Love it!!!
I love my yarn ball winder, best purchase I've ever made on Amazon. I was a bit worried when I ordered it because of all of the complaints about the yarn arm, but I haven't had any problem; it locks into place when pulled out and is very steady. It makes nice, perfect little yarn balls. Only problem that I've encountered so far is that my table has a rounded edge, so the clamp just slides off, I probably should have thought of that before, silly me, but it clamps to my desk and other surfaces beautifully. Couldn't be happier!

Does what advertised, No issues!
A few people had mentioned the arm that guides the yarn falls down on them but unless I'm really cranking the handle fast and have a lot of tension on the yarn I've never had an issue with it. I will say the crank that lowers down to attach to the table (or surface you're using) only lowers to maybe 1.5in total? I couldn't fit it on my desk but my kitchen table worked just fine. It also is not large enough to wind an entire skein of medium weight yarn. I did an entire hank of indi yarn from a local yarn shop, but if you use normal craft store brands I don't think it'll fit. (I got it for winding scraps)

Winds fast and makes stackable yarn balls
So easy to use and the yarn really does look like the picture. Even though I buy skeins which you could use as is, I prefer to break it down this way. You know how yarn will kink up from the skein? This helps you avoid that. It works very fast, too. Just make sure you keep the yarn even with the metal feeder or even higher because if it goes too low, it will jam the mechanism. Then you have to cut it out. Not fun. When done, the top and bottom are flat so it is easy to stack. It is also good for freaking out a nosy cat. One crank of the handle and you pretty much have the thing to yourself.

WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE??
Okay, I can be a little dense sometimes, I admit it. After laboriously winding my bazillioneth ball of yarn BY HAND I started thinking how much money I could probably make if I were to invent some sort of gadget that could actually WIND THE YARN FOR ME. Maybe something with a handle I could turn possibly?? As fate would have it, before I could decide the carpet color of the new house I'd build with all that $, a friend of mine tactfully informed me that she was pretty sure this "invention" had already been done -- quite a long time ago and in several different versions. Like I said, dense! Had no clue. So a-Googling I go...and enter the Marrywindix Wool Winder! Compact, affordable, and works like a charm!! Whoever DID invent this deserves every dime they made from it as I have no doubt they have changed the lives of knitters and crocheters the world over. Set-up is simple and quick; it takes only a couple of tries to figure out the best way to hold it so that everything moves smoothly and effortlessly; and an entire 8 oz skein of yarn can be wound in just a couple of minutes! Best of all, no more weary and aching arms and hands from manually winding, winding, winding...dropping the ball, chasing it across the floor...more winding, winding, winding... Yup, you get the picture - we've all been there, right? If you're a serious knitter or crocheter you probably have more yarn than you know what to do with sometimes. I decided I'd make everyone in my family an afghan for Christmas and by the time I chose patterns and bought all the necessary yarn, I was almost literally buried in the stuff! This handy, easy-to-use winder was a life-saver for me and it will be for you, too! Your yarn will be beautifully wound, organized, space-saving, and SO easy to use when you're ready. It winds with a center pull string that just keeps pulling out "like buttah"! Love it, love it, love it!

Great winder for organizing yarn scraps.
Overall, I'm very satisfied. It's my first winder. <3 Now I know how to take over the world by making yarn cupcakes. (Tee hee) This works well for organizing scraps of yarn or skeins that are half way used. It isn't complicated to work. I primarily use RHSS yarn(inexpensive medium worsted weight yarn). Just a perk of foreign language enjoyment, on the winder itself it has instructions in kana(Japanese) and English. Lightweight, easy to store, any fiber art artist would enjoy owning a yarn winder. This is a good one.

One tiny fix and it's worth it!
I love this purchase!! Inexpensive and it works!! I do agree with the other reviews where you have to add something to the metal yarn holder because it is loose and moves around. All I did was slide a spring from a pen all the way down and it works perfectly. I highly recommend for this price, the tiny fix is worth it

Great winder, I was able to do 7oz. skeins
I am so happy I bought this winder! I was able to wind well over 50 balls of yarn and not a single one ruined. The majority of my yarn is acrylic or acrylic blend with a mixture of worsted weight and bulky. I will say this, I was able to roll three seven ounce skein of acrylic worsted yarn. I kept a tight tension and careful watch of my rolling and it fit all seven ounces perfectly! I am really happy with this purchase!

Finally a wonder winder!
Oh my goodness! Finally! A yarn winder than does EXACTLY what I want it to do! I have this handy helper clamped onto my craft counter and use it daily! It works for a wide range of yarns, from thin baby yarn to even some chunky (use caution with chunky yarn as sometimes it gets kinda jammed up in the feeder. This thing is really great, you can work quickly when you get the hang of it and wind a skien of yarn in a matter of a few moments. I use it a lot, to rewind yarn that I have previously wound (past tense of wind??) and has gotten sloppy after use. I LOVE this winder, and so wil you!

I bought two and gave one as a gift
I have been looking for this little tool for a long time. My mother has one and it is incredibly handy. It is impossible to crochet from wound balls but these little cakes that this tool creates are so nice to use. When I found this on Amazon I immediately purchased one for myself and one for my daughter as she too crochets and needed one. Such a time saver.

Great yarn winder with one quick fix
Great product that does what it is meant to do - it winds yarn into cakes. I always wind my yarn prior to starting any project, because there is nothing worse than having to detangle a skein in the middle of a project, or worse, having to cut the yarn at an awkward spot. One thing I've noticed - and I've heard and read a lot of complaints about it, is that the arm threading the yarn collapses a lot during use. There's actually a very quick fix for this - IF you don't mind having the arm stay up permanently: Just extend the arm fully, and position it upright, then affix a bit of that sticky-backed craft foam paper to the base of the arm (I also wind some tape around the foam to keep it in place). The arm will never collapse again.
