Heavy. Sharp. Kinda scary. lol
This is what you want in a meat cleaver. A hefty sharp blade that can chop through bone. I will say that I keep this boxed up and hidden when not in use because it is a darned scary thing to have hanging around. I've seen too many slasher movies, obviously.

More like a hatchet in sharpness
Yes this is a heavy cleaver. But as with a hammer, the bigger the bone (or nail) the heavier the cleaver. You don't use it to split a chicken as one user (one star) complained, of course it bounced! If you cut the breast you could use it on the backbone. But for turkey legs (not frozen) and I suspect other bones it has what it takes. I guess I was lucky. I would say that the blade is not a chef's knife. More like a hatchet in sharpness. If it had a fine edge the blade would chip when it hit the bone. I learned this the hard way 50 years ago with my steel chef's knife.

Extremely heavy and well constructed. This thing chops through chicken quarters in a single swing and is a must have for processing large amounts of product to give in a grinder. This cut the process time to about half of what it use to be!

Bone Crusher
This is a very heavy duty cleaver. I wanted a sturdy, heavy one because I use mine for chopping up fish carcasses after filleting them. It has held up well and the extra weight makes quick work of the big backbones.

Ever wish you could get away with using an axe in the kitchen? If so, look no further!
One thing should be made clear before all else; this is not a knife, this is a knife shaped hatchet. I'm an institutional cook, so I have big cutting jobs to do regularly and was looking for a large cleaver that would laugh at things that a cleaver for home use would whimper at. I bought this hoping it would be beefy enough to do what I asked it to do and was thrilled with how big and heavy this knife really is. The pictures and descriptions do not do it credit. I actually have a hatchet that is lighter than this thing. The knife... axe... whatever came with a relatively dull blade, but a few minutes on my stone put a pretty good edge on it. The angle is pretty steep, but this is for hacking through bones and rinds, not slicing tomatoes, so I'm cool with that. Some reviewers have mentioned handle problems, which has not happened to me yet, but the blade is good with a full tang, so making a new handle won't be a big deal if I ever have to do it. For actually using it, it's so big that it's surprisingly tiring, but worth it. One important thing to note: this knife does not stop... for anything. *including the first little bit of a cheaper poly cutting board If that concerns you, look elsewhere- but not literally, at least not while using this knife, you may lose a finger... seriously, this knife will laugh at a finger (bone and all likely). Summary - If you find yourself wishing you had an axe in the kitchen, buy this. If you occasionally have to butcher a chicken, this will be overkill (like C4 and napalm to kill a spider overkill)

Great Value
Sharp and heavy cleaver. I’ve had this one for a few months and it slices thru a chicken with ease. Just drop the blade and smack it with your palm. It’s a GREAT value for the buck. I see the bad reviews talking about not being sharp and cutting vegetables, It is a Meat cleaver - Not a chiefs knife. Use it for the tool it is and you’ll be very pleased.

Good weight.
I received kind of dull, but had no trouble sharpening it and the weight on it makes it so easy to work whole chickens.

Heafty! Heafty! Heafty!
This baby could chop down a tree! Large, thick, full tang blade, with a handle big enough for large hands. Sharpened nicely so it does the job, but not so sharp that it will get chipped. The wood handle is shaped and sanded and seems strong. I see a review that says the handle split..... well it's wood, that happens sometimes, but the wood handle on mine looks very sturdy. Highly Recommend! Thanks!

High quality meat cleaver, turely heavy duty!
Can not wait to put a 5-star stamp on this quality meat cleaver. A large chunk of stainless steel makes it front heavy, good for chopping chicken leg or ribs. The handle is also two very large pieces of wood giving solid grip. I highly recommend it to any kitchen worriers.

That's what I'm talkin' about!
Now....THIS is a cleaver....this compares to other cleavers as the Hulk compares to Richard Simmons...
