If you really want to know about your pets health take a minute to read WHY this dog food is 20 stars BETTER than any 5 star kibble dog food. I graduated with a degree in Food Science so my information is credible. All foods (human or dog) consist of thousands of chemicals with particular bonding. These chemicals consist of vitamins, minerals, proteins, flavonoids, polyphenols ect. all providing benefits to the health of humans and dogs. Heat treating foods can destroy or alter these chemical compounds in a way that your body doesn't get the health benefit. If interested I will explain one quick example, if not interested in my example skip next paragraph. Example: Its well known that steaming your vegetables is better than boiling in straight water. Why? Cause, vegetables especially, contain many beneficial flavonoids and when boiled in straight water these flavanoids are destroyed because high heat destroys them. Steaming vegetables over the boiling water preserves these flavonoids because the food is being cooked with water vapor. Same principle applies to protein in vegetables. Protein is a multi-folding molecule and in biochemistry they are categorized as primary, secondary, tertiary and quaternary structures. Generally, proteins start off in a quaternary structure and as the molecule undergoes heat process the molecule starts to unfold to its tertiary, secondary and primary structures. In terms of health, this effect is undesirable because protein in its quaternary structure is most useful for the body. When people say eat more RAW foods, you can think of eating foods that have not undergone any heat process (such as salads, fruits, nuts ect.) and therefore these foods have a lot of those flavonoids still available for your body to utilize. Now back to the The Honest Kitchen product, this food is heat processed BUT it is only heat processed at something like 160 degrees (hence why they call it dehydrated food). This is awesome because you're preserving these precious proteins and flavonoids I talked about for your dogs body to utilize. Now most dry kibble is heat processed at temperatures around 500 degrees. At such high temperatures you are going to destroy a lot of these beneficial chemicals that your dogs needs. Now ready listen to this. Not only is this brand healthier for your dog BUT they will like the taste better too. I give my Australian Shepard half honest kitchen food and half kibble in his bowl (for financial reasons) and EVERY TIME he always eats the honest kitchen food first and eats the kibble last. My guess is, he likes the the honest kitchen food better because it is healthier for him (but obviously he does't know that). If anyone reading this has any questions or comments please let me know because I am always eager for discussion. Hope your fury friend enjoys his new food if you decide to buy this product! -Joe

I have three rescue dogs; 35, 65 and 74 pounds respectively. I feed them holistic dry food. When I heard about Honest Kitchen I had to give them a try. I ordered the Revel since my budget is tight. I've had the Revel for about two weeks now. My dogs love it. I believe it has to be the best food I've seen. The first time I prepared it I mixed each batch separately. Mind you, I started with the smaller feeding and followed the directions exactly. I've never seen so much food in my life! There was no way my dogs would be able to eat that much! Good thing it can be refrigerated. I've had to adjust the amount of Revel while keeping a correct water ratio. This is an excellent product and it is expensive but I have been paying around $30.00 for one 15 pound bag of holistic. I could easily spend $300.00 in one month. So from my view the price isn't so bad. Now I feed them half holistic and half Revel. For first time users or someone thinking of trying this -start slow. Mix one of the smaller batches and relate it to how much your dog eats and adjust accordingly. Also I prefer to heat my water on the stove. Warm water or hot tap water doesn't work for me. I added my boiled water to Revel and as I stirred it smelled heavenly! Like a rich chicken gravy or dumplings. No, I didn't eat it! The difference in the water temperature was as day to night. I'll keep using this combination because my holistic is made locally and I know who makes it and what's in it. And Revel is the same way. My dogs are my kids so I want to take care of them. Besides, what is the price of this dog food compared to high vet bills if your dogs get sick from eating junk?

