Features and Performance Excellent - Also Good Value

I have had a Thermapen for over 20 years and it has been great, but it is starting to fail as it is hard to get a connection as you rotate the pen to turn it on. Therefore, I was looking for either a new Thermapen or alternative. I decided that for the Amazon under $20 price of the Alpha Grillers pen I would give it a try. When it arrived I compared it to the failing Thermapen. Temperature measurement - at meat temperature (130 degrees) the two pens were within 1 degree of each other. At room temperature (72 degrees) the Alpha Griller pen was accurate, the Thermapen was 3 degrees low. Timing - both pens got to stabilized readings in about 5 seconds and were within a degree or two of the stabilized readings within 3 seconds. They performed very similarly. Design - The Thermapen comes in colors and designs. The Alpha Grillers pen doesn't. Functionality is similar. Features - The backlight, calibrate, hold, and max/min are all nice features that the Alpha Grillers pens have and the Thermapens (either new or old) don't have . Cost - The Alpha Grillers pen was less than 1/3 the price of the Thermapen Durability - My Thermapen lasted wonderfully for over 20 years. The Alpha Grillers pen is new, so I don't know how long it will last. So far I am pleased with the Alpha Grillers pen and bought some for gifts.

Best Customer Service Ever!

While preparing a dish the other day, my Alpha Grillers thermometer failed. It became erratic and I tried pulling the battery to reset the device to no avail. I email support at Alpha Grillers and got an instant response from Sarah who acknowledged their warranty replacement option, which I opted for and within a few days a brand new thermometer was sitting at my doorstep. The new one works as good as the original did before it failed. If you have any reservations about ordering this thermometer...don't as it works great and their customer service is awesome!

Professional Chef in a busy Restaurant

For years I have been carrying a small yellow probe thermometer in the arm pocket of my Chef's coat, they usually die after the third time they are forgotten and ran thru the washing machine. Let's just say this one won't fit in my arm pocket, and that's not a bad thing. This time when it was time to replace all the little Yellow thermometers for myself, and kitchen staff I was tired of spending all that cash all the time and gave this one a try. The Greatest thing about this thermometer is it's both Magnetic, and also has Velcro to leave it on the side of a refrigerator, or any other place I want to. It's large enough that it's easy to see, and I bought three to hang in various strategic places where they will be most needed in my restaurant. No more employees forgetting them at home, no more running thru the washing machine, and most of all when the health inspector shows up, there is a top notch working thermometer right where it's supposed to be. I used it to find out my Deep fat fryers were calibrated too high, and that will save me the cost of the three thermometers within the next month and give me at least one more day twice a week before I need to change the oil in my fryers. I have only had them a week, so I can't rate the durability too well, or battery life yet, but in my profession you just keep batteries around anyway. That's the least of my worries. So far I like it a lot. In my opinion with over 40 years cooking professionally you are not going to waste any money buying this thermometer.

Hesitant at first, but now love it - plus great customer care.

I bought a number of these, one for me and the rest for Christmas presents. When I first got these, I was a little disappointed because they were a bit bigger then I was expecting and the "fast response" was clarified in the internal as more like 4 seconds. The vendor had sent me an email asking if I received them and how I liked them. I responded honestly with the above and said I was contemplating returning them. He replied back almost immediately that if I would try one of them for 30 days and still did not like it, I could return them for a full refund, no questions asked. So I tried it, and yes, I do like it and kept it. I like the fact it automatically turns off when you lock the probe back into the body. It really is faster than the other electronic thermometer that I have and it is a good size to allow testing the meat on a grill without burring your hand. The probe business end is not tiny, but still pretty small and makes very small hole in the meat. So I do like it after all and recommend it to other grillers out there. Plus, with customer service like that, how can you go wrong?

Easy to use backlight ultra fast thermometer

After ordering I received and email with the instructions on how to use and care for the thermometer. Included was instructions that if I had any problems or question all I needed to do was to reply to this email. The instructions where very clear and when I received the thermometer I had no problems, so I did not reply to the email but it was nice to know and easy way to get anwers. Right out of the box the thermometer worked great. Just pull out the probe to turn on and push the probe back to turn off. Has a large easy to read display that has a single well placed button for a backlight. Also, has a hold button that will lock the temperature reading for a few seconds which is very nice because the thermometer is ultra fast on displaying the temperature. Easy to use, easy to clean and ultra fast read out, just what I was looking for. Looks and feels like it is built to last, so I am looking forward to using this thermometer for many years.

Great value and excellent quality

Man these types of thermometers can be so expensive but this one was very affordable, very accurate, and comes with some extras that I appreciate. It's waterproof which is awesome because I'm a home brewer and dropping a thermometer in boiling wort is a real thing. It also has a handy guide of meat temperatures printed directly on the thermometer which is great for chicken, pork, or if you're doing a rare steak. The back light is bright and makes the digital readout very readable. The construction is sturdy and the materials are high quality. I've compared the temperatures with traditional thermometers as it's dead on accurate. I'd definitely buy this again if I were to lose or break it.

If your looking for something simple, durable, and waterproof? Then this thermometer is for you. I've used this thermometer over my Weber thermometer. Its super simple to use and its really fast. The price is less than others with the exact same functions. Most high end thermometers dont have a back light, well, this one does. So, if your looking for a great protein thermometer at a fraction of the cost, this is it. Im super pleased ewith this.

Great customer service

I bought this thermometer in May 2015. It worked great all last summer and I used it for all my grilling. I even used it to determine if a custard was heated enough to finish setting after taking it out of the oven. Unfortunately it started acting up this summer. I replaced the batteries, but it still sometimes wouldn't turn on, and when it did, all the lights flashed. I contacted the company and within 3 days I had a replacement. I so appreciate dealing with a company that provides great customer service. They truly live up to their lifetime guarantee. I will be ordering more for Christmas gifts.
