• PERFECT FOR JAM SESSIONS AND ACOUSTIC SHOWS: The Meinl compact Jam Cajon is the perfect grab-and-go percussion instrument for singer/songwriter circles, spontaneous jam sessions, and supporting acoustic bands in small intimate settings. Measuring 10.25" wide x 15" tall x 10.25" deep, the Jam Cajon is more compact for easier transport and straightforward use.
  • ALL BIRCH CONSTRUCTION WITH INTERNAL SNARE WIRES: Made entirely of Birch Wood and equipped with internal fixed snare wires, the Meinl Jam Cajon dishes out cutting snare slaps, deep and punchy bass hits, and responsive finger rolls. Great sound is easy to achieve from this Cajon for anyone interested in rhythm, regardless of skill level. Just sit down and play!
  • ADJUSTABLE PLAYING SURFACE: The top front plate corners on the playing surface may be adjusted with a quick turn of a screwdriver to alter the distance between the front plate and the resonating body. This results in a varied amount of "slap" sound that drummers can use to provide a deeper backbeat.
  • REAR PORT IDEAL FOR MIC PLACEMENT: A rear sound port is cut into the back of the birch resonating body to allow air to escape from the Cajon as you play it. This results in enhanced tonal qualities and overall feel. It’s also an ideal spot to place a microphone when amplification is needed.
  • OFFICIAL TWO YEAR WARRANTY: All Meinl Cajon's carry a two year manufacturer's warranty when purchased from authorized retailers.

I've been using one of these for many years, and when it finally began leaking the beads, I bought another. It's perfect for keeping a groove, especially when you don't need a very loud sound. It is very comfortable and lightweight to use, and unlike the other brand with the rubber bands holding the two parts together, I never have to worry about it twisting or coming apart! I don't have any use for splitting it up and using it as two separate pieces, if I wanted a pair of maracas, I'd buy them, but this is a shaker, and nice one...

I bought this as a gift for my brother. He no longer plays drums, but he's always banging on things as if they were. I opened it before I gave it to him to inspect for damage and just had to try it. It sounds great and seems of good quality. I've played with a lot of drummers over the years and would recommend this to your favorite drummer or the person who loves playing behind the dining room table kit.

These 4 egg shakers came at a bargain price and are made by a reputible percussion company. I use them for minor percussion while listening to or playing music and plan to use them for studio and meditative reasons. They are all clearly labeled by sound level. They each carry a distinct tone so if you are using them all at the same time, you can pick their sound out individually. The red and black are the loud and extra loud eggs, and they have a tinny sound. For my personal preference I use and like the white and grey eggs the most. They have soft sounds (especially the white) and are much more soothing than rattling on the ears. It all depends on what sound you are going for. Holding the egg sideways and swishing it back and forth can create a much quieter sound from the louder eggs that can be more soothing that normally shaking them. The shape of the eggs makes them fairly versatile - there is so much more one can do with these shakers than you would believe. Remember that the sound depends on not just the product but how you hold and handle it! :) I would recommend this to any musician for studio or jam session use. It would also be a nice addition to a drum circle and would add a nice touch to a minor percussion set or music teacher's inventory. I would think it should also make for great meditative use, especially the white egg. This would also suffice as an amusing toy for a child of any age, and it seems safe for biting, throwing, stomping etc. as the shell is very durable. I would caution that its advertised use is specifically for percussion, though. The contents of the egg are no doubt harmful to children if they find a way out of the shell. Buy it, the price is a value and it makes for a fun addition to every day life.

I am an elementary music teacher and I just bought a second one of these for my classroom. It's the perfect size for the students and it has a nice resonating crisp sound. I have an LP Cajon that I paid $200 for and the students like the sound and feel of this one much better. It's a great price and a great instrument.

We love this compact cajon!! The price was right, and it is so much fun to play. You can hit it anywhere and get so many different sounds. We have many percussion instruments in the house, but this one already is the most played. Someone with no experience can sit down and tap out some beats on this. If you have kids who are tappers (you now the ones.. constantly drumming on something), get them this!

Meinl overs these shakers in three "volume" levels (red, black, and silver cases) designated soft, medium, and loud. I have all three. This silver model has very sharp-edged pellets inside, and with two shaker tubes makes a lot of noise. I am confident it would cut through well in a live playing situation. I have found that it tends to be a bit much in more "unplugged" settings, where the shaker is meant to be more subtle. The red "soft" version feels like it has sand or something really gentle inside. It has a more diffuse sound that sets a more indistinct beat. The medium model is somewhere in between. All three Meinl shakers take a bit of practice to develop a clean sound. Unlike the egg-type shakers, the amount of area that the internal pellets can cover in the two tubes is much larger, and therefore one's hand movements have to be more intentional and controlled to keep all the pellets marching in step and creating a consistent and clean sound. It's not a problem once the issue is recognized. In a more intimate setting, especially if a microphone is being used, these Meinl shakers may be too much, and an egg shaker may work better. I have all at my disposal, and it's nice to have the choice. Overall, if I had to pick only one of the Meinl units, I would probably pick the medium one (black). But I would also have an egg shaker with me just in case.

So as you can imagine I saw a band on stage one night playing this box looking thing. I was fascinated with how it sounded so authentic but without having a drum set on stage I just new it was some expensive device. Looked online and found the Cajon was well priced. Not wanting to go full ahead with the +$100 option I chose the "smaller" Cajon, well, if small means that a full sized adult can sit on it comfortably, then "smaller" it is. Anyway, received it and immediately starting banging on it, the sound is AWESOME. I'm a novice at the whole Cajon thing so I'm not looking for recording quality sound, but the Cajon is solid in design, looks beautiful, sounds great and plays well. Looked online for a few courses and I'm off and running. The best part about the Cajon is that my 6 year old son and 4 year old daughter immediately began wanting to play and now I've found beginner courses for all of us to learn. Great instrument, tons of fun, even if you're a novice, curious about playing a drum but not brave enough to order a drum kit, this fit my needs to the T!!!

This is a great "intermediate size" cajon. We have a full size adult one and our kids like playing it but its just a little too big to be something they can really learn on. So we got this one and it's been great. Pictures is of our (tall for his age) 6 year old. This cajon has a good sound and we've had no problems with it so far. Good quality and came in good condition. We have been satisfied with meinl products overall so far and this one didn't disappoint.

If you're looking for a noisemaker for your kid's soccer game, move on. This is not the item for you. This is a musical instrument that requires you to strike it to make noise. That being said, it has a beautiful tone when hit. It is exactly what I was hoping it to be and is perfect for the classic rock band I sing with. I've only had it a few weeks so durability is yet to be tested. So far, I can say that if you have "a fever, and the only cure is more cowbell", this will fit your needs. It seems well made and is reasonably priced.