I have dogs that have very sensitive stomachs and the one was on a RX diet via the vet for a long time and I am not only not a big fan of the RX brands they are crazy priced for what you get. Now don't get me wrong they do work well but they are just not something I feel I want to keep my dog on long term. I also have a puppy mill rescue that has only two teeth thanks to horrid conditions and lack of care most of her life so she cannot eat kibble. She is the dog I bought this for in the beginning but all of my dogs snub kibble once they smell this. They all want it so I am not putting all four of my small dogs on it because the two that were on it have much better coats. I fed the Natures Variety kibble so I was not by any means being cheap before so it is not all that much more to swallow. The upset tummy baby has been on this for about 3 weeks and before I put him on it he had lost a lot of weight and his skin was dry from the RX stomach food. He was actually scary thin as he is a hairless crested and you can see everything. So in the three weeks he has begun to gain weight and his skin is like silk to me. I absolutely love touching it. He had one tummy event so far but I had been a sucker and gave him some Greenies so that was my bad. I went to the vet talked it all over and she said she liked this and that we should continue on it but we did decide to go to a more limited ingredient one like chicken quinoa so I will be reviewing that next. The vet liked that it has unusual ingredients so it may be better for his stomach. My puppy mill dog has not grown more coat and it is much softer and they bothe have more energy. I hope that all stays this way as I like it when everyone can eat the same thing and not have to swap around.

My German Shepherd has been on this food for several months now and honestly I wished I had switched to it a lot sooner than I did. (My Lab is on the fish formula and I wrote a review on that one separately as I did not rate it as high- 3 stars) In my quest to stop my girl from itching I tried several high quality brands. Zignature, Victor, Fromm's and Farmina. Salmon, Kangaroo, Duck, Codfish I tried several formulas. Unfortunately she would maybe itch less on some formulas than others and some she would just refuse to eat or leave a bowl half full. I've discarded half full bags, it was frustrating and a waste of money. After reading about how over cooked and nutrient deficient kibble is no matter how expensive and considering going to home cooked or raw feeding I decided to try Honest Kitchen. The beef with grains formula is what I chose and after a week or so on the diet her itching was gone! She also scarfs this food down which is a new problem I am working on. With kibble she at slowly and stopped several times. I realize now that she was unhappy but hungry. For my 55lb girl I use 3/4 cup both morning and night and mix in 1 to 1 1/4 cup of warm water. The food absorbs the water completely, I would liken the texture to a paste. A 10lb box last just at a month and its cost is right at what I was paying before for kibble. With its high quality human grade ingredients it's a winner for me and I am glad I found it.

Perspective is important when buying this product. This 10 lb box makes aprox. 40 lbs of food. A 40 lb bag of top quality dry dog food is going to cost you, at LEAST, about $80. This box retails for a whole lot more than $65 buck. It's worth every cent. It smells like from turkey once it is moistened. The dogs love it. When changing them over from another brand or product, there isn't as much digestion issue as there would be with other foods. Mainly because this is human grade and doesn't upset their stomaches. I recently rescued a 13 year old crested/chihuahua (maybe crested/terrier) mix. He was having a really bad allergic reaction to the food the shelter had him on. Itchy all over, inflamed ears, hacking,....just general discomfort. I didn't even try to mix the two foods. I put him on this, and within 2 days he started to heal. My 6 year old LOVES it and she has always been on the very best foods. Acana and Orijen being the two primary kibbles. Overall, this food is a 10 for 10 in my book. The dogs have very healthy bowel movements, good energy, consistent healthy weight (my 6 year old was a little overweight with the kibbles), very shiny coats, and above all else, they LOVE the taste.

I'm very excited to have found this food. It just arrived today and I mixed up dinner for my two golden retrievers and one similarly sized mixed breed. I have fed many natural foods over the last 17 years of owning dogs and even fed a raw diet to my first two dogs before I ever had any children. Feeding a raw fresh prepared diet was not only time-consuming with children but also the fear of salmonella was enough for me to veer away from raw food and switch to commercially prepared foods for the past decade. Tonight my dogs all eagerly gobbled up every drop of this new food. I intend to keep using it to supplement with their current dry food since feeding this to three dogs that are between 60 and 82 pounds exclusively Would be a very large financial burden. Impressed so far and already have monthly subscribe and save set up for this.

