So I originally had the Badger 1 and it lasted me 10 years without giving me any issues till the end. So I decided to stick with the same brand and it's now about a month later and it is working great so far. Not sure if my old model slowly crept up in noise level over the years that I didn't realize it but this new one is quieter. My brother in law is handier so he switched out the old one and it was a fairly easy process. The connectors, lines and sink opening were all the same so there was no need to reinvent the wheel or sink. Hope someone reads this far cause fair warning to MAKE SURE you remove the plug for the dishwasher connector. It comes with a plug that will prevent dishwasher from draining unless you remove it. I was lucky that I saw that in instructions and a previous review had made mention of it. Also a nice surprise is some disposals don't come with a power cord. Not sure why that's a thing but again, glad I read some reviews and saw to make sure I got one with a power cord already connected. My original cheap version Badger 1 lasted 10 years and i'll be glad if this next model up lasts me 10 years too.

The unit arrived on time and as advertised. One feature I didn't notice was the power cord was not only included, but was connected and ready to go. I recently purchased a Badger 1 for my own home, and assumed the power cord was extra. Install was a breeze, and operation was perfect. I highly recommend this unit and seller!

I bought this to replace a much older version of the same model, which (thank goodness) is the same size and profile. The old one had a seal that failed and was leaking water from the bottom which in turn tripped the breaker. Very easy to install. Unplugged the old one then removed the drain pipe and the tube from the dishwasher. I left the existing collar assembly in-place. NOTE: If you are going to install the new collar assembly, you will need to have some plumber's putty on-hand. The most challenging part for me was releasing the existing unit from the collar as I initially turned it in the wrong direction (clockwise from left to right) and tightened it rather that releasing it - ultimately making it more difficult to release (DOH!) One thing that is easily overlooked but is critically important: IF YOU HAVE A DISHWASHER CONNECTION, REMEMBER TO KNOCK OUT THE PLUG BEFORE CONNECTING THE TUBE TO FROM THE DISHWASHER! Alternatively, you can just keep a mop and bucket nearby. In the end, the whole job took maybe 30 minutes (but could have taken less), and it works like a charm. Highly recommended.

I ordered this bc I broke our garbage disposal and it took me all of 40 mins; between clearing out under the sink and reading the directions and installing the new disposal. My husband didn't even know what I was doing. I made the switch while I waiting for dinner to cook. Talk about multi-tasking. I also watch youtube videos which made it easier knowing what I was doing.

My husband just installed the InSinkErator Badger 5 Garbage Disposal we ordered from Amazon. I shopped for the disposer, because I bought the last one from Home Depot and was sure it was the same brand on Amazon. The old one lasted a lot of yrs. so I wanted the same quality. I made sure the new one from Amazon came with a power cord, as the one I purchased from Home Depot came without it. Our plumber installed the Home Depot disposer and not a big deal for him to take the power cord off of previous disposer and install on the new one. I had no idea they came without power cord, so shopping on Amazon I remembered that and made sure our purchase came with power cord☺️☺️ My precious husband installed the new one and said it was easy once he got under the sink on his back going in head first, so he could look up holding the disposer with both hands rather than laying on his side and trying to balance the 15 lbs. He is left handed and would have to work right handed if working on his side. Plumbing is not his gift, but this was so easy. Just unscrewed the old one. Didn’t change the metal lip in the sink. He loves the quality and said it is VERY QUIET👏👏👏👏👏 Thank you Amazon‼️ Another prayer answered💥🤛💥🤛💥🤛 We hope this helps someone else. I read comments from customers and learn. I loved the comments from the gentlemen that used tire irons to hold up the disposer to hold it in place. Simple and practical solution‼️ I love it👏

I bought this InSinkErator Badger 5 to replace an old Badger 9 model. I did not want to replace the sink chrome ring/quick disconnect mount. Thus, I took a gamble, and assumed that the quick disconnect mounting system for InSinkErator are all the same. For the 2 models mentioned, yes, the mount was exactly the same. Thus, replacing the Badger 9 with the Badger 5 was simple and straight forward. New disposer is quiet. Came with power cord, which I understand, is not always the case.

The Badger 5 that came with my house worked well for the first year of ownership but decided to quit on me. A flip of the switch would only bring the sound of a low tone humming noise as the motor failed to start. The reset button on the bottom didn't work to restart it and the unit was clean without a jam on the inside. When I called Insinkerator customer support, they confirmed it was 9 years old and out of warranty. They offered a 25% discount when buying new through their website, but this unit was about $40 cheaper on Amazon. Surprisingly, it's cheaper with the power cord attached than without. New unit arrived within 2 days and it was very easy to install. I watched a helpful YouTube video before starting, though I found that the provided installation instructions were clear and easy to follow. Be careful during the removal process. The unit comes off pretty easy after turning it clockwise from under the sink and you could bash some fingers if you aren't ready for it... The trickiest part about the installation is screwing the new, heavy unit under the sink. If you can leverage it just right, I found that supporting and lining it up with one arm and elbow resting on the cabinet shelf while the other arm manipulates it into position to screw on worked for me. Sounds quieter than the 9-yo unit that it replaced.

This product works very well. A plumber advised this writer that the InSinkErator Badger 5 Garbage Disposal is one of the best for the home owner and I took his advise and I'm glad I did. So in my opinion ask a plumber

I am a 77 year old Disabled person and this Garbage Disposal was pretty easy for me to install all by myself. Here's a "BIG TIP" for you... Although this unit is quite heavy and difficult trying to hold it up under the sink with your hands while trying to install it, I used a "Car Jack" under the sink to jack the Disposal into precise position and hold it there, while I finished installing it. WOW !!! Doing it as I did, will save you over $150.00 in Commercial Installation costs. When doing a "re-install" (where you will be replacing the "Original" Disposal), there is no need to replace the metal ring and putty, attached at the upper/outer top edge in the middle of the sink. And... a new rubber part comes with the new Disposal, and the old rubber part remains with the old Disposal which is all thrown away as one piece. This Disposal installed quite easily with the "Quick Install" rotating top, which worked great after installation. It came with the electrical cord and plug already hooked up and properly in place. (Oh... Be sure to read the instructions about using a hammer and screwdriver to remove a "small plastic plug" inside one of the side openings in the unit.) Copy and print these helpful directions and have them with you, when you are ready to start your installation. I really love this Disposal and thus gave it a Full 5 Stars! I would recommend this unit to everyone. http://www.amazon.com/InSinkErator-Badger-Garbage-Disposal-Power/dp/B00PM8STLM/ref=cm_rdp_product Altair Walker - Everett, WA

This is the best value for the money. It comes with the power cord already attached. Others you had to purchase the power cord separate. It is easy to remove and install. Unplug the power cord and push it out of the way. Loosen the pipe that are attached to it. Using the tool provided, (looks like an Allen wrench on both ends) to loosen the collar. I removed the pipes attached to it to make it easer for me. After I removed the pipes, I carefully loosen the remainder of the collar, beware it is heavy so make sure you have a hand or something underneath it to lower it to the bottom of the cabinet. It does not take a lot of power to unscrew the collar. It's that easy. I did not replace the sink attachment since it was not leaking. Install it in reverse order. I will say you have to make sure when you push it up to the attachment make sure it is lever before before you tighten the collar. It is easy to see if it is not level by looking at the collar. It took me three tries to get it level. Once I had it level I used the tool to tighten it up. Again not a lot of force is needed. Run water to make sure there are no leaks, if no leaks, plug it in. Noise level is very low. It took me about 20 minutes to remove and install. Younger folks could probably do it faster. :-) jw
