Does the job three times better
I rarely write reviews, but if you are reading this, you have mice and have been just as frustrated as me to get rid of them. When they first showed up, my children didn't want me to kill them, but when it got out of hand, I had no choice. As you can see in my picture, I have 4 different traps.... even the Electronic Zapper (which has caught nothing). As of right now, this d-con is clearly winning by about 3 to 1. It is very easy to dump the mouse out (without looking at it) and reuse. I read somewhere that you should clean between uses because dead mice leave an odor that keeps mice away. I simply rinse out and let dry, reload with peanut butter, and reset. My only complaint is that sometimes the trap is hard to set. Being an engineer, I got a flashlight and saw how the hinge was having trouble catching. With a small screwdriver, I was easily able to push it so that it latched.... it just takes seconds. Good Hunting!

These work for me!
These work great, and I usually get 3-4 uses before the plastic retaining mechanism (or whatever it is that keeps it set) wears down. I take the unit with the trapped dead mouse outside, lift the lid, pull back the spring and fling the mouse into the woods. Never have to touch it. I also check to see how the mouse was caught in the trap. They are almost always trapped just right at the neck behind the head, so I know they got whacked quickly and did not suffer. I then rinse the empty trap in a strong stream of warm to hot water after every catch, to get rid of the old peanut butter and any yuck. They degrees pretty quickly so I check every couple of days so the dead mouse isn't in there too long. I add new peanut butter with a knife making sure it is in the little depression only with a slight slant backwards to so the mouse has to reach in to get it, and especially try not to get too much of human smell from my hands on the unit. I usually put it back in the same place (basement, utility room, etc.). I'd rather not have to kill them, but live trapping just was taking too much time, and I live right in the woods, so more just keep coming in. Am continuing to seal off ways they get in (and encouraging our friendly local snakes to hang out near our house), but mice are very good at finding new ways of getting in especially when it is cold. Good luck with keeping these guys out of your stuff!

It worked for us.
We have a mice problem that even my cats can’t keep up with. We tried Tomcat traps, peppermint oil, aluminum foil, vinegar and nothing worked. I really don’t like the idea of poison with my kids. Before I was willing to shell out for an exterminator, I wanted to try one more thing, even if it was a little bit pricey. The first night they were out, we caught five mice. (I know, so gross.) I just ordered more. Fingers crossed we can get it under control now. As for reusing them, I’m super squeamish about cleaning out the traps, so they went right in the garbage.

D-con covered trap is the best option.
Awesome mouse trap!!! I tried sticky traps ,snap traps but this d-con covered trap did the job. I was after this little critter for weeks and finally after a few hours I got him....

D-Con Mouse Trap Review - Awespme for Voles too!
We have a vole problem in our yard every year. Voles are about the size of a field mouse and look similar but they run through the grass eating the grass and roots leaving brown lines in your yard. The best way I have found to get rid of voles is to use a mouse trap at the beginning of the runs. I can usually find them holes in my mulched beds and I just place them with the opening over the hole. I have tried other mouse traps and they are worthless. With these I have caught the little critters in sometimes just a few minutes after placing them. The traps are a little gruesome but they do kill the voles instantly which I feel is way more humane than a sticky trap. It is also safer than using poison because other animals can get into the poison or eat the poisoned animals. The traps work like a classic mouse trap but covered. A spring loaded metal bar is pulled back and held in place in a notched area. When the mouse or vole enters the trap, it steps on a floating piece of plastic. The weight of the animal releases the bar from the notch and the mouse is crushed instantly by the force of the bar. These little covered traps will generally not cause a problem with catching other unwanted animals although one time I did catch a snake who was going through looking for rodents. The traps are relatively easy to set especially the first time. They are meant to be for individual use but I can usually get 5 or more uses from each trap. I use a mouse attractant gel in mine but you could use peanut butter or bird seeds etc. Once you have caught a mouse or vole, you can pick the trap up without coming into contact with the animal and press the lever in the back which can release the dead animal from the trap. I usually go out back and drop them in the field because we have lots of hawks looking for food and they are always gone in a few hours. If you prefer you can release the dead mouse/vole into a trash bag. I paid $24.43 for this set of five traps and feel that was a pretty good value at less than $5 each. Thanks for reading my review, if you have questions let me know in the comments :-) Becky Brooks