My two dogs love it! For a long time, I made my dogs' food, but it got to be too time consuming for my schedule and life. I wanted a comparable, healthy, and affordable alternative for my dogs, as commercial dog food is generally junk. This is a great option for us, and it only takes a minute to prepare for them. Just add water, get a whisk and stir it up, and serve. When I get out the tub of food, my dogs come running. If I get sidetracked in the kitchen, my girl will let me know that I am taking too long with her food and she barks at me to hurry up! They lick their bowls completely clean, so much so that I have to take them away after they finish because they will keep going! I love that I can get it through Subscribe and Save, it makes it more affordable. My 2 dogs are both around 40 lbs, and we go through 2 of these 10 lb. boxes per month. About every 3 months, I order 3 boxes for overage, to make sure I don't run out. I also throw in some vegetables periodically, or a tsp of coconut oil. Digestively, Honest Kitchen is great for them, and they are very regular. :) They like both the chicken and turkey, and switching back and forth is no problem for them. I definitely recommend this brand if you are looking for a high-quality, easy to prepare dog food!

Where do I even begin with this Dog Food. My only complaint is that I did not find and use it sooner. I was feeding my dog Blue as I thought I was doing the best I could for my dog. While she did OK at first she started spitting it out all over the floor. She also would not eat until her stomach would growl, so I know she didn't enjoy her food. I tried other flavors but it was all the same. Then one day I purchased a bag that was missing all Life Source bits , the stuff they claim holds all the extra vitamins and power. The company told me the bits are no different than the rest of the food. Meaning they don't do anything extra as their commercials boast, I was safe to just feed her the bag with out them. I was done with processed dog food. I did a lot of research, even looked at the "freash" Bologna looking food in the refrigerated section and was not at all pleased. When I found this company everything was different. Their website is packed full of every bit of information you could ask for. I did some research about their claims and found no issues. Also, the fact that they had their food certified safe for human consumption mattered. They do not even allow any products on the property that are not safe for humans to eat. I purchased a trial box to check it out. It is just like making Oatmeal and it actually smelled like food. Not dog food. I could also see all of the things they claim to put into their food right there in the bowl. Is it pretty to look at? NO, it's food. It's real food. We are so used to everything being appealing to the eye. You don't need artificial colors or shapes for your dog food. You need good nutrition. So of course I decided to make the move. In fact I didn't even switch over gradually I just gave it to her and removed the kibble for good. She didn't have a single problem and finally...she ate when I gave it to her. No more waiting until late at night or listening to her tummy growl. One of my orders...the bag at the very bottom got a hole in it. You could tell it was done by the seal which probably got caught on something. Still, they wanted my food to be fresh as they made it and had a new box sent out immediately. They even wanted the lot number from the box to keep in case they see anymore issues besides just my own. It's so comforting to know that the food I'm feeding my much loved pup is being made by a company who takes their job serious and stand behind their promises. I worked it out financially and I'm actually spending less than I was before. It's also really, really nice not having to deal with big bags of dog food. The boxes are made to look so nice that I just keep it out on my the counter. This is a move I know I was right to make.

