I purchased the 3.5" USB External Floppy Drive to recover some data from decades old disks for a client. The computer used was a desktop, using a USB 3.0 port of of the system board, running Windows 10 Pro. The drive was absolutely 'plug 'n play'; no issues at all in setup. The disk was, fortunately, still viable and the drive read it first try. The drive is light, comes with the required cable, with excellent fit and finish. As noted in the instructions, the drive is best powered by an internal-to-the computer USB port; some external USB ports may not offer the power required to run the drive. It's rare these days that I get requests to read one of the old 3.5" disks, but this drive is going into my road kit - if needed it will save me a trip back to the shop to fire up a machine with an internal floppy drive. HTH Regards, Jim

I needed a floppy reader to retrieve photos off floppies that were found that were taken back in the day with a camera that used floppies as the media. Not knowing what to expect, I ordered this device , I have had an excellent experience so far. I use windows 8.1 and after plugging the device into a powered usb port, it connected in a matter of seconds. Since then I have had no issues with it. I have retrieved data from about 100 floppies . Only about 5 discs were not readable, not saying it was the device just the media being old and was expected. Still very pleasantly surprised how many discs it has read since they were stored "Lost" in the garage all these years. Reading the discs takes a bit of patience but is not bad, just don't expect it to be like our modern hard drives or flash drives. All in all the price performance is excellent , at least in my experience. So if you're in need of a floppy drive I would definitely give this a try. I see some have had some issues. So far, I have not encountered any. If I do I will be back to update my take on it.

I ordered two of them. My embroidery/sewing machines use 3.5 floppies or a flash drive. I have floppies I want to use both with my computer and the machines. These external floppy disk drives fit my needs exactly.

exactly what I needed and very inexpensive. Worked well and I got all my data off the old floppy drives. Thanks! I was expecting to spend more with a data recovery service since we had so many disks at the office. This little device handled them all with no problem.

I found some old work floppy’s and wanted to retrieve the data from them. I have brought one early locally but had some problems with it reading some of the floppy’s. I ordered this one not knowing what to expect and it work effortlessly when I plugged it the usb port my os windows 7 powering up in seconds. I retrieved my data and then formatted each of the drives – out of twelve drives only three could not be formatted nor read (not saying it was the device, maybe just the floppy’s being ole). This item was better than the previous one that I had (broke due to floppy hanging up in it) as well as performed better. If you required a floppy drive, I would definitely give this one a try – it didn’t let me down and would buy again if needed.

For something we think will never be used again because of advancements in technology ...well I'm here to tell you this little USB External Floppy Disk Drive as small and portable as it is was an absolute find for me....I had so many ...hundreds actually, of files stored on these long ago floppy disks and my new computer didn't even have that drive, I wanted those files badly, and this plug and play floppy drive saved the day! I had no problems at all, it just whined and purred and dumped those files onto my external hard drive without so much as a groan. I couldn't be happier with the results. It was much faster than I could have expected from a floppy, so easy to operate, a tiny little button to pop the disk back out when it's finished. It takes the floppy disk in quickly and easily, very well constructed and so very thin and easy to store. If I were to refine my review, I'd say this USB External Floppy Disk Drive is sleek and well built, plug and play right out of the box. It brings up the files quickly and keeps order to the entire process of copying those old floppy disks no matter how full of files, it does the job beautifully. Thank you very kindly for having it on Amazon and readily available to us.

What can I say....opened the box, plugged it in and it worked perfectly. I am not from the stone age, but a car club friend asked if I could retrieve some pictures off of an old 3.5" floppy. So on to Amazon I go, and found this unit for about $13.00 on Prime. It arrived in 2 days securely packaged and shipped. The pictures were salvaged and the disc was retired. You just never know when you will need some old technology I guess. I have a Windows 8.1 machine so you know it will probably work on anything lower than that.

I plugged it into a USB port on my MacBook, inserted a floppy, and it worked. I bought another unit previously - it never worked on Mac nor PC - so I'm quite pleased this worked first time. Caution - be patient. Floppy disks are S L O W . When you first stick in a floppy, it will Take A While. The drive will make a lot of noise, and then the directory will appear in your Finder. Proceed - It Just Works. One note about floppies - be SURE to eject the floppy before you push the button to remove the disk. Let me repeat - use the Finder to "eject" the disk before you physicaly remove it. If you are patient with the slow floppy technology, you will value having this drive.

I bought this drive because I found a whole box of floppys with pictures. The drive worked like a charm to allow me to upload them to my laptop. I could not have asked for anything more. It was fast and all I had to do was plug it into one of the USB ports. So glad I found it and thanks for the memories.

When cleaning up my Father's belongings, I came upon a number of stray diskettes. As tempted as I was to simply toss them, I broke down and bought this drive to see if anything on the disks could be salvaged, let alone if they contained any worthwhile content. The drive worked perfectly on my Linux Ubuntu system and is indeed simply plug and play -- no need for any bloatware drivers. While many of the disks wouldn't play and displayed errors, I did find one disk from 1995 containing old typed letters, etc. which was of great value. I got a few errors when trying to copy all the files at once, so instead copied them individually -- that worked error free. It was time consuming, but that disk alone was well worth the cost of the drive. I also stumbled on a set of backup disks form 1993. They were stored well and I was able to successfully copy all the backup files off of all 25 of the disks. I've yet to tackle trying to figure out how to extract the files from the backup format. Still, points must go to the drive for getting me this far.
