gone badin my house. There are other less expensive smoke alarms but I had this brand throughout my house. These smoke alarms are rated for ten years and the one I replaced was ten years old almost to the day. This model is updated from the one installed ten years ago. It required that I take down the old mounting ring and install the new one. The new one is much easier to attach the smoke alarm itself to. Also, the wiring harness array has been changed so I needed to take the old one down and install the new one. That was easy enough to wire onto the ones the old one came off of. As always with this brand the quality is very good. The beep is nice and loud. They've included a small sticker on the side so you can record the installation date, which is nice. The manufacture date is printed on the alarm so you know how old the unit is. The alarm comes with a 9 volt battery so I didn't need to go to the store to get a new one. The alarm is made out of hard durable plastic for long wear. I would highly recommend these smoke alarms for your home, office or business.

Simple replacement for a Firex FADC (120-1182C)
It was a relatively simple task to replace a 10 year old Firex FADC with this Kidde i4618. However, neither the three prong AC connector nor the mounting plate is compatible. The AC connector problem is solved by either replacing the old connector with the one supplied with the new smore alarm or by using a Kidde KA-F adapter. The new mounting plate simply has to be screwed to the ceiling/wall. Depending on which set of holes were used when installing the old mounting plate, you may or may not have to move the screws.

Good product
No 2am wakeup from it going off like my other Kiddie alarm (so far). This would be unusual though considering it's brand new. If you look under the poor reviews of most of these types of alarms, they usually always start with the frustrating early morning alert going off. They all have a replace-by date so it's not like they are without their issues and the only other option I have continually seen as a better alternative is the Nest alarm. I typically buy quality but spending $90 or more for one when I would need more than 12 is unrealistic for this type of device. I don't need to be that "up" with technology.

An excellent replacement for existing Kidde/Firex alarms, and installation is easy
I ordered two of these to replace an older model of Kidde/Firex smoke alarms in our home; the two original alarms failed within a month of each other (a third original smoke alarm was still working, so I didn't originally replace it). Even though there were some differences in the baseplate and the three-wire connector, installation was easier than I expected. The positions of the baseplate mounting screws matched those of the older baseplate, so replacing the baseplate was simple. The tab on the three-wire connector was slightly different from that used on the old smoke alarm, so I had to remove the old connector from the electrical box (just undo each of the three wire nuts, remove the old connector's wire from each, and wire the new connector in its place). REMINDER: two of those wires have a live AC voltage on them, so turn off the power before you install the new connector. The alarm housing fits onto the baseplate, and locks on with a quick twist. The battery backup is activated by removing a small piece of cardboard and closing the battery access door. A soft green light on the alarm shows that it is installed correctly and working. This was such an easy installation that I ordered a replacement for our third alarm, just so they'd all be about the same age the next time they need to be replaced.

Easy to install and reliable
Bought these to replace smoke detectors original to the house built in 1986 which should have been replaced a long time ago. I was religious in replacing them every 10 years in previous houses but I was lazy and put this off. We had a small kitchen fire which filled the whole house with smoke so thick you couldn’t see through it and not one went off which was a scary wake up call (luckily we have fire extinguishers and I was home when my wife screamed). I replaced 3 detectors with these and yes they did require a bit of electrical knowledge but it is minimal. Cut the power, remove wire harness, replace harness with wire nuts, put a couple screws in and done. Start to finish all 3 were done in maybe 30 mins. Longest time was moving the ladder. These look good and we are much safer. Wife burned dinner a couple weeks later with a little bit of smoke and they went off (don’t ask). Bottom line, I tested my old units regularly by hitting the test button and they all sounded. When there was a fire emergency they all failed. I’d invest a few bucks any day to protect my family. To top it off they came with batteries! I wish there would not be a test button on any detector but rather require a real smoke test to ensure performance.

Much Better Design - Well Engineered
We've had this alarms for several months now and are quite happy and pleased. We had to change out each of the receptacles but that was straightforward and simple. We had an older model which didn't use the same plug. The new plug is a much better design. Love that you don't have to take down the alarm to change the battery. Much better design too. Also really appreciate the green light to let you know there is power to each one. And the red one for battery use only and so much more. Ships very quickly - Highly Recommend Engineered

Be sure to buy the adapters, as they are not included in the package
Used this to replace the existing FireX detectors that were failing. i did gave to also buy the fireX wiring adapters, as these do not ship with the adapters. I searched and searched the reviews, and no one made it clear if the adapters are included in the package. If you want to use the existing plugs that are in your ceiling, you will need to buy the adapters. Amazon sells them as an add-on item for a very low price.