After much research into different types of dog food, I felt discouraged and began to feel I would have to home prepare the food. Then I discovered the Honest Kitchen brand. I priced all the items I would need to make the food myself and found Honest Kitchen's food was cheaper. Now they really had my attention. I began with a few samples from their direct website. My dogs ate it like it was a treat; a reaction I'd only previously received when feeding them salmon or peanut butter. So I shopped around for the best price and landed here on Amazon with the subscribe and save delivery. I have tried two varieties so far, Keen turkey and Verve beef. One of my three dogs became disenchanted with the beef one and stopped eating it, despite my numerous attempts at coaxing her. However, they all love, love, love this turkey one. Winner, winner, turkey dinner. Personally, I also like to add a little salmon oil for their heart and skin health (I use the Grizzly brand). This is more affordable for me than purchasing the seafood Honest Kitchen variety. Now here's how I like to make it. My 40lb dog gets a 1/2 cup (8oz) of food and my two 10lb dogs get 1/8 cup (2Tbsp/2oz). I then squirt in the appropriate amount of salmon oil. For the water, I like it hot, just below boiling. This makes the food form better and also smell better to the dogs, thus becoming more appetizing. The amount of water I put in is 50% more than the dry food, so 3/4 cup (12oz) for the larger dog and 3/8 cup (3Tbsp/3oz) for the little ones. Then I let it sit about 5 minutes to give it time to thicken and also cool down a bit. I test the temperature of the food before feeding it to them always. Meanwhile, while I am doing this, three very eager dogs are driving me crazy. The sheepdog is crying the whole time as if waiting for the food is the worst punishment ever. The chihuahua is jumping up and scratching the back of my legs. The mini dachshund is barking demandingly and sometimes hops in circles. The entire circus act with the three of them is quite ridiculous. When they finally get their food, they go at it like crazy and lick their bowls clean. I guess that's a five star rating from them. It's a five star rating from me too!

I am a 30 yr old w a 3 year old boxer. She has always been on a store bought "organic" diet... first w Blue Buffalo, then their Wild series cause I thought more protein would be good, and then I eventually went and tried Merrick's grain free us made food. Get my drift? She (my dog) has typically been healthy and on a decent diet. Now for the good part.... so I began dating another dog lover. She has a black small to medium sized dog who is a mix must. Some beagles hound lad mix of whatever. She kinda of rescued her dog from her mom who didn't have time for her or money for her.... her dog has some issues. I haven't been in the vet office w them (gf and her dog) at all... but I know the vet always, ALWAYS tries to prescribe medications and monthly shots to the dog. The dog has had health issues for a long time... constantly itching, like always, to the point of annoyance... to the point where she bleeds. Scratching.g or chewing herself raw. Very sad. Also misshapen body do to over feeding and honestly tumors (which I think we're checked and not cancerous, not 100%). Like if you saw her dog, you would get sad... looked like death. Missing hair do to itching and going crazy on herself, smelled, shabby and bleeding etc etc. Yea... tell me about it. They both moved in a while ago... and while at the drugstore getting my dog food I saw Honest Kitchens food. I didn't know about them and I was interested in it. My gfs dog had always had the cheap name brand dog food. All the good ones who see one tv or Wal-Mart for like 15 dollars a big bag. Those awesome brands you know (that's sarcasm btw). So I decided to take a chance and give it a trail run not just for my dog but my gfs dog too. This was a big risk... cause it's a 10lb bag for 2 dogs different sizes and the kicker was at the store it costs $100+ for 1 bag. I bit the bullet and tried it. It was awkward at first.... for me. The prep, the waiting, the will they even eat this soupy oatmeal type junk? I see people write that my dog is picky and won't eat it and etc etc... Honestly... my dogs killed it. KILLED IT. It doesn't sit in the bowl for more than literally 60 seconds.... it's annoying... why? Cause they lick the damn bowl so much that they scout it across the tile floor... yea making that fun sound haha. I've tried most the meat bags now and with the same sounding results. The best part is this... We're about 2 maybe 3 months into using these products. Jasmine hair, skin, and overall temperament is almost night and day. She isn't 100% by any means but her skin is getting better day by day and her hair is growing again. Rarely itches or chews herself anymore. She is more energetic esp around food time. I thought it was just me seeing results.. however when people come over that know about the death dog they also comment on how well she is doing and looking now. Needless to say I think we've turned some people on to the honest kitchen for that reason. My dog even benefits from it as well... more lean, coat is amazing, energy, healthy poops.... Like those dogs could win prizes for those things man. Give it a shot... try these out. It's worth every penny and every pain staking minute of the 5 min prep time wait. You're just lazy ;)... if you care you will take the time and spend the dime. Kudos honest kitchen, kudos.
