I have three Futuras - the XL 400, XL 550 and Quintet - they are all excellent.

Love it! I'm glad I chose this machine instead of others. Nice embroidery system and great for regular sewing. I used to own a machine embroidery business and this is a step up from the profesional machine I owned long ago. Things have improved a lot and not you can make in your house quality embroidery.

This is my 6th machine, from regular sewing, sergers, and embroidery. My daughters and I sew and this is by far the best machine. I got it on sale at JoAnns and of course wanted to rip the box open and start using it. After a day of reading instructions and watching the DVD, I was ready. The sewing machine part works like any other I think. I haven't had any problems with it at all. I even used my other singers special pressure feet on it and it worked fine. The embroidery part was the part I had to read about, and watch a few utube videos. The machine is actually very easy to convert over. You need to remember to turn the tension to the E for embroidery!!..I kept forgetting;(.. I've used cheap thread that I got on sale, and the expensive thread as well.. If your thread breaks while your embroidering, lower the speed. I never embroidery at full speed anyway, but with the cheaper thread you may need to lower the speed so the threads don't break. I find the more expensive thread to look better, but can't always afford to buy it. I've read the other reviews and I haven't had any of the "major" complaints, like the smaller hoop not being recognized, I have found that when I embroidery thick towels it's hard to get it under the pressure foot, but the towels are very thick... Other than that it sews wonderfully and is an incredible machine!..

A great machine for the price. It embroiders and sews beautifully. I also have the Brother 625 and love it but it only does a 4x4 hoop. In researching this machine I read many reviews and watched the posts on a FB Futura group. I noticed quite a few bad reviews but found most turned out to be user errors. I did run into thread breakage and needle breakage, as expected from reading, both totally resolved by using a thread holder or cup to hold thread behind the machine. I used class a 15 prewound bobbins for embroidery and many varieties of thread makes with no problems. The software is easy to use and I prefer seeing and editing the design on my computer as opposed to the brother 625 on its lcd. If you’re a beginner make sure you know what stabilizer to use with what material. The wrong stabilizer will give you problems with any machine and that’s the user error I saw most often. I love it and would recommend it to anyone. I just made 2 10x6 embroidered appliqué bunnies for Easter and they’re flawless and beautiful :) . Ps.......the xl-420 has the continuous hoop to do designs around table cloths or dress bottoms etc. The 400 does not.
