I was concerned by some other reviews that this speed square might be different than those in stores and possibly with manufacturing flaws, but I took a chance based on Swanson speed squares at the Lowe's where I work. Happily other critical reviews were wrong. These were of the quality I was expecting. I will continue to use my finer measuring tools for precise woodworking measurements but these squares need not be religated to just rough carpentry. The speed square has a clean seam joint which allows it to sit right even against sharper edged project boards; lays flat and does not rock. I used it immediately on a small woodworking project to draw angled lines for jigsaw cuts and also as a quick guide edge for one square crosscut with my cordless circular saw. The small combination square was the perfect size to locate and mark screw holes which only needed to be in 1-5/8" from one edge and down 3/4" from the top edge. It was easier than my larger combo square to hold in place while marking. The two piece package is a great value. The price for both squares was less than the regular price of just the speed square at local retail stores. The booklet (also in store packages) is a nice addition to ensure awareness of various usage features and the markings on the speed square, and to provide some useful info for carpentry. Very pleased that I took the chance on this package deal. These are sure to be used frequently in my home workshop and will go with me in my tool bag for use away from home too.

While I like the combo square this is as useful as a combo square for a lot of repetative tasks. Just grab and go. I sprang for the speed and 6 inch combo square package. What I noticed from the start is the placement of the scales on the combo square. On my 12 inch General tools square the measure scales are are reversed relative to one another (the start numbers are at opposite ends of the ruler) and instead of having a metric scale it repeats the 1/16th scale on both sides. So on one side there is a 1/8th scale running one direction with the 1/16th scale running the opposite on the other side the 1/16th scale is repeated with the 1/32nd scale running the opposite direction. Maybe some find that useful I did not. Lacking a metric scale I would have found it more useful if the scales lined up with one another. This maybe common to all combo squares except, it seems, the Swanson combo square where the scales run parallel to each other. Anyway it's just my preference. So I'm liking the Swanson Speed Square and their 6 inch combination square a lot.

I've purchased this set twice and keep one in my work truck and one in my shop. I use both for pretty much any work I do. They even recently improved upon the design of the speed square and now the scribe bar (1/4" notches inside the triangular cutout) runs that entire side of the triangle rather than just 1.5" of it. Pretty cool to see a company with a product this successful still making an effort to continually improve it. It's by far the easiest speed square to read in all lighting conditions from poorly lit shops and basements to full-on direct sunlight. The combo square is as good as you could ask for in a set like this too. It's not a Starrett, but both of the ones I own came square which is more than I can say for the blue empire tools that cost more than this one. The inclusion of just one mm scale on the combo square rule is nice to have sometimes. Glad they only have 1 though. It's a PITA when they put two metric scales on a combo square as it really messes up some of the layout processes I regularly use these for. Great little set. Has become a go-to gift item for makers, craftsmen, and even brought one to a white elephant gift exchange!

All that I can say is - WOW! I ordered this and another item yesterday afternoon and they arrived today already! I did not request next day delivery and they had the actual arrival day as tomorrow, not today. Wow, what service! I am completely super satisfied! This item is a terrific deal for the money. You get actually two squares for the price of one and also a handy little instruction book with a lot of valuable information. I have always said, yes I could go down to the local hardware store and buy some of these things, but the way that you can hit a link that will compare side by side the item that you are considering with other comparables is great, so you can make the best choice.

I lost my old one. I left it at a job site, and when I returned the next day it was missing. I think the owner of the home I was working on, kept it for himself. I wouldn't blame him, it's a great tool to have as a carpenter/framer... I never had the Combination Square before from this brand, so this was a plus when I got it in this bundle. ;-) I like this new model, the print is a lot easier to read, and they've changed some things which makes it even greater, nice it has improvements, so for me it was like restoring my older one with a newer upgraded version -- like getting a firmware update to it. lol

You really can't go wrong here. This square is perfectly accurate, and its build quality is excellent. It's also made in the USA, which is always a huge plus for me. It comes with a pretty detailed guide on the usage, and projects you can do with it. Overall I'm very happy with it. I've dropped it off a roof once without any damaging occurring.

Broke my old aluminum square which has been in my tool box for years. Saw this and said"hmmmm!" Square is as accurate as needs to be for construction work and holding the line when using my circular saw. Just used the little adjustable square to make a shop tool. worked great! Have the empire and some machinist squares. But this little guy was right on. Metric on one side and Standard inches on the other. Delivered on time and great price point! Would buy again!

I've used all sorts of speed squares and the swanson is my favorite. The combination square is super nice too. I've always loved that they throw the little blue book in the deal as well. Easy to ready. Durable, accurate, reliable, efficient. Unless you can afford the super expensive martinez tools titanium square this is something you can't go wrong with. If you do any bits of carpentry, a speed square AND a combination square are absolutely essential. For years I just used my good ol' speed square framing houses, and doing finish carpentry, when I started using a combination square I bought three more.

Nice little kit. Speed square for marking and cutting. I butt up my circular saw against it for perfect 90 degree cuts on 2x4s and 2x6s. Combo square is great for getting measurements on moulding work without looking at inch thick marks. Highly recommend this mini kit.

A speed square is an essential tool for anyone doing any construction, I bought this for a small home project, its well made and by the inventor of the speed square. There by lower cost alternatives out there, but at this price might as well by the original, you'll be using it for years. Also the Swanson version has a couple extra notches which I found good uses for already.