Caught three mice the first night I used them!
These are awesome! We have a horrid mouse infestation almost every fall and winter because our house adjoins a field where they live during the spring and summer. I'm terrible at setting conventional traps and I hate how sometimes the mice escape them or are still wriggling around alive. And of course, I hate having to touch the mice in the traps to dispose of them. Enter the d-Con Covered Snap Trap. I set out a bunch before going to bed last night, and woke up to THREE dead mice! Disposal was easy - I just picked up from the end opposite the tunnel opening and dumped the whole unit, mouse and all, into the garbage, so I can't speak to how well they work upon reusing. However, I had NO problem whatsoever baiting these with peanut butter and setting the traps. Some of them were finicky upon first try, but I got all of them to set within a few tries of pushing the levers. Highly, highly recommend.

Very Humane Choice
I was very happy with these traps. I admit, I picked this style instead of a standard snap trap because I didn’t want to see the mangled mice. But after working on a construction site that used snap traps, I realize that these traps are much more humane. It probably took a little longer to lure them into the “tunnel”, but once they are inside the trap will snap their necks quickly - they’ll never know what hit them. OTOH, the snap traps can catch the mice anywhere, low on the back sometimes or sometimes just a foot or tail. I watched a snapped-trapped mouse thrash around for over an hour before dying. I want to kill the mice but I don’t want to torture them. I did have them out for about a week before they got the mice. I was skeptical because I had tried the Tom Cat concealed traps and they didn’t work.

Wow! Amazing Product!
We had a terrible mouse problem in our garage. The garage is quite organized, however we have a *lot* of shipping boxes for our business, a large shop bench with various tools and equipment, recycling bins, and gardening/snow removal supplies, so there are lots of nooks and crannies for the mice to scoot to, and scoot through and hide. I put a few traps out, and in 20 hours we caught 24 mice! One trap didn't even have bait in it! My take as to why this product worked so well for us, is that the trap has a *very* strong spring and with *hair trigger sensitivity*. We have very fast, petite, light weight grey mice here in this part of CO, and Wow! this product was jaw-droppingly efficient. I was going out to my garage hourly with a catch of 1 to 3 mice an hour! I was stunned! Almost a full day later, and still catching them! My favorite part is that they're easy to clean (pop open the top, release the mouse and done), easy to re-load (I use a quarter of a peanut with a raisin squashed on top of it to keep it in place, so *I don't require replacing the bait either*, the trap is so fast at catching the mouse) Note that the setting of the trap spring requires a bit of a touch, but for me, once I got the hang of it, it became easy for me. So happy I *finally* found a product that actually does the job I bought it for! Worth every penny for me, and then some! Update: Day 2 - Caught 5 More mice. Day 3 - MOUSE FREE!

MOUSE SMOTER EXTRADONAIRE
A mouse and me came face to face 3 days ago. We both left the experience feeling scared. I was too lazy to go to the store, this is where amazon comes in. I received my traps today and put them out in places you would think. I discovered my fireplace has a hollow space underneath. Two mice have met their fate within 5 hours of putting these out. SO A+ for mouse catching. I cant speak to reusing them as I cant bring myself to open it up with a dead mouse hanging out but thats me. You do you.

Worth every penny!
Sad to say we recently had a mouse problem and while 2/3 of my dogs are amazing bird dogs (much to my dismay) they are all completely useless when it comes to small rodents. I personally hate having to kill the furry little demons but if I have to these traps are the way to go. Glue traps disgust me (slow horrible death) and they're not the best idea with curious pups or small kids, but these are great! Solved my mouse problem in 2 days (a total of 5 mice), easy to set and empty, and the best part is the most I had to see of them was their tails. Personally I think the enclosed end helped entice them in because it acts like a tunnel, this also helped prevent my dogs from getting paws and noses trapped....yes they are cute and not always that smart.
